preg. test...has anyone had this happen?

I am about 10 days late and decided today to break down and go buy a test. This would be #3, so I've been here before!

Anyway, I got an e.p.t - came home, read the directions, pee'd in a cup rather than doing the urine stream thing, waited three minutes and only had one line appear, with two lines being you're pregnant. BUT after the three-minute time a second line did appear and went from very faint to absolutely there. Of course, being cheap, I didn't buy the kit that had two tests, because I thought either I am or I'm not, but now I don't know!

I'll probably go back to buy another test tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Thanks!:)

Yes, I have seen this happen with pregnancy tests. I'm a NP in a family planning clinic and have read countless tests). Urine pregnancy tests, such as HPTs (Home Pregnancy Tests), should have a timeframe for reading. For example, the tests used at the clinic are read after 5 minutes. Results read after 10 minutes are considered invalid. This is because the second line (positive line) MAY darken over time even in negative tests. So, a test that is negative may develop a faint line as the tests ages. If you tested within the appropriate timeframe, then it sounds like you have a positive pregnancy test.

There are false positives, which can be caused by certain meds, marijuana, LH (the hormone detected with ovulation predictor kits), to name a few causes.

HTH!
