Push-Up Equip. Advice?

Good morning, all! I'd like to ask some advice of the Cathe Crowd . . .

I notice in some of Cathe's push-up segments that she uses push-up handles, and I think I've read that this decreases the strain on the wrists. Are push-up handles a good idea for safety as well as improved performance?

I normally do my push-ups with my toes on a 6-inch platform, and have stalled out in terms of the number I can do the in first blast to failure. It's totally bumming me out, especially when Cathe said she hit 84 straight a little while ago.

Any input on push-up handles, as well as how to increase # of push-ups?

Thanks!

Annette

I have wrist problems and my modified push-up handle bars are a godsend in terms of form. I have hexagonal dumbells (because they don't roll like the non-hexagonal dumbells)which make a great substitute for pushup handlebars.

I tried to do the push-ups using bar bells however I found they put more pressure on my wrists. I do better without them trying to balance the weight on my fingers and hands....using techniques I have used in yoga.
