Pierces - Ouch!

August

Cathlete
Hi there,

Okay, I've had the upper part of my ear pierced now for like what, TWENTY friggin years, and it still gives me pain to sleep on that side. x( x(

Anybody have this problem and how did you solve it (aside from taking the dang hoop out ;-) )?

Thanks,
August

I've had the top of my ear pierced twice and both times they never healed. After the first one, I waited an entire year for the stupid thing to heal and it never did. I couldn't sleep on it and it hurt all the time. I took it out, waited a few months and then had it pierced again. Same thing happened. I gave up, its not worth the pain. I got my belly pierced and it never gave me grief.

I have a hoop that is like a C hoop (there are two balls on the ends, one of them screw on). If need be, the side that is open can slip over my ear. That's how I solved my problem.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey, Becky, that's an interesting idea. When you slide the two balls on the ends back, it looks like you're wearing a hoop?

When I first got it done with a stud, I had a lot of trouble, so I put in the hoop.

Do you have any advice as to putting it in? In those twenty years that I've had the hoop in, I've taken it out ONCE, and that was only after losing to the dentist who told me to take it out for an x-ray  ...I remember trembling hands and lots of sweat were involved in the process. :-(

I'm guessing the advice for putting the new C hoop in is just "take a deep breath." ;-)

Many thanks!

Hey August! I have the same piercing and it took about 4 years to heal! And it still acts up sometimes...like when I'm stressed. I love the captive bead hoops, but can not for the life of me get them in. I freaked the day I realized I had lost the bead to my little ring....it had been the original. I have never been able to get another one in, so I use a corkscrew in that hole....kinda like a twisty hoop...with a ball at both ends. It is very comfy, and looks kinda cool. Someday I am going to get a new captive bead, and go visit a piercer and have him (or her!)put it in for me. Take care,

Donna

Hey, Donna,

Once I rested my head down on the table and the bead popped out. I totally freaked out, too. x( Man was it a pain in the butt to get it back into place! Or rather, it sure was a pain in the butt for my friend who had to put it back in for me!

So you're 4 years into your high pierce? Well, you can look forward to many more years of discomfort then! ;-) I'm not joking - I've literally had mine pierced for twenty years. Twenty painful years! You'd think I'd just take the stupid thing out. But I like it too much :p . It's fine and heals, then it's not fine and I can't sleep on it, then it's fine and heals, then it's not fine......you get the picture. Very clearly, I'm sure!

Debbie - feeling inspired to try it again? }(

I wonder if I can put the C hoop in by myself. Hmm.

August

I put the C hoop in myself. It took a little bit to make sure I had the parts lined up but after that, it was no problem. I haven't touched mine in 4-5 years now.

Becky

Thanks a lot guys!

I think I'll try out that C hoop. Cheers to good sleep! :p

With much appreciation,
August
