Cathlete
Hi ladies! It's so awesome that our group is growing. It's nice to see some old friends too (from pregnancy check-ins). We'll have to make small introductions this week, where are you from & how many kids (and ages do you have)?

This week went well. I lost 2 lbs & 4.5 inches. 1 1/2 more weeks of intensity before I calm things down again. :)

Sun: Kickmax w/2lb hand weights + Ab conditioning
Mon: Imax 2 + Core Max 1
Tue: Body Max + Ab Condning
Wed: about 30 min of step work (kids super needy)
Thurs: KPC w/ 2lb hand weights + TJ Lower Body + Ab Condning
Fri: Circuit Max + TJ Cardio Party 1 + Core Max 2
Sat: Hardcore Extreme 1 + Ab Condning

~~~I just loved Hardcore Extreme 1, I haven't done any of these yet. I will definitely put these into my routine from now on!!
Okay, I'm from central Minnesota.
I have 3 boys: 11 years old, 2 years old, almost 2 months. No girls yet!!!!
Melanie...you cardio psycho you!!!!! Hardcore Extreme is VERY fun. I love all three of these....it's just that I'm concentrating on heavy lifting right now...maybe for fun I'll go do a HE tonight!! Isn't our sense of fun kind of warped :p :p :p :p :p You've motivated me MEL.....I'll let ya know if I get it in.
I just ordered two more barbells and weights for my ladies to use in our Tuesday night class prior to Tae Kwon Do. WEIGHTS, WEIGHTS, WEIGHTS, WEIGHTS,.....I just LOVE the feel of iron in my palms and MEL just LOVES the feel of sweat running down her bod!!!! If we could combine ourselves Mel....we'd look like Monica Brandt....I'm sure of it!!!!!
Briee (in a somewhat silly mood - sorry)(Hey Mel...I did Janis Saffel (sp?) two days ago, it was kickbox - um.....can't remember the name - it was fun!!)
Also....Maggie...hows the baby doing???
Shopaholic...I have received NO new pix lately...what's up - I'm sure she is BEAUTIFUL - even more than before. Maybe it's my new email [email protected]
Emy...get that book yet??
Briee, isn't it time for you to get knocked up again? Sorry, couldn't resist. My mother can't work her scanner and I am clueless so therefore I have no pictures online. did I foward you Alexis' 2 year pics from sears a few months back?
Mel, how do you fit your workouts in?
Hey ladies!
It's so nice to 'hear' all the happy energy you all have! :) :)
Melanie - your week looks fantastic!!! How do you do it?! Congrats on the weight/inches loss, too – you must be feeling great! I want to know, too, how you manage to get those workouts in. I would have to be holding a toddler in each arm with the baby in the Bjorn if I wanted to workout every day – of course, that would be a great way to build up arm and leg strength, wouldn’t it? :)
Briee – do you teach? Sounds like lots of fun – I’d take your classes if you were near by!! I’ve been AFAA certified for three years but haven’t taught in ages (I used to run a program when I was in the military). I’m waiting for the kids to be a little older before I attempt anything, but I’m getting fed up with AFAA so may switch to ACE.
Gillian is off the breathing treatments and seems to be getting better. (Wahoo!) Have a follow-up on Wed, but am sure it will be fine. She's about 8.5 lbs now - quite a gain for just a few weeks - I am thrilled that my milk supply has been holding up since my return to work. It's been close a few times, but if I pump after feedings, I can scrounge a few ounces here and there, so we're making it!
Didn't work out much due to juggling sick kids and OT at work.
Sunday - Power Max on 8 inch step
Tuesday - walked 30 min at work
Wednesday - IMAX 3 - surprised at how much less difficult it seemed this time (not that it's easy, mind you!!! But it didn't actually kill me, for once)
Friday - quick walk at work, abs (15 min of crunches, planks, pilates 100's, etc.)
That's not great, I know, but I'm hoping to do better <fingers crossed for luck> Kids are all healthy and DH isn't traveling this week. Haven't lost any weight - not that I expected to with my skimpy w/o schedule...
Big News: DH got word that we may be moving this Spring. If that happens, I MAY be able to work from home, which would free up several hours a day (currently our commuting time) which would GUARANTEE me a workout!!! :) :) :) (See what my priorities are?!) We'll know more in a few weeks when his boss's boss is making a trip out to DH's office. Hoping, hoping, hoping for good news!!!
