Plantar warts

Has anyone had these? I think that my DD has them on both of her feet. If you have, what kind of treatment did you get, and was it painful, etc.?

Thanks:)

Hi Shelley,

First I would like to apologize for a snippy comment I made to you in a different thread. It was uncalled for.

Okay, I had a plantar wart when I was a kid (~30yrs ago). I had it cut/scraped off in the doctors office. It didn't hurt but was more irritating, I hated someone touching my foot. I bet someone here has a more recent experience.

Good luck,

Elaine

Hi Shelley,

I'm so sorry to hear about DD. Unfortunately, I did have a plantar wart about two years ago. I think I got it from the locker room at the gym. I bet DD got it at school, maybe in gym class. As you probably know, it is actually caused by a virus that you pick up through any cracks on your feet. That's why it's key never to walk barefoot around pools, public showers....etc. Sorry, I digressed there a bit.

I tried some treatments that the pharmacy had to offer but it was taking so long to get rid of, I finally went to see a podiatrist. Since I'm on my feet all day, it was very painful. The plantar wart itself was much more painful than the treatment though.

I would honestly suggest taking DD to a podiatrist. I think that would be the most effective way to treat her. They hurt like heck and they are so nasty and stubborn to get rid of!!!

The podiatrist will scrape and then use a freezing treatment on it.

Hope she feels better soon!!!

Thanks, ladies!

Elaine - I don't remember you being snippy, but apology accepted:)

Lisa - thanks for the info. She either got it at school at gym, or at the pool. I'm going to take her to our doctor next week and he specializes in foot stuff as well as being a family practitioner, so hopefully we can get them cleared up quickly:)

Shelly ,getting them cut out hurts bad.
Try this 1st.
Take castor oil and baking soda and make a paste . Put in on a bandaid and on the wart. Do this till it falls off.
Don't scrape it off it has to fall off naturally. If it gets sore skip a day.
It works. I wish i had known this before i cut one out. I had 2 on my fingers and they fell off.
It is supposed to kill it.
This is better than surg. I about went through the ceiling when he put the kneedle in my foot.
Try not to put her through it.

Boy, I wish I had known about that treatment!!! If it were me, I would definitely give that a try. Sounds much less painful for DD. Good luck.

I am going to try your remedy tonight!!! I have had them cut off, burned off & scraped off, those suckers keep coming back, I guess they love my feet.

How long does it take?

I used to get them when I was around 12 or so?
I just took a pin, sterilized by putting in a flame, and dug out the center. Nobody TOLD me to do it, and I didn't read it anywhere, it just seemed like a good thing to do! And it worked. Since then, I've heard that that IS a way of getting rid of them.

I've also heard that they respond well to placebo treatments for some reason. So basically, whatever you THINK will work, will work, like putting a piece of raw potato on them.

"I just took a pin, sterilized by putting in a flame, and dug out the center."

Didn't that hurt like the Dickens?

I had a plantar wart once when I was a kid and I dug mine out using a sewing needle in conjunction with a pair of tweezers. I didn't think it hurt that bad. I got the center out and it kind of popped as I recall, then it bled like crazy for a few minutes. I've never had another wart since then. I've alwyas been interested in medicine:p :7

The treatment depends on how stubborn and how big they are. I've had one on my toe that I just had to put on an acid cream and take I think pepcid for a few weeks to kill the virus.

They can return unless you get rid of the entire virus- that's why sometimes you need to cut them out and sometimes they respond to topical treatment.

Good luck, Sophie and Shelley!!!

Actually, no. The center doesn't seem to feel much pain.

It wasn't any worse than digging out a splinter, in fact not as bad as that (otherwise I doubt I could have done it myself).

And unlike Michele, I didn't bleed at all (maybe I didn't dig as far in, but it was enough).

I agree that the quickest method is to visit a doctor and have them removed in the office. Absent that, I have had success with the over-the-counter product (Dr.Scholls) application. One package comes with about 12 small paper-thin disks that are applied directly to the wart and then covered with a bandage like pad, also supplied. I think the directions say the pad combination should be replaced every two days, until the wart falls away. The negatives to this approach that I have experienced is that the pads seem to fall off on there own and I have had to devise my own taping scheme to keep them attached.

Here’s to cleaner lockerrooms and pool-side aprons!
