Postpartum Check-In March 26

Good afternoon ladies! I'm surprised that I am starting us off this week. Melanie is probably creating a post right now.

Last week went really well. As of this morning I have lost all of my prepregnancy weight with Annamarie (22 pounds). However, I still have 10 pounds more to go to be at my old prepregnancy weight with Alexander and then an additional 5 pounds after that to be at the weight I was when DH and I got married almost 9 years ago.

Here are my workouts from this week:

Sunday - ran 3 miles
Monday - Muscle Max LB premix & ab hits premix, can't remember which one
Tuesday - ran 2 miles
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - ran 3 miles
Friday - ran 4 miles
Saturday - PS & S&H Abs & 1 section of Stretch max
Today - I ran 5 miles for the first time ever and also did 1 section of Stretch Max. The run felt really good, but I will probably need to stick with 5 miles for my long run for a little while to build up a little more endurance and speed.

I have a situation that maybe you all can give me advice on. At the end of November DH had a vasectomy. However, he never returned back to the doctor's office to give them a sample to see if he still had any more viable sperm. DOOH! At the end of December I went off my birth control pill because DH told me he should be sterile then and being as he is really intelligent (not so sure now) and he went to the dr. appt alone and received instructions, I thought he must be right. However, this week I am 1 1/2 weeks late with my period, which I am never more than 2-3 days late with unless I am pregnant. I have tried 3 pg tests throughout the week and one this morning, 2 different brands, and all 4 came back negative. My question is, could my increase in workouts this month be causing this? My diet has not changed these past 3 months. It does not matter to me if I am pg or not, I'll be happy either way even though we only planned on 2 kids. I believe God never gives you more than you can handle.
Has anyone else ever been this late and never pg?

Well, I've gotta see what DS is into. I'll check back later.

Hi Kristi...way to go with loosing all your preggo weight!, what a major accomplishment. I read you are training to run a 1/2 marathon. I think that's wonderful. I am also contemplating running a 5k for the first time in my life.

Yes-where is our Melanie:)

I am still following the march 'o6 rotation to the "t". I didn't loose any lbs this week as i decided to increase my calories because i want to drop bf. I did!!, I lost 2% of bf!!!

Kristi- in light of your question. hmmmm, the only times i have ever been late were the two times i have been pg and once when i was on birth control pills. i have always been very regular. I don't think ( i am no expert) that your increased workouts would cause you to not have a period. i know women that go down to an extremely low amount of bodyfat at times do not get a period. maybe this applies to you?? maybe you should contact your dr. for a blood test just to be sure. Which ever plan God has for you and your family i know you will be happy and we will be happy for you:) God Bless.

Hello to all the fellow post-partum mommies to follow.

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

Way to go on losing the 2% bodyfat! That is awesome and not an easy thing to do! The scale is more times than not, not our friend. When in doubt go with bodyfat % and/or body measurements. Way to go on going to run a 5K. You will do great! Any ideas what race you want to do?

I wish I could say that it is because I am low on bodyfat %, but that is not the case. Also my workouts, with the exceptions of my long runs on Sunday are only about 35 mintes in length so I don't think I'm overdoing it. I plan to call the doctor's office tomorrow and speak to a nurse to see what she recommends. I'm sure I will be going there to get a blood test because I have always been pretty regular as well with the exceptions of when I was pregnant both times. I'll let you all know what I find out!

Hi guys! Thanks for starting thread. I"ve been so busy (with my boss out of town), I just needed so time with family, so I haven't been online much. ;)

HOWEVER, I was online long enough to purchase Turbo Jams NEWEST four pack. I MUST BE STOPPED. Will I ever tire of purchasing exercise DVDs? It must be a disease of some sort.

Has anyone checked out Playstation's Kinetic w/eyetoy camera? It's a workout that has different training zones & a camera to track moves & analyze progress. I saw an add in SELF magazine. I might have to borrow my 12 year olds playstation!!! That sounds too fun!

Jadon went through a growing spurt this week. He looks so big to me. :( I"m glad that he's healthy, I"m sad that he's getting big so fast!!!

