Question for runners or quote specialists

Last night I picked up my race packet for a race I am doing tomorrow morning. Super cute shirt with the Nike logo but I don't understand the quote. Help me out here:
"23 is when I learned that running like a girl wasn't necessarily bad."

The 23 is super big and covers most of the front of the shirt. Why 23?? I'm not 23, haven't been for 10 years. Wasn't running when I was 23, even if I were, they woldn't know all this to put it on my shirt.

My best guess is it's Michael Jordan's # but I know that isn't it!

Where did the 23 come from???

My best guess is that it's a quote from a Nike-sponsored female runner. I couldn't find anything on the Nike site nor when I did a search on Google.

We couldn't either and I am guessing it has to be linked to a famous female runner...maybe she was wearing the #23 when she broke a record. I am thinking Deana Keaton (I think that is her name), she just kicked ass in London, I believe...

I think it means that it took getting a bit older to appreciate the benefits of running outside of just doing it for exercise.

It is kinda stupid though. Maybe everyone will think you are 23.;-)

Isn't 23 the normal age for people a year out of college? I think I was about that age myself when I took up running and found how mind-helping it can be...

...off to check out nike.com to see if we can figure this out... ;-)

Don't think Joan Benoit's age is the answer. Born in '57, won Boston (first time) in '79....... I dunno what the answer is.

I have an e-mail into one of my coaches. She doesn't know but now I have it bugging her, too! She's going to ask a mutual friend who was a race staff volunteer!

I'll let ya'll know when I find out!!

Oh, I like what someone said about appreciating running at the older age of 23!!:7 :7 :7 If 23 is "older" then man, I'm an antique!!

You've had me thinking about this for a while now! I can't figure it out, either. At first, I thought the '23' meant mile 23 of a marathon, but I don't think that's it. I'm curious to see what it really means!

Okay Sarah! You have GOT to find out the answer to this one because otherwise it will drive me crazy!! Why 23?

The '23' is supposed to be the age! I asked everyone...I even went up to strangers at the actual race and asked if they knew. No one **got it**. I do know for sure it refers to the age because we asked the people in charge of the shirts! I love the quote but the random # of 23 is silly! A good chunk of the women wearing the shirt are not even 23 years old yet!! When I was 23, I wasn't running like a girl! I had a beer in one hand and a Marlboro in the other!!

I like the guys shirts a lot. They said "485 is my heart rate when running up Handysyde....but I'm fine. Really, I'm o.k.".

Handysyde is the street that had the long, pretty steep hill that was part of the race course. Actually, a racer way ahead of me did not handle that hill very well...I almost stepped in his breakfast!!!
