"Puzzle" Mats

For any of you who have the puzzle type mats in your workout rooms - how do you keep them from sliding all over the place? In an effort to make my joints happier, I got some in addition to my new Ryka Enlight II shoes (LOVE them!). I got two sets of the mats at Sam's Club (I actually need one more) and they move all over the place. I was thinking about trying those rubber things you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe's that go underneath rugs to keep them in place.

Thanks!

Susan

Hi Susan,

I use mine in my family room which has a flat sisal rug and I've noticed only minimal sliding. A carpet gripper might do the trick but if possible you might want to extend your puzzle mats all the way to your walls so that they cover the entire floor. That should eliminate any shifting. HTH

I have 2 pieces connected to the side and have my weight rack om them.
They don't move. Or put some weights lined up on an end.

Mine are put down in my workout room wall to wall. They don't move at all. I have two layers of them and they work great.

See my photos for how they are installed! :)

JeanneMarie,

Your workout room is so pretty. Since mine is in an unfinished basement, I don't have the option of going wall to wall with it. It is framed, so side to side I could do it, but the room is very long so I'd have to have hundreds of them. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I might try carpet grippers AND weights and see what happens.

RE:

I have something like 40 of them connected in my workout room & when I do kick boxing, they STILL slide all over. That rubber thing just might be the ticket.

RE:

Jeanne Marie, you have the workout room of my dreams! I will have a room like that some day!

:)

I even printed pictures of it.

I also bought the puzzle mats from Sam's for the same reason but they slid around too much and I ended up just sticking them in my closetx(

I had them on carpet with one side against a wall and used heavy barbell weights on the corners and they still moved. I didn't try the rubber mats that go under rugs so maybe that will work. Good luck!

I was doing good when the mats were new and hadn't been connected and pulled apart 6 days a week for several months. Now, they aren't fitting as well together, so it's become a bit more difficult!

Sunday I was doing stretch max and had my legs spread far apart and my head on the floor and the *&^%$^! mats pulled apart!! And I fell onto my butt, but my butt padding wasn't all there since my legs were in that position. Ouch!!! But just for that minute- no pain since!!

Which is all to say, be careful!! :)

RE:

Yeeeouch! Do be careful. About six months ago I was doing some sort of weight workout (can't remember now and it was my pre-Cathe days) and decided to step up on my Club Step for something and DH had moved it out of the way for some reason or another but did not put it back firmly on the risers (although it looked like it to me and I didn't even think that it wouldn't be on there good). I stepped on it with dumbells in my hands and the dang thing flipped up and I fell flat on my face, arms outstreched still holding the weights. OUCH! I felt like SUCH a dork!

RE:

Susan,
Buy a cheap rug (like an 8x10) and put it over the top of the puzzle mats. It will add additional cushioning and your mats won't slip!

RE:

Hi Susan,

I also workout in my partly finished basement. I put my puzzle mats over indoor/outdoor carpet and they don't slip. After years of working out on the cement floor my legs had started bothering me and the puzzlemats were a lifesaver.

Good Luck,

Diana
