Portable Exercise Flooring?

I am in a quandry! As I was working out this morning, my husband noted that I AM going to wear a hole in the carpet at the rate I'm going! I'm wondering if anyone has found something that can be put down under the step to keep me from getting my shoe stuck in the carpet - blow out a knee - possible scar me for life? I don't know how I'm going to convince my husband (wonderful as he is!) that we need to install exercise flooring in the living room!!! LOL!! Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks-

Tricia L. sweating in S. Carolina!

Carpet

I work out in my living room, which has carpet and I place another big square of carpet over my living room carpet so I don't wear it out. (That happened to my sis-in-law.) Working out on the square of carpet has worked fine for me. I have not had any near accidents.

Where are you?

I live in North Carolina, where abouts in SC do you live? And, yes, I'm sweating plenty during these dog days of summer, too...

Greetings from Clover!

Hey Joanna!! I live in between two little towns - Clover and York. I'm not far from Charlotte, I used to work there until my husband and I took on self-employment! (I must say, working at home has done wonders for my workout regimen!) Doesn't this heat take it right out of ya?...but I'm definitely one of those people who love to sweat while I work out. I've actually opened the windows and turned off the A/C during my workouts! (My two boxers do not enjoy this time of day!)
I'm originally from Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.
(Anyone heard of Slippery Rock?) So naturally, the heat is extremely different!
Thanks for Posting!

What a great idea!

I'm ready to try anything! I just noticed some area rugs in the store the other day - I guess I need to go shopping! Thank You, Thank You!!

We'r pretty close!

I live in Mt. Airy, exit 100 off of I-77, usually takes 1hr45min to Charlotte. Maybe we could arrange a regional get-together for fitness nuts?!? Let me know what you think...

NC and PA

Hi--just had to respond when I saw your post. I grew up in Mercer PA, my dad went to Slippery Rock when it was still Slippery Rock State College. I lived in State College (home of Penn State University) from 6th grade until I graduated from PSU, and then I moved to Carlotte for four years. Now I live in Phoenix, AZ--you think its hot in North Carolina, try this place! ( my boyfriend is from Beaver PA).

flooring

tricia--
Maybe you could go to Office Max and get one of those things that fits kind of in front of/ behind/ under a desk. I wish I knew what they're called--they are big plastic sheets that rolling chairs can roll on better than they could on carpet. the bottom of them are kind of spiked so that carpets don't get ruined. you could possibly get one big enough, you definitely won't trip up on it. But... they might be kind of expensive. the only benefit i see over the area rug idea is that the texture would be better--more like a floor than a carpet. but, I just don't know if they are big enough. Check them out--we have one for our office.

Hi Tricia!

Greetings!

If you want to part with a little cash, StageStep has a piece of portable aerobic flooring that is about 4.5 X 6.5 ft dimensions - it is nice because of the shock absorbing effect - it is about $120 a piece - I've got two pieces of it in my basement and I think it has really helped my knees, and my carpet! The link to it is on this website - thanks Cathe for that!

I lived in Pittsburgh for five years and enjoyed many a trip up to Slippery Rock state park - remember a particular New Years Day falling flat on my fanny as we walked along the icy trail! Just one of those things! I now live in the Raleigh area of North Carolina - small world!

Cheers!

Hello neighbor!

Joanna-have you read the other posts? We have a veritable Cathe club all around us! This may sound really silly, but I used to feel like I was the exception, not the rule when it came to great workouts. I would show my friends/family a tape and get the look (You know -"I am not trying THAT!") I feel so much better knowing all you guys are around!!
A meeting would be awesome - I don't know much about what "attractions" are in the area, but wouldn't that be cool?

Tricia

Wendy, you win!

Aren't you the traveller? I just love hearing from people who "know where I've been", ya know? What, do you think, is the attraction from PA to NC? I meet so many people from "home". BTW, do you still talk about PA like it's home? I can't help it, if someone asks me where I'm from, I say-Pennsylvania!
Did you meet you boyfriend in PA, or NC, or AZ? I think we're everywhere! LOL!

I'm tempted!!

Hi Colia! I love your name, by the way. I get people all the time who can't pronounce or spell my name, does that happen to you?

Woops, I got sidetracked! The flooring you are talking about sounds like what I'm looking for. My husband is talking about putting an addition onto our house, so I may be able to have my own workout area! (Tell me girls, is that love OR WHAT!) Yes, he is wonderful!! I think I may try the desk mat idea until I can get my own flooring, but THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for letting me know I wasn't dreaming - there is a floor out there for me!!

PS - My cousin now lives in Raleigh (since January). She lived in Punxsatawny, PA. So I know I'll be in your area someday!
I laughed so hard when I read that you fell on your fanny - IN SLIPPERY ROCK! Yes folks, that is how it got it's name!!!LOL!!

Thank you Wendy

I think until I get my workout area constructed I am going to do this-I even have one of those mats in my house already. (Talk about putting two and two together!) So I can try it today - I'll let you know how it works!!

Let's do it!

Whereabouts are you from Charlotte and/or western NC? Maybe if we can figure out a place and post a plan, we'll get a group.

Joanna

travels

Pennsylvania will always be home, although I don't miss the rain. Well, make that I thought I'd never miss the rain, until I moved here and get more moisture from a dry sponge than I do from the sky! It never rains here! Supposedly it will at some point this summer, and I remember it did last year, but I'm parched!
I don't know what the draw is from PA to NC, but you're right--I was always meeting people from Pennsylvania when I lived in Charlotte, a town I miss terribly, by the way. I didn't meet my boyfriend there though--we met in college at Penn State, and somehow made it (long distance 6 years) and ended up here in Scottsdale! I love life!
Anyway, I'm glad you're figuring out the flooring thing--good luck

Hi Tricial!

So sorry if I spelled your name wrong! If you're going to be getting together an entire room then StageStep has all sorts of stuff that you might be interested in - carpeted vs. a more vinyl-like flooring, vs. the floating wood floor - we may do this as well as we are building a new house - but that option is much more pricey! They'll send you a catalog and samples at your request.

Hope your cousing is enjoying life in Raleigh - a little sunnier usually than western PA I must say -

Take care!

StageStep, Huh?

I just want to say you did spell my name correctly, I was just wondering if anyone ever got yours wrong. I think any name ending in "ia" is misconstrued at some time or another!(Just wanted to tell you no need to apologize - I don't ever want to make someone feel bad by mistake!)
StageStep sound neat, I'll have to check the website. (Thank you Cathe for having a link!)
P.S. - My cousin does like it in Raleigh. The funny thing is that right after they moved there was when you guys got SLAMMED with snow!! Oh, the irony!!!!

Not far from Charlotte

I am about 30 minutes south of Charlotte, just below Lake Wylie. I'll bet if we get a good place, we could get a nice group!!
