Post Partum Happy Friday

Just browsed through Thursday's post. Caden is sitting in his bouncy, which is always short-lived, so I better make this quick. When I have some extra time, I need to study up on everyone!

I'm still struggling with overnights with Caden. He's a little over 5 weeks, and has an awful time sleeping at night. Since birth, he's only slept 6-8 hours all day (and night) long. He's now beginning to squeeze in a nap most days, but I hate the nights! He will go to sleep sometime between 9 and midnight, and when he wakes up sometime between 12 and 3, he's up for at least 2-3 hours! When DH finally gets him back to sleep, he only sleeps for 1-2hours. We really didn't want to co-sleep, so it's bad enough that he won't sleep in his crib (we've tried it all...white noise, swaddling, sleep positioner, inclined bed, etc). Ugh! These nights of 3-5 hours of broken sleep are going to put me over the edge.

Anyway, hope to have time to read more later.

HawaiiLisa - saw your post y'day - looking forward to your baby's arrival, but not nearly as much as you Im sure!!!

LisaM - I would STRONGLY encourage you to get a book called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. This book literally saved my life. Our 1st was the WORST sleeper. I went thru every sleep book on the market and when she was 18 mos. I found this one. We followed it with our 2nd and now our 3rd - sleep issues are very minimal. Hang in there....(((hugs)))))

crying 6-yo....brb

Sleep was GREAT last night! Julia slept from 10:30 til 3AM!!!! Yahoo!!!! Then I nursed her and fell asleep in the lazyboy til 7. So a pretty good nights sleep. Better than when I was pg too!!!

The house is QUIET! DDs at school, Mike WORKING at preschool (LOL!!!), and Julia is asleep. I got some housework done, a shower, and now I am typing WITH BOTH HANDS!!!! Unbelievable!

This afternoon I have Julia's pics at the photog's. Gina nad Isabel will be in some too. Hope they turn out good/Julia cooperates! Mike is not coming - helllllllp! I'm bringing cookies to bribe the girls!!!:p

I'm getting more and more energy and the pp bleeding is not much at all. I REALLY hope I get cleared to do low-impact on Monday.

LisaM, Anyway, that book really teaches you about babies and their need for sleep. It will NOT get him sleeping thru the night at this age. I think that is incredbly unrealistic. Few babies do it and their mamas are lucky ladies for sure! But it teaches you to recognize the "sleep cues" your baby gives you and really puts confidence in you really will be sleeping again some day! We've tried it all - Ferber, baby whisperer, Pantley...and more. None of it worked for us. This book was and is awesome!

I better get some things done while I can....see ya!

Hi Ladies!

Kate--YEY on the sleep last night!! Wow! I wish Charlie would do that! He's up every three hours wanting to be fed. I thought increasing his ounces would keep him satiated longer, but that hasn't happened. He does fall asleep quickly and usually only takes half a bottle during the night, so that's good... Enjoy your quiet day!!! A restful night and a quiet day! You're having a great Friday!

Lisa--I'm so sorry you're having sleep issues. Your baby sounds just like my second child, Henry. He NEVER slept --day or night. I plunged into deep blues/postpartum depression because of the lack of sleep. And I lived on caffeine and sugar for the first year just so I could stay awake. Who would have thought that sleep could mean so much to a person? But we don't realize it's worth until it's not there. I SO empathize with you, and while I know you're looking for solutions, I really don't have any. I also tried everything with Henry. We eventually had to let him start sleeping with us. Then at 18 months moved him in with his brother, and he had no further sleep problems. But then again, he was 18 months old! We had some problems with Oliver being extra fussy and changed his formula to lactose-free (as our pediatrician suggested), and that cleared up his problems. Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? There could be a formula allergy if you're formula feeding, and you could ask your doc about it... Otherwise, Try the book Kate suggested. I've heard great things about it. I almost bought it for this baby, but Charlie is doing much better than Henry did. Let us know how the book works, and know that we're here for you when you need to vent. ((Hugs))

Well, it's a cool, rainy day here. Henry wet the bed, so I'm doing linens today and a bunch of other laundry I let pile up. If I feel up to it, I'm going to dust the house too. I'll hold off on vacuuming, probably. Doc said not to do it for awhile. :( Dh will have to do it (and I HATE to be a nag about it). Sleep last night was OK. Up every three hours, and he was gassy and fussy some, so he was harder to get back down. Well, Mr. Fussypants :) is awake. Better go. Have a great day, girls!!

