pore minimizer

Anyone know if there are products that can minimize pores? I've noticed the older I get the bigger they get :(

Me too. I hate my large pores. I feel like they make me look like my Nana. :(

I've done a little research on it & there's nothing that can permanently solve the problem. Nuetrogena makes a pore minimizing toner, it gives some temporary help.

Nothing can shrink the pores, but some products can make them look better.
It's important to keep them clean, so using a clay type mask once a week or so can help with that, as can exfoliation.

Clarisonic!

I feel like the world's biggest shill for this product, but it's seriously awesome if you have the dispensable income. I got it as a gift and it is my new favorite thing. I have (or HAD):

large pores
acne
uneven tone
combination skin

For reference, I'm almost 34. I was at the dermatologist pretty frequently and Retin-A micro, Renova, various antibiotics, etc worked OK for me, but nothing else did.

The Clarisonic is just an electronic skin brush. I thought it looked like a giant ridiculous waste of money. But it felt nice, and my skin felt nice & soft after I used it, so I kept using it, and in a matter of weeks, I saw improvement. My skin has never looked so good. Almost zero acne for the first time in 20 years, and what little there is only at TTotM. My pores are clear and look tighter, and generally my skin looks wonderful. Or at least, as wonderful as it's possible for my skin to look. Which is SUBSTANTIALLY better than it looked before.

Afreet, out of curiousity is it the skin brush or the products that are working. What I mean is if I buy the skin brush, do I have to commit to buying the products or will it work with anything. :) TIA

Try a primer...

If you wear foundation, you may be able to improve the appearance of your pores by using a primer first (like Smashbox Photofinish or Laura Geller Spackle). This will make your skin look smoother and fill in the ridges and pores so that your foundation will go on more smoothly (without settling in the valleys).

However, there is no way to actually shrink your pores. I use the Clairisonic skincare brush for daily cleaning and use a masque once a week. I really love the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. It leaves your skin beautifully smooth without dryness or irritation.

Hope this helps!

Thank you ladies! I will check all this out. Ho hum just another thing about getting old I guess. :( I do a lot of my workouts out doors. I use sun screen all the time but when I was younger, I lived on Guam for 13 years I NEVER used sun screen so my skin has paid the price. Kathryn, where do you get your enzyme peel from? Is that the same as the masque you use once a week?

Holy Moly this thing is expensive!!!! I read that it uses the same technology as the sonic tooth brush, . . . geesh I work for a dental office can't I just use a sonic care tooth brush on my face instead? Do you feel that this is something that you can use everyday? Thanks.

Janie! My eyes almost popped out of my head when I read this! I lived in Guam in the late eighties into the early nineties. I was in the Navy there! There are days I seriously think about moving back there! The laying out was the BEST part....the diving and snorkeling were close seconds! :)

Oh my gosh, . . that is when I was there. I still remember living on Guam with my 80's hair melting in the humidity. My dad was Navy too. To me it was a slice of heaven. Not that crowded like Hawaii. I remember hiking and finding secluded beaches and crystal blue waters with tide pools that had all sorts of sea life. I hear that it is so modern now and changed. I hope that isn't true. If I had a bunch of money I'd fly my family down to see where I grew up. I REALLY miss the food. The coconut candy and red rice, roasted pig. hmmm those were the days.
By the way love your dog. If I could have a dog it would be a german shepard.

Thanks for the furry baby compliment! They are definitely my babies. :)

I miss the Mongolian Hut! I ate there nearly EVERY day! When I wasn't there, I was on the base standing in line for the barbecue at the e club....YUMMY! I heard the same regarding the changes to Guam. They were hit with a typhoon a while back and the recovery include many modern changes. BUMMER! I guess hotel row is HUGE now. Wow, I really do miss that place...

Oh my the Mongolian Hut!!!! I bet we must have crossed paths. I'm hungry now! Yeah my friends that still live there say that the Hotels and taken over a huge part of the island and that it is now a huge Japanese tourist destination.

WOW somebody who knows the Mongolian Hut! How COOL is that? I STILL talk about that place. I have not found anything like it stateside. I am so drooling now.

It was a pretty big Japanese tourist destination back then too. I think it was cheap for them. I hated that I constantly saw Japanese stealing coral pieces from the reef...pissed me off. I was quite vocal in my younger days. :)

Yeah, . .I remember it being a Japanese tourist destination back then too but apparently it has gotten worse. I mean I remember the coral thing was just the tip of the iceberg all these Japanese corporations wanted to buy out the island and just bombard it with hotels. I thought I'd share. My good friend went back recently for a wedding and e-mailed these pictures of the island. It was really nice to see that not all of the island was modernized and that Guam still has some of the natural beauty that I loved. Enjoy!

I KNOW!! SOOOOO expensive! It's ridiculous. I got it as a gift, and I didn't know what it was supposed to do! So I looked it up online, and wow do I ever need to buy that person a nice present next year!

I do use it every day, twice a day. It felt a little extreme the first couple of times, but then I got used to it. I think if you used the sonic toothbrush, it would take too long!

I use a basic gentle face cleanser (Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Cleanser), not the Clarisonic products. I got some little samples with the Clarisonic, and they were nice, but I just used my regular face wash and still saw good results.

Two people who lived in Guam - how cool is that? ;)

Wow that is one REALLY nice freind. You know when it comes to your face, . . it is hard to not want to pay that price if you knew it would work. I would much rather spend that kind of money on a face instead of that kind of money on my hair and I know people spend that kind of money on hair on a monthly basis. The only problem is that I've spent all sorts of money on stuff that has not worked. I feel doomed to just have bad skin. I see stars like Nicole Kidman who have the most beautiful skin I've ever seen and just wish. Right now my monthly indulgence has been a deep tissue massage. I just may have to forgo that to get this thing. I have oily skin though do you think this would work?

Yeah, I know what you mean - it's your face, so it's the part of you that you really can't hide, and if you don't feel confident about it...it really affects your life negatively. Have you been to a dermatologist? I would say try the dermatologist first, if you have any health coverage. They have all kinds of amazing stuff that can really make a difference. I hate to be an enabler , but yeah, I think the Clarisonic was worth it. The only long-term cost is the brush head, which needs to be replaced every three months or so (they cost $25).

Since the brush exfoliates so thoroughly, you can't use "scrub" cleansers or you'll irritate your skin. I used to wage chemical warfare against my skin and it just got worse and worse. Now I use my gentle cleanser and a combination of salicylic and glycolic acid (all from Paula's Choice, which I heard about from someone else on this forum) and that's it. My skin tends to be oily and dry at the same time, so sometimes I use a water-based moisturizer.

I would hate to recommend something so pricey and have it not work out for someone. But I wouldn't have mentioned it at all if I hadn't been really pleased with it. I'm no Nicole Kidman, but my naturally terrible skin looks pretty good right now!
