Question about Karen Voight workouts

Cathlete
I got Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout a few months back mainly for the leg floor work, which I like a lot.

Are there any KV workouts (cardio/circuit) that you can recommend? I'm looking for something that's not too hard on my knees. Are her DVD's worth the money?

Thanks.

Pinky

I personally like Karen Voight. Cardio/Circuit is pretty good if you ask me! But the intensity is no where near Cathe.

Yes, I agree...KV workouts are not that strenuous and would be best used for lighter days when you are not up to par or for a beginner exerciser. Her form pointers are usually pretty good but the workouts themselves are not challenging. I have only tried a couple of her videos that I checked out at the library. Her pilates workout left me feeling like I hadn't worked any muscles at all.

I would definitely try to rent or borrow her workouts before you spend money on them.

Hey Pinky,

I think both of Karen's circuit workouts would fit the bill for 'easy on the joints'. They are also just 'easy' in general. Not too much of a cardio challenge and the weight segments are so so. I personally like Cardio Strength better than Burn and Firm. The step aerobics are easy to follow and get the heart rate up decently. Also, there isn't much impact so that's nice. The weight segments are a little odd. The first one is 'heavy' weights and Karen uses 10's. While that weight is fine for some exercises, it is too heavy at other times and going down would be best, but she just keeps right on going! The second one is 'light' weights and sometimes the weights are too light but you don't have time to change them out because Karen just keeps on going. The abs segment is pretty good. Burn and Firm doesn't have step, just hi/lo segments. The lower body work uses no weight at all and is a series of standing leg raises, etc. I wouldn't buy them from places like Collage as they aren't worth that much money. You can get them both at www.dvdpacific.com. The Ultimate Cardio Circuit DVD has both CardioStrength and BLT (Butt Legs and Tummy, a short stability ball workout) on one DVD for around $9. Burn and Firm is available for about $6.50.

HTH,

Thanks for your descriptions, suggestions and advice.:) Sabine, thanks for the link. Definitely something worth checking out.

Hi Pinky,

I have her energy sprint workout and I really like it. It starts out with a warm up and then some standing leg work. After that it is on to interval step aerobics (not the intensity of cathe) that seem to go on for a long time (she just never stops) and finally to upper body wt work, an intense ab routine and final cool down and stretch. I would recommend this workout-can't remember exactly how long it is but is longer than an hour.

Hi,

I have the following 2 tapes of hers, Firm arms & abs and lean legs & buns & if anybody wants them you can have them, just pay for the shipping. They are just collecting dust. If anybody else has any other suggestion what to do with them, please email me at [email protected]

PiA...I have donated my unwanted/unused videos to my local library. Just drop them off in the drop box with a note that they are being donated...I will rubberband them together if there's more than one. I also do this with my kids movies as they outgrown them, get bored with them. At least they are going to a good cause where other people can use them and enjoy them.

I donated all of my pg workout tapes after our last baby was born and I just pop them in the night drop box. Well, a few weeks later I was in town and I overheard two ladies talking about how the library had gotten a 'new' bunch of pg workout tapes and they were very excited about that...made me feel good about giving them to the library.:)

Library's are also glad to take your unwanted hardcover books. If they already have copies they can always sell them in fundraisers. Some library's will also take paperbacks but you need to call ahead first and find out if your local library wants paperbacks...not all of them will take them and then they just have to throw them out.

I'd also recommend Energy Sprint. The intervals can be intense if you use a good ROM, but the moves are quite linear and easier on the knees, IMO, than torquier moves with lots of twists and turns.

Energy sprint really is a good workout and i think, one of the first interval workouts of its kind??? The set is dull and Karen is not very chatty and likeable in this, bye hey, its the workout right. Her most intense workout (aerobic) is Power Packed Workout. It took me ages to get the momements down, but when i did...it was absolutly fab!!! Plus, Karen actually laughs and has a good time, who knew...

Thank you all for recommending Energy Sprint. I'll check it out on e-bay.

W x, thanks for your critique. For some reason, it made me smile.:)
