Hi everyone,
I am hopping on the juicing bandwagon. I have gone through Cathe threads and it was very helpful and enlightening, since I seriously knew nothing about juicers. Great tips for how to use and which to pick.
I currently have a Vitamix 6300 and LOVE it and recommend it to everyone. I have literally used it a minimum of one time daily when I am home since I bought it.
What got me thinking about juice is that in the past year I have travelled outside of the US extensively and was amazed at all the juicers that were everywhere (hotels, restaurants, street corner) where you would get your veggies/fruit and just juice a fresh glass. It was so yummy. I also have been reading about Gerson Therapy and Detox and am reading the wonderful and yummy benefits of juicing.
I know my daily Vitamix gives me wonderful nutrients, but from what I read, you can intake more nutrients/enzymes from juice because you get rid of all the pulp/fiber in a juicer and therefore are able to drink more in a day - is this correct? I would still have a smoothie or fresh food for my fiber intake.
I would also like to make juice for my Vitamix smoothies - sometimes I just don't want to use water or almond milk.
I am really leaning towards the Norwalk 280. Pricey, but I do not mind spending the money on something I would hopefully use on a regular basis. Please give me any pro/con input on my reasoning for leaning towards the Norwalk:
*I read it gives you more YIELD than other juicers
*I read you can juice and save the juice for several days versus other juicers you must use right away (is this true - I am going to be juicing for one and rather than do it daily, I prefer to juice a couple gallons for several days)
*I read a great warranty versus others have some negative feedback on lack of customer support
*I read it isn't more cumbersome to clean versus others.
*I did read it is a dual method and takes a bit extra time (chop and press)
*I did read it was heavy - so once I place it somewhere, it is staying
*ALSO, CAN YOU ONLY BUY THIS THROUGH THE MANUFACTURER?
Other random questions:
*Where do you get recipes? Can I just make ones up as I go? Currently in my vitamix, I just blend whatever I have available (I buy a co-op basket every week and therefore never know what produce comes in the basket until I receive it). I have an idea of what produce taste-matches what other produce. I usually make winners, but a couple of times have had to put it all back in the blender and add an apple, pineapple, whatever to mask the not-so-great concoction I created.
*Where do you buy the voluminous amounts of produce you need to use to juice a respectable amount of liquid? For my vitamix, I know whatever I put in the blender, that is the volume of yield I will reap. I read that juicing creates much less yield due to all the solids being extracted. I really am interested in drinking 1-2 quarts per day and therefor making a few gallons each time I juice (and store the rest). I am guessing I will need tons of produce.
*do you have to peel the produce of stuff like pineapple, beets, banana? In the vitamix, if I don't want to drink it, I peel it - so mainly those "hard" peels I chop off.
*Can you freeze the juice once it is made?
And any other tips on using it, cleaning it, making it easier to use and less cumbersome (someone on here mentioned to Clean it before you drink it - great idea, I do that with my vitamix and it ensures it gets cleaned).
Thanks for any tips, links, ideas, feedback.
