Question About CTX Series

KJT

Cathlete
Just found out I am pregnant! This is very new and I am not even 4 weeks...anyway, I need to find out if it safe for me to continue with my CTX series rotation. I know that during pregnancy, our bodies release a hormone that causes joints to relax, but at what point does this happen? When should I be eliminating impact and plyos? Now? In a few weeks? I did order the James Clapp book, but until I get it, could someone give me some advice on this? Thanks, I greatly appreciate it!

Hi and Congratulations! Your focus right now should be to maintain your current level of fitness. In the first trimester it is especially important that you do not over exert yourself during your workouts. Try to stay at around the 70% range of your training zone. NEVER PUSH THE ENVELOPE or go for the gold. Hi intensity workouts should be avoided if they can not be modified to be of lower intensity. Interval workouts should be avoided all together. If you find that the CTX series puts you in the high end of your training zone, then modify it so that it doesn't. If you can't, then switch to another workout that you can do at a moderate level of intensity. As for weight training, stay with medium to light weight for now.

Plyo moves and/or high impact movements will probably spike your heart rate so I would always modify these moves.

Relaxin effects everyones joints in different ways. Some people do not seem to notice its effects at all, while some do very early on, and some at later stages. But in any case, you should always be especially cautious of all of your movements. Monitor and modify your moves on a day to day basis. James Clapp book will answer many of your questions. You may even enjoy another book, Expecting Fitness, by Birgitta Gallo. It is very direct and clearly written. Chapter Four of this book will explain exercise modifications to you as well.

Please feel free to continue to ask questions as your pregnacy progresses. The main thing right now is to stay very, very hydrated during your workouts, always workout at a safe and moderate level of intensity, take a folic acid supplement, and listen to your body!

Good Luck :)!

Thanks for the response. I think that I will change my routine to walking on the treadmill and some lower impact routines along with lighter weight works. I am one of those people that if I'm feeling good, I go all out in my workouts so maybe it would just be best for me to take a break from the CTX series (at least the aerobics portions!). This will work for me as I have just completed an 8 week rotation of the CTX series and was going to go 3 more weeks on it until Christmas--but, now I think I will change my routine. Thanks, I greatly appreciate your time in responding to my questions as I was concerned....