You guys are embarrassing me. I have to tell you, determination is the only thing helping me to get this workouts in. Also, it's just for Jan, then I'll let up (especially since my clothes are fitting now).
At 10am every morning Justin lays in his crib for quiet time for 60-90 minutes. If I'm lucky, Jadon is sleeping...as he's getting older he won't be sleeping as much & it'll be harder to do. I workout the minute Justin goes down for quiet time, until I get him up.
At about 2pm, Justin lays down for a nap. It is then that I get my 2nd "mini" workout in. This is the less intense workout. If I have time, I'll do my abs then too. If I don't have time now for abs, I'll do them later in the evening when things quiet down.
It is so frustrating to w/o with Jadon awake and crabby. There have been times I had to pause the workout 6-7 times in an hour period. HOWEVER, I now have a game plan. DH has agreed to watch Jadon from 10-11 everyday so I can workout. DH fishes everyday from 330-630, so this certainly is a fair arrangement. This is 'special' bonding time for the two of them...as DH will be childcare provider when I go back to work on Feb 14th. He's only done it 2 days, and Jadon has screamed almost the whole time. :D DH will just have to figure it out. It's just ONE hour, right?@?!?!
Gracenote, that's great news about DH's work. I hope it all falls into place for you. OT? That's tough on a workout schedule that's for sure. When I go back to work I aim for 4-5 workouts/week.
Briee, I've been pumping more iron? ARen't you proud of me? Not too many strength only workouts though. I miss cardio too much. I think I have legs & glutes on my schedule for next week. I'll have to bore my way through it.
Shopaholic, I agree with you about Briee. It IS time for her to get knocked up again. She's got way too much time on her hands if she's got exercise groupies at her house. :d
Gracenote....I take Tae Kwon Do on Tuesday nights and the children take class the hour before my class so all the moms who normally sit and talk and get chubby sitting and talking are getting together in the basement of the community building to pump iron while the kids take their class. (doesn't that sound rugged!!). It is so much fun and word is getting around. Some women in another town want to hold a class too. But I'm wanting to teach my own class rather than doing a DVD together and having to lug a TV around so I've contacted DebbieH to help me put something together. She's the greatest.
Mel....good for you....add those weights in girl!!!
Shopaholic...I'm not speaking to you. (at least for today - did you see my post on the Braxton Hicks thread - obviously not!!:p :p :p ) oh yes and Mel's comments...I'm not speaking to you either.
Briee (I'm not pregnant!!! In case you were wondering. I'm postpartum...utterly postpartum)
And Mel....I just did Legs and Glutes this morning...It's NOT boring. Especially during that music change while your holding your leg out to the side...I love that part. I even put on 5 pound ankle weights this time....oh the wonderful burn. I did GS chest and tri's yesterday and then went to bible study and while I was sitting there I was basking in the burning tight feeling that was goin on in my chest/tri region....thinking of how everyone needs this incredible feeling.....thinking of how great Mel would feel if she'd crank out some chest fly reps with heavy weights. }( }( }( }( At least that's what I would have said had I been speaking to you. But I'm not.:p :p
Briee
Briee, I've gotten the same sort of "burn" from running or doing lots of intense step workout too. I also get "the burn" when I up my weights during my puny strength training sessions. If it makes you feel any better, I had to take TWO 800mg ibuprofens today for my muscle inflammatin. :D :D
OH that is SOOOOO cool.....a double Ibuprofen straight up....thanks for sharing. You know I just love reports such as these.
(Hey I was reading in Nehemiah in the wee hours of the night and do you know Jadon is a Bible name?...I believe it was in Nehemiah 3 or 4..I'll have to look again)
NO! I did NOT know that!!! That's awesome. I hope he was some sort of warrier. I'm going to look that up right now!!
I just looked again and it's Nehemiah 3:7 (seems I can't type the numbers as they translate into smiley's....it's three : seven). Jadon from Meronoth...seems he was one of the VERY important people who helped to rebuild the wall, which was really VERY important to the tribe of Israel. Would be interesting to do a further study. We are studying Nehemiah in our ladies Bible study - interesting study. I remember Chuck Swindol a while back writing a book called "hand me another brick" - about Nehemiah. I just thought it was cool to see his name in there. I had a friend who named their son Tobiah and then read Nehemiah and realized Tobiah was a BAD BAD guy. They quickly changed it to Tobijah (they call him Tobi for short sometimes) who was someone else (can't remember) but I know he was a good guy :7 :7 (me and my short term memory).
