Power 90x Report

Hey All:

I've recently finished the first month of P90x and thought I'd give a general report for other noobs. :D

- All in all I like the program and am entirely happy that I purchased it.
- The strength workouts are challenging and interesting and I feel like I am making some gains. In fact, doing the program has made me realize that for some moves I have been lifting way too lightly. When I started I was doing 15# one armed rows and am now doing 22#.
- I've learned to like push-ups!
- The workouts seem to go really quickly.
- Initially I thought there would not be enough cardio in the program to keep my weight down, so I added extra. I've actually cut back on that a bit though, and have not seen any difference at this time.
- I will say that I did not like Ab Ripper X. In fact I have stopped doing it and put Cathe in place. I didn't think the routine was interesting or enjoyable in the least and it killed my neck.
- IMO, 90 minutes of yoga is too much. But then I don't like yoga so 90 seconds is probably too much for me :D
-Tony's surfer dude machismo can be hard to take some times but he's basically harmless.
- I am absolutely starving on this program.

Hmmm, I think that it is for now :)

Hey Sparrow,
I am finishing up my 6th week of P90X. I can totally see my upper body becoming more defined. I have learned to like yoga-more because of the gains I've seen in strength and flexibility because of it. I started my program on a Thursday which puts Yoga X on a Sunday because I knew I would not do 90mins during the workweek. I've not been following the eating plan, just doing my own thing. Although lately I've been BAD!!

Keep us updated with your results!!

I never understood what they were thinking when they made a 90 minute yoga tape. I personally think that most of the people buying these programs haven't had much exposure to it, if any.

I thought it was overkill! The most I will do of it is about 45-60 minutes.

Thanks for the update. I do think the workouts go by fast, except the yoga one.

I am learning to really love the YogaX. I am not doing any P90X rotations right now but I am doing YogaX every Sunday (rest day) as part of my marathon training. I put everything into it, get as low as I can, do push-ups into downward dog, and I am noticing better back strength and over all flexibility. If you can keep trying with this one, it may pay off! Personally, I think 90 minutes of anything is long unless it's a run!! Like I said, though...I think it is really helping me. It may help lengthen the muscles for a stronger, leaner look! Just may!;-)

Thanks for the report, Sparrow! I'm always interested to hear people's perspectives on this (or any) program.

Ab Ripper X is a bit boring, but it's very effective. I think they should have included other ab workouts for the sake of variety. 90 days is a long time to do the exact same ab routine over and over. I'm using it once a week in my current rotation and that's plenty.

I think Yoga X is excellent. 90 minutes IS a long time, though, so when I did the 90-day rotation, I often subbed other yoga DVD's, but when I had the time to do it, it felt wonderful. Since it's so well-chaptered, I often use it now as an add-on to a 30 min cardio session, starting with the balancing postures, going into the seated, but skipping the "yoga belly" section.

The things I like the most about this program are: that you do the amount of reps that are consistent with your goals, the rest/stretch periods between rounds, and the timer at the bottom of the screen. I would love to see Cathe incorporate these three things into a series.

I vastly prefer Cathe's cardio. I never did Cardio X and I think I did Kenpo X once. Plyo X is a good workout but not dancy enough for my taste.

I have just finished up my 3rd week of P90X...All I can say is, where does the time go?? I love all the workouts except Chest & Back, I would have to say that is my least favorite out of them all. The 60 mins goes by so quickly!
I can already see some definition in my upper body. I too also thought their wasn't enough cardio, so I started doing an extra 30 mins. in the morning and doing my regular P90X workout in the evening. Just recently I stopped adding and really can't notice a difference.

Since starting the program, I have noticed that I have lost additional inches/weight off of my hips. I didn't actually measure, but my clothes are fitting alot looser than before.

Surprisingly, Yoga X is growing on me....This week the time flew by and I loved every minute of it....strange, huh?
Ps...I have also starving on this program...!

I (and other P90Xers at VF) ended up calling this "Ab Skipper"! Not because we didn't like it, but because we ended up not doing it often. I think Core Synergistics and Plyometrics, and actually a lot of the workouts engage the core, so Ab Ripper isn't that essential. Though I did like doing it adding a medecine ball, while seated on my rebounder. And after P90X, I was able to do pikes for the first time!

Strangely enough, Yoga X got me to like yoga! I had tried to for so long, and it just didn't click (though now I haven't done it for a while, so maybe need a new boost of motivation). I would sometimes skip the shoulder stand portion of it and make it a bit shorter. Or start to sub some shorter yoga workouts. It (or some other power yoga) does fit in the rotation so well, and really helps with the push-ups, core and extra leg work.

>So I have to ask Kathryn, can you do the crane?
>
>Catherine

LOL! I think I was able to hold the crane for 1 1/2 seconds at one point! I need to use at least one toe to keep my balance.

is it worth getting all of the upper body workouts? so far i have Shoulders and Arms and have ordered Chest and Back.i think i am only interested in getting the upper body dvds and yoga x.
