question about pet insurance

Hi, my company is now offering pet insurance through VPI, both a standard and an enhanced plan. I am trying to figure out if it's worth it and finding it tough to be sure. What I'd like coverage for is really serious things, like a rattlesnake bite or my dog getting a foxtail up her nose. I don't think it's probably worth it for things like routine exams or heartworm medication or whatever. Has anyone tried this and found that what you get in the way of benefits really makes a big difference in terms of what you'd have to pay out in a big emergency situation? I can provide more specifics if that would help someone answer my question, but I was hoping to just get general opinions from folks on whether this is worthwhile. Thanks! Kristen

I can not answer the question without reading what the policy offers. I know the plans offered here are worth the cost, animial surgery is a fortune. You can scan in what you have & email it to me & I will be happy of give you my opinion.

Hi Kristen,

Because of the high cost of medical care for pets with serious illnesses or injuries, I personally think that insurance is worth it. I checked out the VPI plans online, and, if I were choosing, I would go for the VPI Superior Plan. The coverage looks very similar to what I have with a different company. The coverage on the VPI basic plan is pretty minimal and probably would not be all that helpful to you in the event of a major health problem. The vaccination plan is probably overkill. You would have to compare what your vet charges for the various vaccinations and treatments listed with the $99 additional coverage and determine whether it is worth the paperwork involved.

You might also want to check out the FAQ section on the VPI website for additional information that might apply to you.