Hi ladies,
last week was a good week for me. i lost 2.5 lbs.
of course i can't remember my workouts for last week. I know that i ate alot better. lol
Briee- In the Bible is the Jadon spelled Jadon or Jaden? I am very interested because i have a son named Jaden.
glad to see most everyone is back and checking in!!
Melanie - I loved your idea about introductions, but then I FORGOT! :+ Can't blame it on my 'pregnant brain' anymore can I? I'll just have to come to grips with the fact that I'm losing it! :)
Anyway, I'm in SE Pennsylvania with 3 DD's: 3 1/2, 2, and 8 wks. If/when we move, we're going to the western side of the state.
I didn't complete any of these without stopping the DVD at least 4 times:
Mon: stepworks, coremax#1
Tues; body fusion (with much heavier weights- never thought I'd say that)
Weds: timesaver#4, cardio toolbox kick/step, 15 min yoga (I've had Timesaver for a year- never did #4! It's one of the better routines, from KPC I think)
Thurs: 2.5 mile run after work with stair intervals
Fri: MIS; cardio toolbox interval step
Sat: 3.5 mile Run, 12 minutes yoga (I would have liked to have run farther, but my dog was at the groomer's and I felt uncomfortable venturing to much farther out without him)
I started back at work. It was fine- in fact, surprisingly pleasant. I was intially very dreadful of the whole thing, but the following made it much easier: I'm only back two days week, my husband's office is accross the street from the child center (so he visits), Starbucks, a new YMCA, and I have plenty of milk frozen for Gus.
I went shopping Friday night and the size 8's were fitting well, and some were even baggy. So, even if my weight loss has stalled, I think I am toning up. I'll never be super thin or super toned, but will be happy to fit in most of my clothes again.
Melanie- I am liking the cardio toolbox. Very useful addition. I am also like you in that I don't feel I have exercised unless I sweated to some intense cardio. I have to force myself to do weights.
I am in St. Louis. My daughters are 5 and 3; Gus is almost 3 months.
Kristan
Hi everyone,
I guess I'll join the post partum thread, even though I have not started working out quite yet. I plan to start easy this Friday, the 27th.
Melani--congrats on the weight/inch loss. I can never do that much cardio, because of my injury prone body. I'm jealous:p. But, like Briee, I love the heavy lifting too. I can't wait for impact!!!
Briee--do your kids take only one class a week and do you think that is enough? My husband wants to start our daughters in Tae Kwon Do. (He won't let them take ballet lessons because of all the wierd body image stuff--he wants them to be strong and fit and not obsessed with an unhealthy thinness--bunny trail). I thought that they would have to do 2-3 classes a week to make it worthwhile, but perhaps not. I'd love your perspective.
Gracenote--I must have missed something. Is your baby okay? breathing treatments sound serious, but it sounds as if it has been mostly resolved. I hope it works out so that you can work from home, that would be great.
Sunnydelight--great weight loss! You are so close to your goal.
Kristan--size 8's--that's great. It's gonna be a while before I see that size again, I'm afraid.
Well, I'm not ready to admit how much weight I have to lose, because I must have gained more than I hoped, but at least, it's not as much as last time. It's just that I have my 20 year highschool reunion this summer and I don't want to be chubby for it, so if that's not a motivator, I don't know what is. I hated high school, and only keep up with a couple of friends very occaisionally, but I have this sick fascination with what happened to everyone. Do I need to get a life or what?
Evangeline (pronounced ee-vanjel--een--keeps getting pronounced with a long i sound at the end, which is wrong:p ) is nursing well and still sleeping quite a bit.
We'll start school again tomorrow. I hope I don't lose my mind}( :p }( .
EDA--I live in Oregon. Our children are Gabriel, age 11, Rhiannon, age 9, Isabella, age 6, Malcolm, age 4, Bardric, age 2, and Evangeline, just 12 days old.
take care, all
Maggie:)
I just love Chuck Swindoll! I often have listened to him online. He is just so real and an amazing teacher and story teller! I NEVER get bored listening to him!
