Post partum check-in Dec 11th

Hi ladies! I'm a little over 2 weeks postpartum via CSection. I"m feeling stronger, but unable to workout yet. I have about 15lbs to lose after gaining about 35lbs during pg. Baby Jadon weighed just 5lbs 13oz & I had lost zero lbs 3 days post partum. Thank goodness I've lost 20lbs. I'm hopeful that at least another 5 or so lbs will shed via breastfeeding.

I'm enjoying maternity leave, but DH is driving me crazy. We're arguing a lot as we're not used to be around each other so much. It's challenging having two babes in diapers & Justin still wakes up many nights. :( Then I have two of them crying after me. :( I feel so pulled & DH doesn't feel he should have to help at night. Urgh!!!

On a positive note, Jadon is a perfect nurser & my best sleeper as of yet. Justin now looks like a giant next to his teeny brother.

I'm giving myself until Christmas---then I'm planning on easing back into workouts. That will be about 4 weeks postpartum.

I'll be looking for a double jogging stroller for this Spring. If anyone has a favorite, please share. I currently have a BabyJogger 3 & love it!!! :D Thanks :D

Hi Melanie. Thanks for starting the thread. Did you get a new van yet? I am 6 weeks post partum. I've been able to exercise fairly consistently, but only because my older girls still go to school even with me home. Last week I did basic step with the add ons, the step part of SJP, IMAX2 and cardio/weights.

Most of my weight falls off quickly, but the last 5-7 pounds seem to stay. FOREVER. Which is why I am now about 15 pounds heavier than before I started having kids. So I am vowing to eat better with hopes that will make a difference. My boobs make me look really big, and I am convinced breastfeeding makes me at least hold onto weight stubbornly.

I only work parttime, but my boss convinced me to work a bit from home in return for a longer maternity leave. SOunds good to me.

Gus is great, in fact the easiest of the three. The three year old (Audrey) is my high maintenance kid, but really can be a help. My five year old (Kay) is a great helper, but is getting a little sassy. Take care.

Kristan

Hi Kristan. Thanks for joining in. I was afraid I was going to be the only one!! Now, you'll have to remind me...how many kids do you have? You must have 4?

No, we haven't gotten the minivan yet b/c the financing is really high right now (about 8 percent). We're waiting for Toyota to launch a low finance promotion. Hopefully by the end of Jan.

I'm envious that you're working out already. ;) I'll get over it. Jadon is sleeping pretty much all the time. My almost 2 year old is DEFINITELY my challenge right now. When my 11 yr old comes home from school things get even more hectic for an hour or so. We're all learning to cope. :)

Hi!

Melanie, it's so funny how we're living parallel lives :) :) Our babies were almost the same day and weight. I was amazed at how the weight fell off for the first week or so, but now I seem to be stuck and hovering around the 10 pound mark... I don't know why, but I seem to be retaining water - puffy eyes, swollen fingers. Weird - didn't have any problems with this while pg, so why now? Bf'ing is going fairly well. I need to start pumping so I have a stockpile before going back to work, plus I need to get Gillian accustomed to a bottle. She's eating every two hours or so, though, so I don't know when to pump.

Anyway, with all the running around for recent events (birthdays, shopping, parties, guests, etc.) I've gotten a lot of 'activity' but no workouts. Probably a few miles of walking (have to park so far from the store these days!!) if that counts? I hate feeling so blobby!

Glad to see you both - after getting through the past months together, it's nice to have company on the 'return trip' ;-)

Sure I'll join! :) I already posted what I'm up to on another post. Melanie I have a Dreamier Design and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! DH (a much more avid runner than I) really likes it as well. It's extremely well made and doesn't look run down at all besides the fact we've had it for almost 3 years. Two kids is harder than one, but doable. But this is IT for me! :) I look forward to getting fit as well. I didn't gain much due to a VERY stressful pregnancy, but instead I'm dealing with way weak muscles from bedrest and postpartum recovery. The flab on my legs could NOT get firmed up fast enough IMO! I did KickMax this weekend, and saw how flabby my inner thighs where and was thankful DH couldn't see me in shorts! It's all for a good cause right ;) - wouldn't trade DD for the best legs in the world :) I also have inches to loose in the waist and around the naval, facia (sp???) to wait to firm up, a butt to get rid of the dimples that came with sitting on my butt... but hey I am a DD right now so that's something to be proud of right ;)

Julie, your baby was bigger that GraceNote's and mine & you delivered really early, didn't you? Boy, what a blessing you have to have had such a healthy & 'heavy' baby despite all the struggles you had. I"m so happy for all our healthy babies!

