Post Baby Workouts

Hi everyone,

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and starting to think about exercise, etc. for after the baby is here. I would say I'm an advanced exerciser, and I've stayed very active throughout the whole pregnancy.

How soon after delivery, providing everything goes well, did you start back up again? I'm sure I will have to ease back into things...but generally, did you wait a week, a month, until your 6 week appt., etc.? Just curious.

Thanks!

Hi!
After delivering both of my girls I started easing back into workouts around 4 weeks. I stayed with pretty easy workouts until my bleeding stopped. After that, I kicked it up a notch. Once I started getting more sleep (because my babies were sleeping more) then I kicked it up a notch again. With my first baby I continued this intensity until about 9 months, then I went all out to loose the remaining baby weight...I was still nursing at the time and holding onto about 5 pounds. Using Cathe and P90x helped shed the extra pounds.

If I may be so bold to offer some advice... In the beginning 12 weeks, do not set any expectations for yourself. Workout when you can. Enjoy your workouts, but, enjoy your baby more. Just listen to your body - if you feel tired, then take a nap and skip the workout. There is plenty of time to workout. Also, finding time to workout gets easier as your baby gets older and takes longer naps.

Congratulations on your baby. Keep us posted on your progress and I hope to see you in the post-partum check-ins real soon.

Hi.

I was advised to wait until my 6 week check-up so that the doc could give me the green light before I started exercising again.

In the meantime though, I walked alot. I started when Joey was about 2 weeks old and went out almost every day w/him! My son was born in May so it worked out very well for me. I got out with him and got some exercise to keep me sane until it was okay for me to get back in to my regular routine again.

HTH!:)

Everyone has given you great advice.

I waited two weeks and tried Cathe cardio. Not a great idea. I had a fourth degree tear and felt like everything was going to fall out. I then did mostly weights for another 1-2 weeks. Then I started again gradually with low impact step (ie. IMAX 3 step only premix and Low Max)and modified higher intensity workout.

Best advice, Listen to your body and take it slow.
