Hi all you gorgeous & strong moms! How's it going?

This week went well. On Wednesday I began a modified South Beach/ Ab Diet as it appeared my weight was going nowhere. It's basically a low carb diet--I'm careful not to fully exclude carbs b/c I'm nursing...so a modified diet. I lost 5 inches & 5 pounds this week. Yahoo!! I wonder if that's typical? Inches lost = pounds lost?

Here's my week:
Sun: Rhytmic Step + TJ Lower Body + Core Max 1
Mon: Imax 3
Tue: High Step Challenge + Core Max 2
Wed: Extreme Intervals + NAP!!!!!---first nap in almost a month!
Thurs: Muscle Endurance/Boot Camp Bonus Mix + Imax3 step only
Fri: Cardio Kicks + TJ Cardio Party 2 + Core Max 3
Sat: Viper + ab conditioning

I got my high step topper today...so that was exciting. I REALLY enjoyed bonus mix on ME/BC, I never done that one before. Imax 3 step only was disjointed--I won't do that one again.

Justin is waking up from his nap...so I gotta get going!.........

Goodness Melanie- that is quite a week. I am tired just looking at it. What is the bonus mix on ME/BC?

I'll post my week later- I have to get ready for Gus' baptism tomorrow.

Hi there post-partum moms!

Melanie, I don't know how you can do such high intensity workouts everyday and still function - good for you! I completed Cathe's HardCore Fatloss rotation and found that all the high intensity in those workouts really got to me after a while. It gave me some great cardio conditioning, though. You lost 5 pounds in a week? Wow!! Maybe I should go back to the Zone for a bit, to get these last 13 pounds off. Have you noticed any difference in your milk supply?

Last week I began Cathe's February '05 rotation, so here's what I've done:

MON: Step, Jump & Pump
TUES: IMAX
WEDS: BodyMax
THURS: 30 interval treadmill run; CoreMax 1; Total Body Stretch 1
FRI: Kick, Punch & Crunch
SAT: Power Hour
SUN: rest

Have a great week everyone!
Sandra

Kristan~ The BC/ME bonus combo is a premix that combines the 2 workouts. I think it was 75 minutes in length. It has no core work & I think 6 cycles consisting of: BC cardio, BC strength, 2-ME strength.

Sandra~ No change in milk supply. I"m very fortunate with the milk thing. I'm even pumping an extra 5 oz daily to freeze & store for when I go back to work. Your workouts look awesome. I"m such a cardio junkie, that if I did just strength training and no cardio I"d feel like I didn't work at all. I was extremely sore a couple of days this week. I did take ibuprofen once for muscle aches. I think it was from the green band work in HSC & TJ's lower body.

Hello everyone. Gus' baptism was this morning. It was very nice- Gus just looked around as he was paraded around the sanctuary and didn't flinch when the priest poured water over his head.

I went to the dr. for my annual exam. I have lost a whopping 1/2 pound since November 29 (gus was born 10-29). I am floored. I have been working my tail off! I know some of my flab had converted to muscle, and my clothes are fitting well. And, my cardiovascular endurance is great right now. But just a 1/2 pound? I am still that same 6 pounds from my pre-Gus weight (but a full 16 from my pre-first baby weight). I don't think I'll drop it until Gus weans.

So, here was my week, which feels like a waste of time since I am convinced I will hold onto these pounds no matter what I do:

Monday: IMAX 3 step only, SJP w/u, step only, SB #3, 10 min pilates
Tuesday: CIA 2303 step and circuits, heavy weights and abs
Wednesday: IMAX 3 w/u, 1-5
Thursday: IMAX 3 w/u, 6-10, ME lower body and abs
Friday: Cardio tool box w/u, hi/lo, sporty step; ME upper body

I head back to work on Thursday. I'll be working 2 days a week for a while.

Kristan

Kristan, I can read the frustration in your post. I feel for you, girl! You are working really hard...but as you posted many times moms will hold onto those last 5 lbs or so until after the baby is weaned. So you have in fact lost all your weight from this pregnancy...what a feat! Many women take a year or more before they're back to their pre-preg wt. (I know this isn't what you want to hear). Have fun going back to work (I know you'll look great in your career clothes)!!!!!

