Purpose of bumping?

I'm confused. Could someone explaining the purpose of bumping. I notice people post bumps on the Ask Cathe forum. What does that mean.?

They do this so that the post won't go on to the next page and get "lost" before Cathe has a chance to see it.

HTH. :)

The more the messages that are posted....one particular post can crawl further down the page...and then ultimately gets scooted to the next page. So....the purpose of bumping is that it throws up back up onto the front page again so that Cathe can see the message. I "bumps" it back at the top of the page. Does that make since.....?

I've noticed some excessive bumping on "Ask Cathe" lately (there are some forums that don't allow bumping, and that's not such a bad idea--I mean, if you can't even write a comment like "I'd like to know your answer to this as well" instead of just "bump" or in addition to "bump" leave it be.)

I don't understand why some people feel the need to bump a post 2 hours after it was posted..then again the next day...and later the next day? If Cathe has been on the forum, she's seen the message and has perhaps chosen not to answer.

I guess for some people "Cathe cannot answer every question" is not acceptable!!;)
