Yes - we all have to have a brag moment so here is mine! Our son (and only child) has committed to Michigan Tech University on a football scholarship! All those years of youth football, giving up basketball to live in the weight room, numerous camps and combines and travel travel travel have paid off for him. He truly worked his ass off and started as a sophomore in high school where he played on both sides of the ball for three years. He was elected a team captain his senior year and they went undefeated in regular season play which is the first time in 15 years. It is 8 hours away from home and in the upper peninsula of Michigan but he loved it on his visit and he will be getting a top notch education. It's the little gem of the Midwest! We will forever be Red/Grey Eagles but now we are Black/Yellow Huskies! Right now he will major in finance but now he is also toying with the idea of engineering. This is also a huge relief to have made the decision among a handful of schools that were inquiring about him. Now to relax and watch the final semester of his Senior year. It has flown...

Congrats to you and your son!!! What an accomplishment!

My little guy is only 7yo but already knee deep in hockey. I know what a commitment sports are to parents as well as kids.

Congratulations, Dawn and son!!! That is just awesome news! You both deserve to be proud, proud, proud!

Happy New Year!
Pam

Go for the engineering, my Dad is an engineer, and he went on later to earn his MBA in finance, so just let him know that he can do both, but its best to start with the engineering, because he will need more math/sciences. Also, let him know that 'Humanities 101' is a killer course and he is better off taking a beginning class in music (which should also cover that requirement, check with his counselors.) Tell him that all the cathletes are very proud of him, and that he is just a wonderful guy!!!

Thanks so much!

My brother said the same thing...get the engineering degree and then finance.

Congratulations to your son, Dawn! It is so nice to hear that his sacrifices and hard work (and yours too, it takes the whole family to support a child athlete, and requires a lot of sacrifice for all of you) paid off!!!!

Michigan Tech is an excellent school and the UP is gorgeous, so I'm sure he'll have a rewarding experience there on and off of the field. I'm not from that area, but I lived in Ann Arbor for a little while and became familiar with the UP when I was there.

All the best to him!

Congrats!
I know how you feel. I'll never forget the first day touring the college campus with my son, I was overflowing with pride.
My son graduated last May with a degree in mechanical engineering w/ a minor in math. He toyed with the idea of chemical engineering, but he chose mechanical like his father.:) He got a job working in his field right after graduation. He LOVES his job and it doesn't hurt that he is making a nice living straight out of college. The time goes by so fast....enjoy every minute of it!!
