Problems with Ebay?

As my first ever purchase on Ebay I bought Intense moves with Gin Miller after reading about how good it was on this forum. It was listed as mint condition and as I opened the package and slipped it out of its sleeve the black piece in back fell off. I am so pissed as I am cautious of ordering even new products online and it figures this would happen to me. I know it was only 12 bucks but still! Do I have any chance of getting a refund of taking some kind of action or should I just throw my hands up and say too bad?

Do you think there is any way I can crazy glue the piece back on and use it? Has anyone ever had a piece break off and they successfully were able to play it?

Ugh! x(

Skye -

I would contact the seller immediately and see if she can help you resolve the issue. If it's not resolved to your satisfaction, I would reflect that in her feedback.

Good luck!

I agree with Angie. Contact the seller. Most sellers are willing to help in these situations. They don't want negative feedback. For the record I have always had great luck with ebay. So this is probably a situation that can be taken care of.

Skye - I assume you are talking about a VHS tape here. It is always possible that the tape was damaged during shipping. If you paid for shipping insurance, you could get a refund from the shipping company. I wouldn't automatically assume that the seller is a liar, but certainly do write to the seller and explain what happened, and send digital photos of the broken video if you can. If the seller shrugs their shoulders and says "too bad", then take the matter up with eBay, and Paypal (if you paid by Paypal).

You should not glue the black plastic piece back onto the tape because that piece needs to be able to flip up and down. If you can glue it back together such that the piece can still flip, then I don't see any reason why you couldn't do that. I am not sure if you could play the tape without the plastic flap in place.

Was it the video?

I would email the seller and let her know. She may do something to rectify the situation. I've bought tons of things from eBay and never had an issue with the seller.

Everyone....thanks so much for the feedback, I will email her and let her know what happened to the video tape and see what can be done. Thankfully it was only 12 dollars including the shipping so worse comes to worse I am not out a whole lot.

As an Ebay seller myself, I also would not assume that it is the seller's fault. I once sold some Xfiles videos, and one of the tapes had somehow become detached from the spindle at the beginning. It had worked the last time I had watched it, so I had no idea something had happened. In that situation, the buyer and I agreed on a partial refund (there were several tapes in the bunch), and I refunded her what we thought it would cost to have a video store put the tape in a new holder (which they can do for around $2 or so).

That's a possible solution: take the tape to your local video store and see if they can fix it and how much it would cost. Then ask for that much in a refund. You get a working tape, the seller has a happy customer and no bad feedback. A win-win situation.

The same thing happened to me-I bought the original taebo tape. When it arrived it was in a plain brown envelope no padding or bubble. It was cracked I emailed and the reply I got was how could it get broken
DUH.I emailed the seller back and told them that if they plan on selling items they may want to package them better(they didn't offer insurance).I never got another email UNTIL I left a bad rating. They wanted to know why I did that-I didn't get what I payed for because of the way it was packaged and why sould I give them a raving review when I had to throw the item away ...... don't think so.and they preceded to tell me they were in process of issuing a refund -yeah right. But that is the only bad experience I have had with any seller.Definatly let them know.I have that one if you want it you can have it free of charge just let me know.

I emailed her earlier today to tell her what happened, I am hoping to get a reply soon. I'll give it a couple days. I will try kathryn's idea of bringing it to get repaired since it may only cost a couple bucks. I have a feeling it got damaged in the shipping but I don't think it was packaged properly. It was in a bubble envelope but it was a snug fit which leaves the corners vulnerable to banging and breaking which is where it happened, this is definitely not enough protection I feel. I routinely mail CD's/disks and fragile items for my job and I package them very securely and safely with more than enough packing. There was no option for insurance that I know of but since I am new to this I could be wrong. I will wait and see what her reply is since I would not want to give her a bad rating if she did indeed send me a mint condition tape, although, it wasn't packaged properly....tough call. UGH! This is one of those weeks where nothing is going right!!!