Kristi, read your post about your dilema. Time will tell if you are in fact pg, I'd just try to relax and ride it out. ;) I don't think you could get my DH to go to office with sperm sample!!! Keep us posted. ;) I"m envious of your running. It's still ways too cold in Minnesota to even think about running! I could begin to think about that jogging stroller though! I'll probably run a couple 5Ks and a 10K this July. We'll see how much Jadon likes the stroller before I commit for a 1/2 marathon. The farthest I've run competitively is a 10K.

This week I worked out 5 days, using Turbo Jam combinations ranging from 40-60 minutes in length. I didn't write anything down. I'll do better this week. :D

Sunny, did you get your jogging stroller? I read the reviews on the one you purchased and it looks great! Great price too!

Hello. Just enough time to check in quickly. Thanks for your sympathy regarding Bear. You're all very sweet. I can tell many of you are probably pet owners.

My week was good. My new plan it to only work out 5 times a week and make each session a little longer. It should be warming up soon, so I hope to start more walking/running. I'll have a challenge with running- I used to run with Bear, who weighed 110 pounds and looked pretty mean. Therefore, I could go anywhere in my urban neighborhood and not worry too much. I still have a dog to run with, but she's only 60 pounds. Kristi, I am also going to work back up to a solid 5 mile run.

Melanie- keep buying those videos; it makes me feel better about buying more myself.

Gus is having some issue with sleeping. He's waking up more frequently and wanting to nurse. In my world, that means: growth spurt, ear infection or he just likes boobs. I'm leaning growth spurt since he's not fussy during the day and is racked out sleeping right now.

Monday Keli ROberts step it strong circuit, plus 10 bootcamp (77 minutes)
Tuesday nothing
Weds SB w/u, 1, 2; Step Max step; 12 minutes yoga ( 80 mins)
Thursday run a t work, about 3 miles
Friday leaner legs
Sat 1 mile swim, 30 minutes elliptical/bike (75 min)
Sunday nothing

I had a blood test today. It came back negative. I'm both happy and disappointed at the same time. Disappointed because another baby would be such a blessing, but happy because it would have been really tight financially for us, but we would have made it work. Also, I've worked so hard to lose what weight I have and I'm working really hard so I can run a half-marathon at the end of August. I hope that doesn't sound too vain. I guess another baby is not in the cards for us, which is what we had planned after DD was born.

Melanie - It has been pretty cold around here too. I've been running solely on the treadmill while watching the first season of Alias, which I have never seen before. The time passes by pretty quickly. However, I'm looking forward to running outside. I bet the transition from treadmill to pavement will take some getting used to, especially when I start running with the baby jogger again. I definitely need to focus more on strengthening my shoulders in anticipation of running with the kiddos.

Kristan - Keep up the great workouts and you'll be able to run 5 miles in no time!

Kristi- it's not vain. completely understandable. I used to be a really big Alias fan.

Melanie- I did get my stroler, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. weather hasn't been to nice.

I'm a little slow (didn't get on the old 'puter the past 2 days) but I'm ready to join in the fun! I'm just getting started back into exercise, delivered a beautiful baby boy on 3/2/06 and have a just turned 3 year old son as well. My doc recommded against much for workouts while pregnant due to preterm labor, so it's been a while. Luckily most of my PG weight is gone, just 2-3 lbs to go, but a little jiggly in spots.
last week-mon-walk 2 miles, light abs
tues-played in the snow with Joe :)
wed-walked 2.5 miles, light abs
thurs-does cleaning and digging out prepg clothes count?
fri-walked 3 miles plus stretch max
sat-Joe was ring bearer in a wedding-chased his cute little tushie all over
this week has been like working out with old friends, monday did Cathe's low impact step (added some slight higher impact), tues did the body sculpting on that dvd, today-lowmax or walk on the tm, not sure yet! It's nice to get back in the swing of things!
Kristi-good luck on training for a half marathon-I did one just before became pg with John-was lots of fun! I followed a training schedule from runners world (I think) for the last 11-12 weeks before the race and felt very prepared and it was really pretty fun!
Kristan-I know what you mean about your little one maybe just liking boobs-sometimes I feel like a human binkie!
Sunny-did you get the dreamer design or which one did you get?
Melanie-the weather hasn't been too peachy here in Iowa either-I'm starting to get cabin fever!!!!
have a great week!
julie
