Power Yoga Workout DVDs

Any suggestions for good Power Yoga DVD workouts approximately 45-60 minutes in length, for a beginner-intermediate, similar to Crunch Fitness' Fat Burning Yoga?

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with Crunch Fat Burning Yoga (I have Crunch Joy of Yoga) but last week I picked up two new DVDs: Power Yoga with Kristin McGee (47 min.) and Power Yoga for Athletes (60 min.). At this point, I've only had the opportunity to preview both, but both look challenging to me. See the amazon links below. I've also heard good things said about Rodney Yee and Bryan Kest's power yoga workouts.

Hi,

I've been looking at the Kristen McGee dvd. Can you give a review once you do it?

I just bought Tilak Pyle Altar of the Heart, it was rated very highly on another forum. It looks like it has some interesting variations.

Others that are good;

Yoga for Happiness Eion Finn
Shiva Rae; Yoga Shakti
Brian Kest

Tracy

A good one is Eoinn Finn's Power Yoga for Happiness. It is actually one long workout but programmed into several shorter workouts with different emphasis. For example, there is a 20min "quickie" w/o, magically hips, one geared towards strength etc. Marnie

I sure will. I am sick with a throat infection, so I don't know how much working out I'll be doing this weekend, but I hope to get to it soon.

Just wanted to come back with a review of Kristin McGee's Power Yoga. I did P90X Shoulders & Arms this morning followed by the first 25 minutes of McGee's workout. WOW. (Normally, I wouldn't attempt Power Yoga after a tough u/b workout, but I was really itching to try out some of my new DVDs and missed my yoga workout for the week.)

She starts in mountain pose for several breaths, then gets right into it with 30 min. of challenging sun salutations...The flow is fairly quick-paced, and within the first 9 minutes, I was feelin' it. Yowzas! You can expect a lot of lunges, downward dog, chataranga, upward dog, and forward folds, but she changes things up, so it doesn't feel as repetitive as YogaX does to me. McGee also incorporates Warrior I, II, and III, triangle, and a 30-second chair pose that felt like an eternity. I continued to watch the rest of the workout and noted that, after the 30th minute, she kicks it up a notch with prayer twists, half moon pose, and the move that has eluded me so far - crow. At the 38th minute, it moves into seated stretch (staff pose, pigeon, seated spinal twist, and relaxation.)

When I first previewed the DVD, I thought McGee might drive me nuts with her nonstop Cheshire cat smile (I usually hate when the instructor's smiling away while I'm in pain), but after doing the workout, I must say, she's earned my respect. Her form and cueing are excellent. This is a great pick for those who like straightforward, athletic yoga. When I bought mine on Amazon it was going for under $7. Now when I checked, I noticed it is $10. But bottom line: it's worth it. I see myself using this video often.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies! I've wanted to incorporate power yoga into my weekly routine for a long time, but don't have a selection of good workouts. I currently do Cathe 3x a week, and yoga only once in a great while, when I'm not up to the high impact of Cathe. I really like Crunch's Fat Burning Yoga and Joy of Yoga, but would like longer workouts; Crunch's level in the aforementioned workouts, however, is perfect for me. I do have a Rodney Yee DVD, as well as a Karen Voight one, but don't like their styles as much.

Cathy, your breakdown of Kristin McGee's workout is invaluable. I think I'll give it a try. (The price you paid is much more attractive!)
