Question for those who have had bursitis...

According to two docs I have bursitis in my right shoulder. It is soooo painful! I'm not a big medicine taker, but have been trying motrin for the inflamation (Vicodin is the only thing that helps the pain!), icing, now I'm going to try an anti-inflammatory diet recommended by my chiro. Just wondering how long it took others to recover from this? I was hoping to start STS again in November but that hardly seems possible at this point.

I will suffer from bursitis in my hips nearly every winter. It varies in pain on how cold and wet the winter will be. MSM suppliment helps quite a bit. It takes a couple of weeks for it to start to work so be patient. The only thing that will make my bursitis go away is when spring arrives.

Thanks! What's MSM? I've had bursitis in my hip once and it was annoying but not excruiating like this! Dealing w/ my youngest (16 months) isn't helping. Sorry to hear you have a long winter ahead of dealing w/ this.

I had bursitis in my shoulder a whole ago and I know it was stress related. My SIL also had it and the doctor said the same--stress. My SIL is a doctor and at first was doubtful but the diagnosis turned out to be correct. I took anti-inflammatories but also made a conscious effort to relax my shoulder. I am not saying that is the case for you but it definitely was for us. A friend pointed out to me that I was holding my shoulder up around my ear and I was not even conscious of it. Hope you feel better.

Phyllis - I'm interested you said yours was stress related. I'd actually been to my chiro the day before because I'd noticed all down the side of my neck into my shoulder was tender - like from tension. The next day I did bootcamp, and by the end of the day couldn't lift my son. Do you remember how long it took to get back to normal?

It took a while to get back to normal but it did involve me making a conscious effort to relax that shoulder. I had to pay attention to how I was "holding" my shoulder and would find that I had it lifted up towards my ear. My SIL who was doubtful of her doctor's diagnosis of stress had to answer his question of whether she was experiencing stress in her life and the answer was yes--divorce. The more I learned to relax my shoulder the more it improved. Good luck!
