post-pregnacy question

Hey mommies! I am new to this forum – but not to Cathe. I posted this in the open discussion – but wanted to get all of your thoughts & suggestions.

I had my baby 3mths ago, I put on about 39 lbs, worked out up until the day I had her. I was extremely petite pre-pregnancy – barley 5’ and around 101 lbs. I have been at my pre-pregnancy workout routine (5 x’s a week) since 4 weeks post-partum, and the scale has barley moved. I eat healthy, exercise I don’t understand why its taking so long for this weight to come off, I know it took 9 mths to put it on, etc., etc., but you would think since I am so faithful about my exercise routine and diet that it would come off a little faster. At least 1 lb a week, but I haven’t seen any loss.

Its so frustrating not being able to put on 1 pair of pants that I fit into pre-pregnancy. Do think my body is just hanging on to some pregnancy hormones and that is what the stall is? Any suggestions or comments is greatly appreciated and if anyone else had this problem. Thank you!!

Lori

Lori, first of all congrats! I am almost exactly your size. I am a little under 5 feet tall and was about 101 before I had my second child. I was 108 before I had my first child. I like you exercised til the end of both pregnancies. I did gain less than you but still found especially with my first, that while nursing my body held onto the last bits of fat. You didn't mention if you are nursing or not but if you are that is the culprit. With my first as soon as she weaned herself, I dropped down from 109-101 very quickly. My second is now 6 months old. When I was 3 months postpartum, I was ready to go back to work and tried on my old clothes, no luck with most of them but now at 6 months postpartum, I am at 102 and my clothes fit. My abs are not flat yet though. Please join us at the postpartum check in, and if you want to email me [email protected]

i am not breast-feeding so that isn't culprit. Its just so frusterating of why its not coming off. I am back to work now (my 2nd week) and I have beautiful suits that it feels like i will never be able to wear again. I HOPE AND PRAY by 6mths i am back down to where i was - but its doubtful. I don't know what else more i can possibly do to make this weight come off.

Did you tweek your diet or anything like that?

Hi shopaholic. You mentioned your abs are not flat yet. Do you expect that they eventually will be back to pre-preg state? Did you regain your pre-preg abs after your first pregnancy. I am hearing from people that the abs will never be the same again and that you end up with a deflated pooch that will be crinkly looking and always there. I am very nervous about this.

After I weaned my first daughter, my abs were as flat as prepregnancy. My second daughter is now 6 months ans still nursing twice a day. I believe that once she is weaned my stomache will flatten. It is close to prepreggo state yet not flat yet.

Lori, how much weight did you already lose. If you have lost minimal of the 39 pounds I would get a check up just to make sure its not your thyroid. If you have lost a chunk, I think it will just come off gradually with exercise. It will take time since you did gain a significant amount of weight, but will come off. I gained 23pounds with my first, , then 22 pounds with my second and it still took time to come off. Interestingly, I recently had a physical and blood work did still show effects of pregnancy so I bet pregnancy hormones stay in the body look after that baby comes out.
