Puppy Rescue - Transportation Help!!

GraceNote

Cathlete
Hi!

LauraMax has the dog in NJ. I'm in Harrisburg. We need to get the puppy from point A to point B, hopefully tomorrow.

As of this morning, I was planning to drive to NJ tomorrow and all was well - Laura's going to call me later to figure out a time. HOWEVER - as of an hour ago, we have a potential snag.

DH is out of town, and was planning to get back tomorrow morning. He called at lunchtime and said that his flight might get changed, so now his return time is up in the air. I have 4 little ones, and one's in school, so someone has to be here when the bus leaves and when it gets back.

I don't know that I can get to NJ and back in the time that I have...

Can anyone help? I'm thinking I could get to Allentown or thereabouts, but would have to be back here by 3:00.

Laura - if you're reading this, don't worry! I know we can work something out!

<Praying for a solution!>

I'm in the Allentown area, just 20 miles or so East of there. But I can't help tomorrow.

Where, in NJ, are we talking??? MY SO works in Jersey, in Somerville, I believe. Maybe there's a way HE can get the dog, bring him to me, and Grace, you and I can meet up to make the swap???

I can't help during the day this week because I took off last Friday and this Monday and they'll shoot me if I take another day! lol This week, in general, is bad even after school.

What about the weekend??? Can I help on Saturday? The kids and I can head out early on Saturday if needed.

I SO WANT TO HELP! LEt me know what I can do!

Gayle

I wish I could help!!!! I'm too far away.:(
I'm so happy for you!!!
I was thinking if you can't find someone on this forum, maybe you could call your local stray rescue to see if they can provide some sort of transport advice or help. I know many rescue groups have transport volunteers all over.

No, we have a HUGE snag. The baby was adopted last night. :( I'm so so sorry KC, I just found out & was about to call you. It's kind of good news I suppose, but I felt so good about him having a home w/you, & now I don't even know who adopted him. :(:(:(:(:(

OMG! THAT, I didn't expect! At least he's being taken, but I feel badly about Grace.

Grace!!! HUGS!

<sigh> Me too. While I wasn't really expecting it I can't say I'm terribly surprised--he is an adorable little thing & very adoptable.

I'm so sorry Grace. I hope you & your girls can forgive me!

well, grace is a smart mom by telling her kids that they might be getting a new puppy.....i am sorry, grace, that he was adopted by someone else....but i guess the ultimate goal was for him to have a home.....

i think both grace and lauramax did a fantastic job in stepping up to take care of and make sure this little one had a home.

Holy cow! This is like a bittersweet plot line on a soap opera. But, you know, your local shelter is always FULL of wonderful four-legged friends who desperately need to be saved and would love to get out of their tight little cages go home with you... be part of YOUR family. They're just waiting for you to come rescue them. So how about it?

I'm just back up and running with my new ISP, but I'd talked to Laura earlier. Yes, it's great that he has a home, but kind of sad because I was already thinking about how cute he was :(.

The girls will be fine. I'd told them originally that sometimes there are a lot of people who want the same dog and you have to get picked to be the one (they've been in similar drawings at school/daycare to be the daily helper and things like that, so they can relate to it on that level). I told them today that another person got picked, and, while it was disappointing, it was still good for the puppy because he has a home tonight. A round of popsicles and they're all fine :D Ahhh, the healing properties of frozen desserts!

DH had said up front that if anything fell through with this dog, his agreement did NOT give me permission to 'find' a substitute. (<haha> He knows how I think!) However, when he heard the news, he changed his mind :D Seems like he, too, was already thinking about this one and got his heart involved! So, we're not rushing out tomorrow, or anything, but I am going to check pet finders and the local shelter for potential.

I guess, from that perspective, this is still a success story - the original dog has a home, and we're going to rescue another one, so that's a '2-fer' in the bigger picture :)

Oh! And the other great part is that I got to know Laura a little better and am totally excited that we may be able to meet up one day soon!! :D That's the best ending of all!!

Thanks to all you ladies for your support, encouragement and help - we are an AMAZING force when we all pull together, aren't we?! Hugs to all!

GraceNote, what a positive attitude you have that you no doubt are passing on to your kids! And LOL at the healing properties of frozen dessert!! I must admit to using this "band-aid" a time or 2 myself!

What a lucky pup to be adopted by your family!
