puffiness

Quick question. Sometimes when I'm doing a cardio workout, been stuck on LowMax lately :D my fingers get kinda puffy. I drink water before and during and do try and watch my sodium (had PIH when pregnant so try and keep on top of it). I also sometimes start sweating less towards the end of the workout. Guess I got the bad stuff out.

Hi, Traci:

While I am not Cathe, I just wanted you to know that this also happens to me, especially if it is hot inside too. I also watch my sodium intake and I drink before, during, and after the workout but I still get puffy. I have had this happen all my life. I remember roller-skating when I was 10 and feeling puffy then too.

Puffiness is to be expected during and after the workout for a time. Not only are you drinking a lot of water, but also the circulatory blood has been rerouted from the core out to the extremities, including the fingers, to provide oxygen to the working muscles. After the workout, this circulatory blood slowly gets rerouted and the puffiness goes down.

Thank you everyone. That makes a lot of sense. It does go down in just a bit afterward, about the time I can breathe and walk normally.
