Question for advanced exercisers

Do any of you "add on" to what's in any rotation or what other's advocate. Meaning: Sometimes I feel that my body doesn't respond as strongly to only doing the exercises in the rotation recommendations. That is, if back, chest, shoulder, tris, bis are suggested for one day during the week, I don't have the body sensations unless I add in extra sets. For example, if one day the rotation calls for only chest or only back, or only shoulders, etc. I don't get the results unless I add in extra sets or exercises for that particular body part. Anyone else out there???

Hi Laura, . . .yeah, . . I hate to admit it, . . .because sometimes I feel like I would be diagnoised a fitness addict. I'm sorta competitive, . . so when my little brother who is really fit calls to tell me he ran 6 miles I have to run 8 just to out do him. I also truly believe in the theory that the body doesn't know numbers I just go till it hurts, burns, or is shaking and pump out 5 more.

Hi Laura,
I totally do that.. Im currently making my own routines.. but when I do (or have in the past) followed one of Cathe's workouts.. I tweak it to my liking, depending on the goals Im aiming for at the time.
Ive done some of her workouts (for whatever split) TWICE.. Ive also increased the weights and incorporated rest pause (if needed) and paused it for longer rests (all the time!)
Sometimes Ive been known to do TWO videos and other times Ive just added a couple more sets of something on the end..

Yep, I'm in agreement with you on this.

I belong to a gym now so its not so much of an issue. But when I was doing home workouts exclusively, I totally added extra exercises to my workout.

However, I mostly train one bodypart/day so alot of times getting to that spot where you know you've completely exhausted that muscle would take longer than what I do in my video.

One rotation that I liked for the one bodypart/day regimen was to do 1 bodypart from S & H and then the same bodypart from the CTX series right afterwards. ( I did this only for upper body) ... it was nice because you'd get serious muscle building AND endurance work all in the same day. While it was tough, I can tell you that bodypart was completely spent.

I do that all the time. Lately I've been doing lots of crossfit workouts and I always add more reps or different exercises to the mix. I did a running one recently at the track and added bleachers runs. It seemed to be a good choice at the time but it nearly killed me.

You all are great!

You gals are great. I was actually feeling a little guilty about it. But now that I know that I'm not the only one, I don't feel so bad about it. I'm hoping that STS challenges me as much as when I add in the extra sets when I do Cathe. Yesterday, after an hour of cardio, I did an hour of just triceps and core with Cathe by mixing up all of the tricep exercises from Hardcore extreme and The Terminator. Two days ago, I did just an hour of chest and core at the gym. I know enough on how to target exercises to hit the muscles in different ways and different angles. So, if I don't hit it with the intesity or multiple angle that I want, I'll do more with Cathe.

Please don't get me wrong. I LOVE Cathe so I'm not "dissin" her in any way. ;)

I'd love to hear from others.
