Position of Baby

Today I had my ObGyn appointment. The baby is fine and measures perfect. However the doctor said "I am not convinced that the baby is in a head down position". I know that means the baby could be breech, but does that necessarily mean that I would have to have a C-section if she is? The doctor said she would know more later on. I guess she did not want to alarm me or cause concern in case the baby turns in the next couple of weeks before she gets too cramped in there.

The baby still has lots of room in there to move. If the baby is breech the doctor can also do something called an external cephalic version....basically the doctor attempts to turn the baby to the head down or vertex position by placing his/her hands on your tummy and making the baby turn. In the hospital that I work at we have some babies that turn and some that don't. If the baby turns you can labor as normal...if the baby does not turn then a C-section is needed. I hope this helps.

Thanks Fitness Jedi! I saw something on TV about that a couple years ago, I think it was one episode of TLC's show A Baby Story. I guess it is common practice now, isn't it? It is amazing how they try to manipulate the baby to get it in the right position. Hopefully the baby will eventually make her way into the down position. Like you said, she still has plenty of time to do so.

BTW, I like your user name. DH, and now 3 year old DS, are BIG Star Wars fans.

kristi,
i've been wondering where you were...glad to see you are back.
your baby still has time to move into the headdown position. i wouldn't worrying about c-section.

Thanks SunnyD! I've been reading posts everyday and trying to keep up with everyone. My workouts have been non existent due to so many factors so I haven't had anything to report on the check-in. The only exception workout wise is pushmowing the lawn for an hour. DH finally came home late Tuesday night and hopefully he won't have to travel again until the last week of August when he has to go to Iowa for a couple days. For the past 2 months DS and I have only got to see him on the weekend if that. It has been very hard on us all and very tiring for me since I end up getting up at least 6 times in the middle of the night to take care of the dog (she has the bladder of an old woman) and DS who just can't sleep through the night without at least 3-4 interruptions. Hopefully now that DH is home I can finally get some much needed sleep. I need a break so bad. I can't tell you how much I look forward to being on maternity leave and start working out again on a regular basis. I'll have to start back at square one when I do though.

Well, that is more than enough about me, SunnyD, how is bedrest going? Are you finding things to preoccupy your time? Jaden will be here soon. You must be so excited. Do you have the baby's room ready?

Hi Kristi,

There is still time for the baby to turn. In the meantime you might want to check out these two websites: spinningbabies.com and breechbabies.com.

Cheers,
Sandra

kristi,

bedrest is boring of course, esp. for someone like me who likes to stay active. however i know it's a necessary evil to make sure i am giving jaden the best chance at life. i was reading on babycenter today that if he were born now he has a 99% chance of survival with no prematurity problems...whew what a relief!
we have done alot to his room..i am just so excited about how it's coming together. tomorrow dh is picking up his crib and putting it together....i can't wait!!! thanks for asking about me...

I had to do bed rest when I was pregnant, I thought it was difficult but in the end it gave my baby enough time inside that when he was born, those weeks on bedrest seem trival. (My son was born 8 weeks early) now he is 2 and a half and you can not tell at all that he was born early. Keep up the good work and I hope everything goes well with your baby
