Question for spinners

For those of you who do spinning...I'm interested in trying it. I want to know how good of a workout it gives you? What results you have gotten, and if you own a spinning bike- what brand do you have and how do you like it? Any information on this subject would be most helpfull! Thanks

It's an excellent no impact cardio and leg work out! It can be SUPER tough but you have to take it at your own pace. It's easy to underestimate it and over-do it your first time out. I say to definately go for it!}(

During spring, summer and late fall, I ride outside, but during the winter I have a bike on a trainer in my basement and I do Spinervals workouts and they are TOUGH! We also have a CompuTrainer that hooks up to a computer so I can see my wattage, cadence, etc. and I can program it for various rides (ones that really take place so the hills and everything are the same) and I watch TV. :)

I used to run but can't anymore b/c 20 years of running and doing a marathon left it's mark on my body in the form of bursitis in my hip and very tender ankles. Cycling/spinning is an EXCELLENT no impact sport. And like Wendy said - don't underestimate it. My heart rate is much higher cycling than it ever was running. I'd have never believed that until I experienced it.

I don't have a spin bike at home but I take classes at the gym 1-2 a week and I second that it is an awesome workout! You can do all kinds of courses, including hills, cadence checks, sprints, interval work, all terrain, etc. It really builds stamina, endurance, strength. Of course, I would still mix this up with other forms of cardio for optimal results. HTH!

It's a stationary bike riding class that utilizes a different type of bike. The bike is built for speed as well as resistance and it allows you to take different stances during your ride like stanging up. It's supposed to mimic racing/riding outdoors.

HTH!

I LOVE spinning! I started this in the spring when my joints were complaining from too many step workouts. I take a 70-minute interval class at the gym a couple times a week, and feel as good when I'm done as I do after an Imax. I had a couple different instructors and found that good music makes all the difference. I think if I were going to have a bike at home, I'd check out Cardio Coach or I-Train.