You've been very patient with breastfeeding (which you are now a success at) as well as the fussiness of your new baby. Hang in there!!

Now, I'm dying to know....how do you like Mindy? How about Imax 3? Which is CIA 2303?

BTW, I'm glad Gus' baptism went well. He sounds like a cutie!

Melanie- you are very sweet, and likely correct about holding onto weight until weaning. (but, perhaps you have me confused with someone else? Gus has never been fussy and I've always had luck with BF. I'm the missouri girl with 3 kids and the Sienna minivan, which I hope you get very soon).

anyway, I liked cardio toolbox. It took me a while to pick up some of the 'moves', but I really think I'll like having it once I get it down. I surprisingly really liked the hi/lo. She's a little perky, but that's ok and she has a good sense of humor. In fact, Netflix has some of her other stuff available so I ordered them. CIA 2303 (I may have the numbers mixed up) is Keli Roberts "step it strong". I got that from netflix too, so I've sent it back already. I liked it. The cardio was easy, but the circuits were unique and the back/core work was great.

I thought IMAX 3 was hard, and I felt like an old lady. There was so much hard jumping that I thought I'd blow out a knee. For instance, the interval where you jump backward off the step with both legs. Is that really necessary? I just stepped off. I'm 35 and don't want anymore knee problems.

Thanks again for your kind words. Kristan

Kristan~ Yes, I must have gotten part of you confused with someone else! Oops! Sorry. Yes, we are in the process of ordering our Sienna. They are short in supply here in Minnesota. It probably will be 2 months before it actually arrives. :(
Netflix sounds cool, since they have w/o DVDs. How expensive is it to join?

About Netflix: It depends how many DVD's you order at a time. For instance, we always have 3 DVD's-- that plan is $18 or $20. There is another plan where you can always have one DVD- That's $10 a month. In St. Louis, we have a shipping facility here, so if we mail a DVD out on a Monday, we have a new one by Wednesday (although most w/o videos ship from CA). I think there's a facility somewhere in MN.

You'll love your Sienna. I recall you were ordering 4WD. Ours isn't, but it has been great in the snow. I can only imagine how good a 4WD will be. And, it makes me feel good the kids are in one of the safest cars around. Not glamourous, but very functional.

I just checked out the selection at Netflix, and it seems they don't have too many exercise DVDs. Perhaps you could include an hurl? Or give me a lead as to how to find these DVDs?

Yes, the we're looking at the 2006 AWD Sienna Limited. Did you get the DVD package?

Mel....the 5 pounds you lost is a common thing with lo carb dieting. I have been stuck at the weight I have been at for a long time and I was happy with it...BUT last month I went in for some allergy testing and the blood work showed that I had some yeast in my blood. So I went on a candida cleanse diet - you can eat vegatables and meats (which I don't really eat much of - I subbed in some fish and protein powder). By day four I had dropped 5 pounds which had hung on for a long time. I just love those lo carb diets to get rid of that water weight and make ya look really cut. My tummy is really flat now. Just be careful, as you said, when you are nursing to get some GOOD carbs. You are WAY motivated girl!! Enjoy that baby!!

Briee

Melanie, I honestly don't think you need to diet. The last 10 pounds will come off naturally, just not as fast as you'd like. Wow, what a workout week!
Kristen, For months my body held onto the last five pounds of preggo weight. As soon as I weaned Alexis at 9 months, the last five came off plus five more.

Hey Ladies! Mind if I join ya!

