post-preg

I am new to this forum but I have been doing cathe workouts for the past few years. I am need of DESPERATE help. I had a baby 3mths ago, worked out until the day I had her, put on about 39 lbs, I thought it would come right off considering how I am an avid exerciser. I started back up pretty much “gun-ho” 4 weeks post-partum, and the weight is coming off sooooooo slowly. I eat healthy, exercise and it seems like its never going to come off.

What is also weird is that it seems like the actual birth expanded my hips, I was not wide prior to birth.

Any suggestions and what worked for anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Lori

Hi Lori. Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your little one. What a blessing.

Good for you for working out during your entire pregnancy. I know it gets hard especially in the last 3 months. Unfortunately, the weight will not just come off. It took nine months to put it on, and will probably take that long to take it off, maybe a little shorter. But I know how you feel, as do other women on this forum. You really really want that weight to come off.

Just be patient. Eating right and exercise (yes I know it is hard with a little one) but even a little workout is better than nothing. Before you know it, you will be back to your old self. But you just have to be patient. I have two boys, my youngest is two and I'm actually in better shape now than I was before I was had kids.

Good luck Lori.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but your hips have gotten wider. They expand to accomidate the baby then for you to be able to give birth. I'm almost 2 years post partum and mine are still wider than before. I think this is one of those things that is a change that doesn't go away. But believe me when I say, you will be able to shed all the baby weight with time. As the saying goes, It took 9 months to put on.... (don't cha just wanna kick the person in the teeth that made that one up!!!) Just try and be paitent, you will be one smokin hot momma in no time!!!:7

Hi Lori,

welcome to the forums!! :)

My son is almost 3yrs. and I am still struggling with my weight loss, but I lost more AFTER I stopped breastfeeding him at 18 months. Well this summer, I stopped exercising for a few months and put all the weight that I lost back on ;( , so now I am fighting to get those off plus about 30 more!! Just be patient, and pay lots of attention to your diet. Just like everyone said, it took 9 months to put it on... well you know the rest.... Good Luck!!!;-) ;-)

hi Lori, Welcome to the forums:) I just wanted to add that there is a pregnancy and postpartum fitness forum here if you wanted to check it out. The other postpartum moms check in once a week on Monday or Tuesday:) I am sure you would be welcome there for support and advice!:)

The forum section is called "Fit Moms Pregnancy and Postpartum"

Its just so frusterating. I think i am losing inches, but the scale has not budge AT ALL. I FAITHFULLY workout 5xs a week (my little girl is excellent - she has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks old), and i thought i would see at least 1 lb a week or something, but nope nothing at all.

My cardio is just as intense as it was before I was pregnant - I worked out the entire time - so it wasn't hard to get back the stamina for my intense workouts.

Maybe my body is just hanging on to left over pregnancy hormones!!

Thanks for your thoughts!

Lori
