Pullovers

Hi, all,

Every time I do pullovers with Cathe, I don't feel them in my lats. I feel them in my triceps and shoulders. Can anyone give me some advice to help me work the right area?

Thanks!
Chrissy

Lead the move with your elbow. Imagine you're pushing something with your elbows while holding the weight in your hands. Keep the small of your back against the step or bench. If it comes up, chances are, the weight is too heavy for you.

I also find it helps to consciously think of pushing the shoulder blades down into the step while you are doing the pulling motion. That helps me focus the effort mostly on the back (though the anterior shoulder, triceps and chest will also be involved somewhat). If you are still having difficulty focusing on the back, try doing a set of 1-arm rows or barbell rows immediately before doing the pullovers, to pre-exhaust the back muscles. Often, it's easier to feel them working, then, and easier to put the mind into the right muscle.

Sometimes to make sure that I keep my back flat, I will hold my legs up in the air (either bent or straight) on this and other moves.