These days I barely have time to exercise so I've been focusing on dieting and fit in a workout when I can. Does anyone else here work fulltime outside of the home? I'm having a very hard time fitting everything in. Here is a typical day for me. Get up at 6:30, get myself ready for work and kids ready for daycare, drop kids off at daycare and be at work by 8:00. Leave work at 5:00 and pick up kids from daycare, arrive home by 5:45, make dinner & feed everyone, clean up dishes & wash bottles, get bottles & baby food ready for next day, spend a few minutes playing with kids, give them all baths, put DS to bed by 8:00 after reading him his bedtime story, put DD to bed around 9:00, make my lunch and snacks for the next day as well as clean up a little, and spend about 1/2 hour with DH before taking a shower and going to bed at night around 11. Needless to say I'm exhausted especially since DD still gets up twice at night for a bottle. I can barely fit in exercise at all. However, I've been trying to fit in 30 minutes of exercise at home during my 1 hour lunch break. It does not seem like much, but unless my boss lets me come into work 1/2 hour earlier and extend my lunch to 1 1/2 hours, which I proposed to him, then it will have to do. I'm determined to fit into my summer clothes. Right now I can't fit into my prepregnancy clothes yet. I need to lose about 21 pounds to do that, as of last week I've lost 2.5 pounds of that by zigzagging my caloric intake. However overall I would like to lose 36 pounds. That's where I am in a big nutshell. I'm really hoping checking in with you all will keep me on the right track.

Sorry this is so long. I'll write again later after I've had a chance to read everyone's posts.

Have a great day!
Kristi

Just to add....I HONESTLY think Shopaholic is right on target!!

Briee (I also HONESTLY know that Mel is NOT going to listen to us - she is one determined mommy. Just to encourage you Mel...I never listened to anyone telling me it can't be done either so I completely understand. You go girl.)

Welcome Kristi! I'm a working mom on maternity leave. I go back on Feb 14th. Believe me, I will NOT be able to keep up with the workout schedule I have now...so I"m taking advantage of my time while I can. When I do go back to work, I will be working 60 hr/2 weeks...so 3/4 time I guess you can so (I feel very fortuante). I remember you from pregnancy check-ins, right? I'm glad you're joining b/c I'm confident you're not the only one who has these issues (even if it's just lurkers...your going to inspire them all)!!!!
Remind us Kristi, how old is your baby?

Thanks Melanie! Yup I was with you gals on the check-ins. All of the mommies-to-be & new mommies are truly wonderful inspiring women.

Maternity leave is never long enough. I bet all of your boys are enjoying you being home with them. How do you think you will have to modify your workouts when you return back to work?

Thanks for your very kind words. I'm just trying to do what I can and hope for the best. As long as I can fit into my prepregnancy clothes before the beginning of summer, okay I'm hoping by the end of March, then I will be happy. When DD starts to sleep through the night then I can arrange a better schedule so I can workout more. Whoever said having 2 kids was easier than one needs a really big reality pill. :p But all-in-all, I'm enjoying being a new mommy again and as you can see from my previous post I'm relying heavily on a schedule to accomplish the most important things.

Anyway to your question, DD was born Sept. 9. She just went to her 4 month check-up a week ago and weighs in at 16 lbs 8.5 ozs which puts her in the 90th percentile for weight. Needless to say she loves her bottle, but she is beginning to eat food too. She absolutely loves it.

Melanie- about Netflix- I just use my collage catalogue and figure out what I want to try out and see if Netflix has it.

Kristi- I think you're wise to hold off pushing yourself any harder until your daughter is sleeping through the night. By that time, it'll be warmer and the days longer so maybe you can walk or run in the evening.

I work 3 days a week, and I remember how hard it was working 5 days a week. You just feel so burdened by the sheer logistics and planning.

I still feel overwhelmed in the evenings to get everything done for the next day: figure out what everyone is wearing the next day, lunches, backpacks, milk for the baby, clean my pump, dinner plans for the next day, gym clothes out, etc. I've stressed myself out just thinking about it.

I've started ditching some things. For instance, I don't have to make 'dinner' every night. Some nights we have cereal. Also, the kids don't get a bath every night. the baby gets a bath every 4 nights, and the girls bathe every other night. And that pump only gets cleaned every once in a while (gross, I know). I ask the girls to pick out their own clothes, and I don't stress if their outfits don't match (although the 5 yo wears a uniform, so she has few options).

Good luck. It'll be so much better very soon.