Gracenote, do you feel bad at all that your baby was smaller? I wonder if I couldn't have eaten better, or did something so he weighed more? This baby is over a lb smaller than my others. I'm so grateful that he's healthy, despite his 'smaller' weight. I know it's just Satan trying to rob my joy of having a smaller baby. He's so crafty in his ways of tearing us apart!!!

Julie, I will have to look at that jogging stroller! Thanks!!

Julie! Another familiar face! :) :) I feel like I'm 'home' again, and definitely looking forward to having you all for support as we enter the next phase.

Melanie - we have a Dreamer Design Ditto and really like it. It moves very well on our rural (no sidewalks) road and I could even manage to push it, fully loaded, up all the hills while pregnant. It's very well balanced, too, so if you have only one passenger, or a definite weight difference between the two, it still rides smoothly. Lots of pockets and individual canopies have really been helpful, as well.

As for the small baby, I have certainly felt the same tugs of self-doubt. The logical part of my brain says that it really isn't anything to worry about, but it's hard not to compare with other babies and wonder if it's somehow your fault (that would be from the OTHER part of the brain - the maternal guilt gland goes into overdrive as soon as you have your first child!) Small birthweight isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as they're healthy and grow steadily. Repeat that to yourself often!! On a lighter note, I only wish my baby had been bigger so that I would have had fewer pounds that I'd have to claim as my own!! If Gillian had weighed three pounds more, I would be that much closer to my pp weight ;-) Seriously, though, hang in there and enjoy these days, especially as the Christmas season is upon us and new babies are so much of a reminder of what it's really all about. :)

Wow! Both of you have a Dreamer Design. I will have to check that out. Of course here in Minnesota I won't be needing one for several more months. I am anxious to get back into running though, especially since I didn't get a full season with my pg and all. ;)

Gracenote, any idea how much Gillian weighs in at now? I"m guessing Jadon is about 7 lbs or so now. He fits into newborn clothes, but does not fit into 0-3 mos clothes yet. He's so cute & such an awesome nurser. You had a vaginal delivery, right? When will you resume your workouts? Just curious. It's all I can do not to take my step out.

When I went to dr for 2 week check up, they had a full sized mirror in the office. When I took of my pants and moved my leg, I could see my legs jiggle. Gross!!! I've always had such firm legs. So then I proceeded to move both of my legs to see if they would indeed jiggle. They did, along with my abdominal fat. Yew. Gross. Things have tightened up this past week, but I don't ever think I will forget that jiggle. I can think of it every time I crave another cookie. ;)

Oh, I don't think I have much swelling, however; I cannot wear my wedding ring yet & I have indentions on my ankles after I take my socks off so I must have some. PLUS I am a size D cup now!!! I can't believe it. I was a size B originally, then went to a C when nursing Justin. Now a D!!! I want my Bs back!!!!!!!

Yes I was VERY blessed, because she was born 4 weeks early! I was sure she would be a 5 pounder. She is gaining great and as of monday she is almost 10 lbs! She is still little, this visit (9 wks) she is finally as long as her brother when he was born. She is in newborn clothes, and her 0-3 is MONSTER HUGE! I figure she's gonna be little for quite a while.

Don't beat yourselves about your babies weight, it's not something you can really control. I gained 18lbs and 6lbs 4 oz was amazingly her! So as you can see it's not something you can be in charge of. I was stressed out in my pregnancy thinking I didn't gain enough for her to be healthy. The u/s showed she was in the normal range, but I was so worried it was wrong. I just had to lean on God, and He took care of her. I have no clue really why I gainned so little, I gained 40 lbs with Anthony! I ate when I was hungry but I think the stress just surpressed my appetite or just wouldn't let me keep the lbs on. Whatever the reason, we are both healthy and that is what really matters.

Was just reading over the thread and have a couple of comments. Melanie...you should not be allowed to look at yourself in any mirror until you are like a few months postpartum...I remember how depressing it was. It's really now that I have my old body back and you know I'm almost 2 years postpartum. Yikes. It does return!!! But don't stress yourself out about it for a while K????

Also...you guys shouldn't blame yourselves at all regarding birthweight. My word....when I was pregnant with our first I ate everything under the sun...good food, healthy food...actually any kind of food. I gained 60 lbs on my 100 lb frame and when the baby came out...I asked..."is he 9 lbs-10 lbs?" The doctor informed me that he was 5 lbs 12 oz. It was embarassing as I had gained enough for twins. You did a great job Mel and I'm sure the weight will catch up with him. My first plumped out really quick and was the same weight as the rest of them within weeks. :) :) :) You're a great mom!!!!

Noah is looking so big now and his birthday is in 9 days....he won't be a baby anymore ;( ;( ;( ...but he'll always be MY sweet little baby!!
