A number of people on this forum seemed to have lost the companionship of furry loved ones of late. I have been there, and it is tough.
So as a reminder of how beautiful our relationships with our animal companions are, I thought I would share a couple of links that I think really tell us a lot about what our animal companions mean to us, and to each other!
One is about a Virginia toddler who was lost in the woods but saved by his two puppies who kept him warm in freezing temperatures overnight:

The other is about a dog in Chile who risked his life in a valiant attempt to save another dog who had been hit by a car on a busy highway (the commentary is in Spanish, but the pictures tell the story):

Taken together, I think they tell us a lot about how how significant our "animal companions" are to us, and how much they "feel" and "think." (Granted, the puppies with the toddler were probably just trying to keep warm themselves. But still!)
Anyway, for what it's worth; our "pets" really are sentient beings, I believe. Hope this brings some cheer to those who are coping with recent losses.