Kristan (FWIW, my kids are 5, 3 and 2 months)

Kristan, thanks for your terrific advice. It is reassuring to know that I am not alone in not being able to do it all. Sometimes it seems like all of the other mothers have it all figured out. I've also reduced baths to about 2-3 times a week for Alexander, at least every Saturday & Wednesday night, and Annamarie gets a full bath at least twice a week as well. When summer gets here and DS is running around playing a lot more outside then I'm sure I will have to up that number.

As far as dinner, I make a menu for 2 weeks at a time. It has helped me tremendously. During the week, the meals are quick and easy. Dinner is ready in 20-30 minutes. I absolutely love my indoor grill. It tremendously cuts down on cooking time.

On a bright note, I think Annamarie has established a routine. Since Saturday night I have been laying her down around 8:30 or 9 in her crib when she was tired. In the beginning she would cry, fake cry to pick her up, but on Saturday I decided to see what she would do if I let her cry for no more than 15 minutes. (She had already been fed and changed.) After 5 minutes of crying she was fast asleep. The next step was trying to get her to go back to sleep after her nighttime feedings. I thought letting her cry helped with the initial bedtime that I would try it after her feeding. Believe it or not it worked. Now when I lay her down she goes right to sleep. Hopefully I will be able to keep her on this schedule, which will mean I should be able to start to workout when I lay her down after I move her crib to another room. She is going to share a room with DB for right now. However, we could not keep her in his room because she would get up too often to eat, but now I think it is possible. Hopefully this routine is not short-lived. I guess we shall wait and see.

Well, I guess I had better get some work done. Have a great day!

Kristi you are NOT alone!

I worked out 3 times last week, which I was bummed because I so wanted to get in 4 at least, but it didn't happen...again. sigh....

I did:

Monday - my own freestyle lower leg workout 35 min

Wednesday- Pyramid Upper Body

Saturday - Pyramid Lower Body at the gym

and that's it - I just have to many other things I have to do, not to mention I'm beat at 8:30 and usually in bed around 9:00. I'm trying to get DD to sleep on her own, she only does about 3-4 hours a night. I too am trying the laying her down deal to let her get a schedule - hasn't worked yet, but she's only 3 months old so hopefully by 4 months it will click. I REALLY need that hour or two in the evening to get MY stuff done! Sigh, I work pt at home about 10-13 hours a week and feel beat from that - you work much more than that! Keep you head up and it'll get better for all of us! Here's to warmer weather comming our way soon (please God!!! :) )

Eta: I just orderd ME/BC!!! I can't WAIT FOR IT TO COME!!! I NEED to burn off this last layer of fat, not to mention I need to work on my abs!

Eta #2: I'm waiting for the better weather to get my cardio in more regular by running with a jogging stroller. So now I'm concentrating on strength, though I'm ready to change my rotation.

Melanie - I'm glad to hear you were able to lose weight without interfering with your milk supply. My DD sleeps from 11pm to 8 or 9am every night, so I am *full* in the morning. I usually wake up when DH's alarm goes off (5:50am)and pump one side for 10 minutes I usually get 5 oz. I'm storing all of the milk for either an emergency situation (one of us is hospitalized), or to use in her cereal when she starts eating solids. I love having all this extra milk on hand; it's very reassuring somehow.

Kristi - It's great to "see" you here! I can certainly empathize with your situation. You sound like you're going full-tilt from morning until night, and that's exhausting. I think it's amazing that you're managing to do all that you are, in your current situation. Annamarie is growing like a champ!! Wow! Kate will be 4 months old on the 25th, and I think she's somewhere around 14.5lbs. I'll have to weigh her soon and see for sure. I'm still exclusively breastfeeding, and will probably hold off on introducing solids until she's 6 months old. What sorts of foods are you feeding Annamarie? What does she like to eat?

Kristan - I've had to start ditching things, too - mostly housework. Babies just take up a lot of your time, there's no way around it. We just have to do what we have to do to make it work, right?

Julie - What do you do for childcare when you're working? I ask because I'm attempting to do the same thing, but have yet to be able to actually do close to 10-13 hours in a week. I'm happy if I get in an hour a day.

Well, Kate's just waking up from her morning nap, so I'd better go.

All the best,
Sandra
