Post Holiday letdown...back to work

I'm so depressed. The holidays are over. Everyone's gone home. Back to work tomorrow. Ugh. Is anyone else suffering from post-holiday letdown? I hate this feeling. I am literally dreading going back to work tomorrow so badly that I could just crawl in a hole and not come out.

I love the holidays. The constant feeling of excitement and anticipation. The days off of work. ;) Now it's all over and time to get back to business. I don't think I can do it.

Hi Alison,
I know how you feel. The holidays are such 'high excitement' and then everything comes to a screeching halt and reality rushes in. I find that it helps to plan ahead for something special...something to look forward to. If it's the time off you miss the most then can you take a personal day at the end of January or beginning of February to visit with some family or friends or just do a favorite activity? I think you need to be able to look for a bright spot ahead to get you through the 'back to ho-hum blues';)

Allison, I know what you mean. This is my least favorite time of the year. The holidays are so fun and full of visits with family and friends that it is hard to go back to real life. It doesn't make it any better that my least favorite months are Jan and Feb. I hate being cold. I think that it's a great idea to try and plan something to look forward to in Jan or Feb.

Unfortunately I'm not suffering at all. I love the holidays but I can't wait to get back to the normal routine. I didn't take off during the holidays so going back to work tomorrow is no big deal.

Just think tomorrow is Wednesday so you'll only have 3 days of work this week.:)

I am with you all -- I am feeling really crabby and down today because the holiday is over and now it is time to go back to work. :-(

DF and I have a weekend at the beach coming up in a few weeks, so that is something to look forward to.

Allison, I hear you!! Its always around this time of year when I start thinking maybe I need a new career since I dread going to my job so much.

I'm always a bit edgy about heading to work after a break but I also look forward to getting back to some semblance of a routine. Frankly, I am quite glad the holidays are over and we are one more day closer to spring.

BTW, Alison, you might consider scheduling something fun into your day tomorrow so that you have something to look forward too, aside from work. I started planning little get togethers with the chicks, or buying myself a little something so that the day ahead wasn't all about work......

Allison, I know exactly how you feel. I love my job but really enjoyed the time off and spending lots of time with family and really and dreading having to get back to reality tomorrow. I have had so much and am sad that it is almost over. :( :( :(

I was going to post about the exact same thing. I've had 11 days off and I can't believe I have to go back tomorrow, *sigh* but I am holding on to the fact that the weekend is only a few days away. I have so many things I want to do in the new year and work is just getting in the way of my plans!:p Let's hope Friday night comes as quickly as possible. I'm going to plan an evening out with a friend. Maybe you can plan something over the next few days also.

Allison,

I was feeling this too. I have another reason for not wanting to go back...up until 12/31, I was allowed to wear denim to work...jeans in the cold weather are so nice, but now I am back to "career" clothes....and most of mine are more than a bit snug right now so my options are limited. BLAH! I'm going to dig in and get back in the swing of things though. I have to start working extra too, to build back the extra time I used during the holidays. You'll be okay. Maybe you need an extra day just for you? That may do the trick.

Allison,

I feel the same way! HOwever, my letdown is from having to leave sunny Marco Island/Naples yesterday and coming back to Michigan.

We had 80+ temperatures the week we were there and I exercised a lot (swimming, tennis, walking). It felt wonderful to be outside again! I fell asleep as soon as my head would "hit" the pillow every night!!! lol I absolutely love warm weather!

Then, the school district I work for decided that we should go back for 2 days (today and tomorrow) while the majority of neighboring school districts start back on Monday!!! Crazy....just to go for 2 days!

As was suggested before, maybe you could go away for a long weekend somewhere at the end of January/February. That will give you something to look forward to!!
