Question for Debra on Stott videos

Hi Debra--

In a thread somewhere, you were saying lots of good things about Moira Stott's Intermediate Matwork tape. Have you tried the Advanced as well? I'm thinking about purchasing one or the other, and I don't want to get the intermediate one if it's something that I'll outgrow quickly. (Gotta save some $$$ for Cathe's new stuff!)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. :)

Gosh no

The intermediate tape is going to keep me busy for awhile. I can execute the moves but mastering all of them is another matter. Without knowing where you are Pilates wise, I can't say if the advanced tape is for you. One of the yoga/Pilates mamas from my mat class is finding it a real stretch even after a lot of private sessions on the Reformer. I think the advanced description is appropriate.

Debra,
I have stotts tapes too.(matt, reformer, cadillac, strechband, and magic circle)
They are excellent.
Have you done any matt work in a class setting?

If you have not.....
I would say...
You have to have the strength and form to get your benefits from Pilates...and it probably takes some correction to really do what you are supposed to be doing.

You have to be "honest" in aquiring strenght and form.

If you have anyway to get a private lesson or two and or a class to make sure you are really doing the form ...then you might get the advanced tapes.

I would say the advanced tapes are only a smidge more challenging than my ongoing matt class......which is open to all levels.

I saw stotts tapes at borders and Barnes and noble...... cheaper than i got them from canada...

karen voight has a nice set of pilates based tapes out...too
but Stotts is where to go if Pilates is your thing.

have fun.

Thanks, I have been doing group mat classes on a regular basis since Labor Day. Unfortunately the instructors had to back off the difficulty level because of beginners so I'm switching to videos for my mat work. My Christmas gift from DH was 3 private sessions on the Reformer which I just completed. I've got some things to work on! The instructor recommended the intermediate tape & I really do think it will keep me challenged for awhile.

I really like Karen Voight but I don't like her Pilates tapes. She doesn't really integrate the breathing & some of her movements are rushed. I see them as Pilates/yoga inspired but not Pilates. Much prefer The Method or Stott.

with that behind you i think the advanced would be fine.

you know what to watch...and if something is too challenging you know how to work up to it.

i hate getting a tape and outgrowing it in one sitting~!!

do you have a performer?
I have a reformer and its such a fantastic piece of equiptment.