Stephanie, My midwives say lack of sleep is one of the biggest causes of PPD. That and lack of pp support. It is so hard to have a non-sleeper. Sounds like you're doing a lot of housework today - booooo!:p ITA with your doc - no vacuuming!!! Was the bedwetting in the top or bottom bunk? I can never decide which sheets are worse to change! Hope you can catch a nap today. Not looking so good for me, but last night was pretty good so no biggie if I don't get one. Yeah, I say that now.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............:D

It seems I spoke too soon. Charlie has been awake ALL DAY. Every time I get him close to napping, Henry bounds in the room and wakes him up (unintentionally). Ugh. He's down for a few minutes, so I wanted to hop online and try to find some diet ideas on the Web. I weighed myself this a.m., and it's very very depressing. VERY depressing. 40 pounds to go before I'm pre preg size. :( And I'm not up for step/weights/cardio yet because my incision is still very sore, so I'm going to have to really focus on my eating. If anyone has any suggestions, please send them my way. I was tempted to try that Alli that they sell at the store. But I'm pretty anti-diet-drugs. I just need to lose 10 lbs quickly so that I can get motivated. I sure wish there was a coffee and muffin diet. I'd SO do well on that.

Hope you mamas are doing well today!!! :)

Stephanie-I'm sure a lot of your weight is still water weight. Give yourself some time your body is still healing.

Kate-how did the pictures go? I have Ryder's scheduled for Tues. I bribed my boys with a trip to Toys R Us when I did my maternity pics and they were fabulous:D

LisaM-I have co-slept with all my boys and it is the only way I get a decent night sleep.

So I offically got pooped on today:p I was worried b/c Ryder hadn't pooped in two days so all day I am praying for him to poop. Well I went to change a wet diaper and he had pooped and I was so happy and while I was cleaning him up he started pooping again so I closed the diaper until I thought he was done, well he wasn't done and he shot poop all over me:D The boys were watching and they couldn't stop laughing and I was just so proud that my little boy finally pooped I didn't care that it was all over me:D

Hi everyone!

I can't post everyday, so I'll do it when I can.

My weight is coming off very slowly. I was hoping for a faster loss, but this is typical. Of the 70 lbs I've gained, I've lost 44 and have 26 left to go. It will probably take me a year because I want to lose 10-15 vanity lbs as well. I'm enjoying my workouts immensely.

Gwen weighed in at 13lbs, 10 oz at her 2 month check up this week, which is fine with me--the bigger she is and the faster she grows the more calories I burn. She sleeps a lot during the day and is pretty contented otherwise. We co sleep, so sleep at night really isn't an issue for me, although I should ideally be getting up at 6:00 am and I'm getting up closer to 7:00 or 7:30--not good. It's hard to get up in the dark, especially when it is cold.

LisaM--sorry about the sleep issues--Our first child was highly "caffinated" (don't you know they come caffinated and decaf?) Anyway, he slept very little day or night and was somewhat colicky and discontented. Hang in there--it will pass.

Kate--LOL on typing with both hands--why do you think I've been doing all this lurking and not posting;)) Gwen is lying on a blanket next to me now and she's happy.

Stephanie--I'll bet most of your weigh is water weight that you haven't shed yet. Hang in there a couple of weeks. I lost like 38 lbs in the first two weeks (and then inexplicably gained back 5 when I started working out again--that's never happened to me before:mad:). Now the other 26 is depressing me. I look like such a porker. At least by the time swim suit season rolls around, I should be back in my normal sizes. I just have to get through the holidays....

Candra--I've been pooped on, vomited on, bled on, peed on, and used as a napkin and nose wipe for various children throughout the years. No silk shirts here! My kids think that Gwen's explosive poops and farts are extremely funny, especially Bardric, who is five:p.

Hi Jen, Hi Lisa, Hi Morris, Hi Kristan and everyone else--it's going to take me a while to get in the swing of this again!

Maggie:)

good to see you maggie. THis has been "one of those weeks." Have only complete 2 workouts. Today is our school's 'walk-a-thon' which hopefully will let me get in 4 miles with the kids.

For tomorrow I have announced to everyone that I am going to the basement for a long workout and no one can bother me. Hoping to do something long and sweaty, like IMAX3 or Body Max2. I need it.

Re sleep, Mimi sometimes sleeps from 7-7, but other nights wakes up a couple times for a snack. She probably weighs 15-16 pounds. Big girl! (like her mama).