That's too funny about Tobijah! Actually our daughter Miriam wasn't named for Miriam per say in the Bible but I did look up everthing I could about her. Was pretty bummed how she was last mentioned in the Old Testament (or to my knowledge at least). DH was worried we spelled it wrong so I quickly pulled out my Bible to make sure we didn't LOL!
My week was bla. Ben had two on call days this week. What that means is for a medical student that he stays at the hospital to observe and workup extra patients if there are any. So he comes home around 10:00 after leaving around 5:00 a.m. in the morning. Needless to say it makes us all tired and fitting in a lot of extras for the week just didn't happen - WHEN WILL SPRING BE HERE???? I need warm weather to get in walks or runs on my own!
So this is it:
Monday: 1 mile 1/2 hike with family pretty slow moving - only counting this cause I really felt my calves the next day!
Tuesday-Wednesday: nada
Thursday : 30 min on elliptical, 180 various lunges, 5 mins abs
Friday: nada
Saturday: 20 min Gym Style legs, then Miriam fussed, 10 min of a Perfect Postpartum workout, then Miriam fussed and I had to stop
Sunday: nada, had family time
Sooo, it wasn't much, BUT... I measured myself and weighed myself, and in the last aprx 3 weeks I lost 2 lbs and lost A WHOLE INCH in my natural waist line and around my naval!!! So I must be doing something right! I should bet ME/BC today too!!! I'm SSOOOOO excited!! Here's to a new rotation this week:)
ETA: I'm 25, live in St. Louis, have two kids: Anthony 3 1/2 ish, Miriam 3 months
Hi everyone,
Just a quick check in today. I'm limiting my internet time until the end of February, so I can concentrate on getting my thesis draft revised. If anyone has any suggestions for how I can carve out work time while being a full-time mom, I'd love to hear them (I've posted this plea on the Open Discussion forums too, under "I need some suggestions, please").
My workouts last week (week 2 of Cathe's Feb '05 rotation):
MON MIC
TUES MIS
WEDS IMAX2; KPC abs
THURS Circuit Max
FRI Cardio Kicks
SAT 40 min run on the treadmill
SUN rest
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with my DH and our two daughters: 5 years old (Paris) and 4 months old (Kate). I'm finishing my doctoral dissertation in the Sociology of Work and Industry. We are currently having a new house built and will probably be moving in a couple of months.
Cheers,
Sandra
Good morning ladies!
This week was not very good with exercising. I only got in one workout on Tuesday during lunch - 1.5 miles. The rest of the week during my lunches I've been making up missed time at work because DS has been sick and I've been trying to get him well. On Wednesday morning when he woke up he was limping because his left knee was swollen and he was complaining about it hurting him. It was not like that when he went to bed and he did not fall or hit anything. The doctor took Xrays but nothing was broken or fractured, but the knee cap looked funny in the X-ray. After the doctor consulted with 3 other doctors (another pediatric doctor, an orthopaedic, & radiologist), he came to the conclusion that DS has viral arthritis in his knee. If it is not better by the end of the week then I will need to take him in for more tests. While DS was at the doctor's office I also had the doctor check DS's lungs because he keeps coughing even though he has been on antibiotics for over a week. Personally, I think this is all related to the medical issues we have been dealing with ever since November when we had to take DS to the emergency room because he turned chalk white, was wheezing badly and was very lifeless (no playing, would only lay down like a ragdoll). I've never been so scared in my life. On top of all of this, I received a note that an infant in DD's class was diagnosed with strep throat & RSV. Hopefully, she won't get these.
On a bright note, I did lose 4 pounds this week. My guess is it must be water weight even though I've been zigzagging my caloric intake. In a couple of weeks I plan to take my measurements and see what the tape measure says. At least these numbers won't lie. This week I plan to really focus on my core by doing some pilates and do some cardio.
Fiddlefit - DD really loves sweet potatoes and cereal mixed with applesauce. I can't shovel it in fast enough. She eats a whole jar at one sitting, but won't take a bottle afterwards. She does not like to mix the 2 together even if I lessen the food. Right now we are sticking with these 2. I've tried carrots, but she keeps spitting them back out. Maybe by midweek I will try her on green beans.
Well, I've already wrote a book for you ladies. Keep up the good work everyone. Time for me to get some work done.
Take care.
P.S. I forgot the introduction. I live in Lexington, KY. DH and I have 2 children, Alexander (3 1/2) and Annamarie (4 months).
