Would anyone have any good suggestions for a good Pilates workout? I wanted to start incooperating them into my weekly workouts?
How about the Pilates Ring...is it worth the $30?

Thanks -

I really love both MTV Pilates workouts. Neither one incorporates the ring, so I can't really comment on that. Both workouts have particpants of all levels so it is easy to see modifications and I think they are both really 'tough'. By tough, I mean you will really feel like you are working, not 'there is no way I can do this." I've seen great results(more definition in my legs and abs) from using both of these 2x a week for just a few weeks.

Also, with pilates in general I think it is really a you get out of it what you put into it kind of thing. If you don't really try and don't really consciously contract your muscles it won't be as effective. HTH:)

A second for the MTV workouts--especially MTV Mix, it is so much fun! I also like Ana Caban's pilates for abs.

Most every other pilates DVDs are the same workouts with variations in the order of the exercises.

I've never used the ring--when I want a serious core workout I use Core Max or do weighted ab work at the gym.

I recently purchased from Windsor Pilates the sculpting circle along with the advanced and beginner workout (they came in a package). I had her original pilates workout, and I must say that the sculpting circle adds alot. I love the use of it for upper body and inner and outer thighs.

a real good pilates ring workout is karen voights total body pilates, the down side is its minimal on upper body and abs but really kills the legs without having to do squats or lunges.

i got my ring off amazon.com, i believe it was from bodytrends and was around $15. its rubber coated with soft foam where you would have your knees(or inner thighs, ankles depending on your move) and its quite comfortable. keep in mind that amazon doesnt' sell it directly but i just felt safer at the time ordering it through them.

haven't tried any of the mtv ones(just not my number on the netflix list to get them yet LOL) but i do have a ton of winsor pilates, that i rather enjoy but not overly challenging. i also do a lot of caribbean workout pilates b/c they are only 20 minutes long. i have also done stott pilates, which is really good workout, but the instructer lacks a little enthusiam. HTH

Another thumbs up for the Winsor Sculpting circle, especially the advanced workout. It adds a lot to the usual pilates routine & I love the circle!! HTH!

Annette Bethel
My fav is Ellen Barrett but also like Tracey and Michelle and Ana Caban and Jennifer Kries (The Method 20/20). I purchased from Ross a dvd with 2 20 minute workouts. Not bad, especially for $5.00. I just couldn't get into Windsor or anyone else.

I also really liked Karen Voight's total body pilates workout. She seems to exhibit perfect form and I just feel so good after doing it. She encourages fluid movements - and it really helped tone my thighs as well. The ring is worth getting imo:) I also tried the Stott method and it was a little dry - but very challenging! Ana Caban is good for beginners I think. Karen Voight is more intermediate level but can be challenging for more advanced pilates.

Thanks everyone for all there suggestions!

I went and ordered the Winsor Pilates (w/ the ring) this morning, they had a special for $9.95 ($16.95 w/ shipping). It does come w/ the 20 min ring workout, but I would also love to get the advanced ring DVD as well.
I have also tried the Karen Voight and thought it was great. I had to modify b/c I don't have a ring as of yet, but I can tell you this one works your thighs great!! The MTV series is on my list @ Netflix to get!!

Thanks to All --Have a great TURKEY DAY
