Postpartum Check-In...Happy Monday!!!

Hello! Wow-what a busy weekend for us. My mom left on Friday to go home, and she was to come back lastnight. My DH's dad and his girlfriend came to visit on Friday-Sunday. And, my DH's brother, his wife and little boy (1 1/2) came to visit on Saturday. We also took Andy to a birthday party on Saturday, and we took little Aidan with us too. So, needless to say, after we got home from church yesterday, all we wanted to do was take naps. At least Aidan cooperated!
My incision is still a little oozy, Stephanie. One part in slightly red, but i really think it's just from my waistband of pants/underwear rubbing it. My sis told me to put Aquaphor or vaseline on it to help minimize the irritation. Still feels a little "pully", and I am still quite inflated. When I go back for my 6 week check-up, I will ask again about this lump in the front-the midwife said she thought it was my bowel (yuck-o), so we'll see.

Lastnight was not a peaceful night:(. I wanted to go to bed around 9:30p.m., but it was around 11:00p.m. until Aidan wanted any parts of sleep. Then, he was so gassy that as soon as I would put him down, go back to my bed and lay down, he would wake up all frantic. I have been giving him Mylecon drops, and they seem to help sometimes. It also seems that when I feel gassy, he is gassy too. I am going to cut way down on dairy in my diet and see if that does the trick? Any other suggestions? I am breastfeeding. Of course, Aidan is sleeping now:confused:.

Hello to everyone who follows!

Sounds like everyone had a busy weekend.
Jen, sorry to hear about Aidan being so gassy and the rough night it caused. Caden is SO gassy as well. I have been giving him gas drops, and that has helped considerably. I'm breastfeeding, but also supplementing with formula due to my low supply. I started tracking my foods to see if something I was eating was causing his extra gassy days. So far, it seems like eggs may possibly be to blame for some of his gas--at least for the awful smell. I also switched to Good Start, since it is supposedly easier to digest.

The difficult part about tracking the effect of different foods is that it can take a long time to pinpoint the food culprit. My doctor said that milk that is consumed by the mother, for example, can take a couple weeks to leave a baby's system.

I'm crossing my fingers I can get in a workout today. It's been a few days, so I feel like I should do a circuit so that I can hit cardio and weights...maybe I'll try Bootcamp. I may crash by the end of the day though, as Caden was up for 3 hours again last night and is fighting a morning nap :( I'm so frustrated to still be up 3lbs from when I left the hospital. I know it's not much, but I never thought my clothes would fit tighter 6 weeks AFTER delivery!

All for now-

Hi ladies!
Jen--Glad you had a fun weekend! I could have written your post about last night. Charlie was very gassy and would wake up as soon as I'd lay him down. i kept falling asleep while feeding him (bottle), and so he never got a full bottle at a time and was hungry more often too. Henry called me a couple of times because he was scared of the dark. I tried to do it all because Dh had an early day today, and I wound up getting maybe 2 hours sleep. Ugh. Jen--I think that some babies are just gassier than others. I am formula feeding and having the same trouble. Charlie sounded like a motor boat last night farting up a storm ... poor thing. My incision is much better, still a little oozy and sore at night after a long day. I'm SO bloated in the tummy still and weigh SO much. I'm very discouraged. Dh is sweet, but I don't think he understands that I won't enjoy the holidays if I'm this huge. Still can't fit into hardly anything that's non-maternity. I bought some size 16 jeans and can't even fit into THEM! Forget my old size 8s and 6s. I morn the loss of them. :( Anyway... Don't mind me, I'm operating on no sleep and half-caff coffee. What a dumb idea that was!

Lisa--HI! Do the gas drops work for you? They don't do a thing for Charlie, except for maybe help him pass the gas. Wish I were only up 3 pounds! You're doing great! Ah to be able to work out again... Can't WAIT until that day comes!!

OK better go tend to some laundry while my day-sleeper is snoozing. :) uh oh, just heard him fuss...

PS Jen--I ordered a post-c-section Pilates DVD on Amazon the other day. I'll let you know if it's any good.

Hi everyone. All these gassy babies! I feel for you. Whenever Mimi starts "crab-assing" (that's our name for it) and we cannot figure her out, she will release the biggest, stinkiest fart. I'm getting a little sad- she's about to outgrow her bassinet and I need to move her to her crib at night. Which may make my life harder- she still nurses at night sometimes.

Lisa- ITA with you on 1. goodstart- that's always been my preferred formula, and 2. Bootcamp- big bang for your workout buck.

Stephanie- switch yourself to some full caff!

Jen- Aquaphor cures everything.

Yesterday I made up a new workout- BC cardio/legs plus TimeSaver #5 (mostly L+G). It was about an hour and a total sweatfest. I am super sore!

Kristan-LOL on the "crab-assing"! Never knew there were so many gassy babies...maybe we should rename our check-in to something gas-related..HA! JJ

Stephanie-Sorry you're feeling down about your post-partum body. That's great that your hubby is being supportive, but I agree, they don't completely understand. Although we are all at different stages in post-partum, I think we all struggle with these issues. That's why I love having support from you ladies here!

Bootcamp never happened yesterday. I was feeling really down yesterday and Caden was crabby. I'm starting to think I may have a mild case of PPD. Although he is gradually making progress with his sleep (probably because we are sleeping with him), I feel like I'm feeling a little worse each day. I'll speak with my dr. about it at my 6wk check-up tomorrow. I know that working out will help with my mood...hopefully I can make it happen today.
