Personal Trainers--?

I was wondering if any of the Personal Trainers that frequent this board could help me out by filling out this short survey for a class I'm taking to prepare for the ACE Exam. :)

1. Are you a certified personal trainer?

2. What organization(s) are you certified by?

3. Do you work for a chain or a local gym (and if you wouldn’t mind specifying the name if it’s a chain)?

4. Are you an employee of the gym or an independent contractor?

5. How many years have you been personal training?

6. What supplemental education have you utilized to gain more knowledge about training (i.e.: books, classes, personal experience etc)?

7. What are the main qualities/experiences that you acquired that allowed you to get started as a personal trainer (/hired by the gym)?

8. How many clients do you typically work with in the course of a week?

9. How often do these clients typically train with you?

10. Do you create programs for them to mostly utilize on their own or do you work with them individually each session?

11. How much freedom does the gym allow you in training your clients using your own methods?

12. How much freedom do you have over your own work schedule (hours, time off, etc)?

13. Do you have any other work responsibilities at the gym other than training your clients (i.e.: working at a front desk, walking the gym floor, etc)?

Thanks, I really appreciate it. :)

1. Are you a certified personal trainer?
Yes

2. What organization(s) are you certified by?
AFAA

3. Do you work for a chain or a local gym (and if you wouldn’t mind specifying the name if it’s a chain)?
World Gym

4. Are you an employee of the gym or an independent contractor? Independent Contractor

5. How many years have you been personal training?
5 years

6. What supplemental education have you utilized to gain more knowledge about training (i.e.: books, classes, personal experience etc)?
continuing education workshops, books, classes, networking with other personal trainers

7. What are the main qualities/experiences that you acquired that allowed you to get started as a personal trainer (/hired by the gym)?
I taught group fitness classes prior to becoming a personal trainer.

8. How many clients do you typically work with in the course of a week?
5-6

9. How often do these clients typically train with you?
most clients - once per week; a couple of clients - twice per week;

10. Do you create programs for them to mostly utilize on their own or do you work with them individually each session?
I create a program for them. If I meet with a particular client once a week, they use the program on their own at least once per week; if it is a strength training program, I encourage them to do the program on non-consecutive days.

11. How much freedom does the gym allow you in training your clients using your own methods?
I use my own methods. The gym does not monitor my training methods.

12. How much freedom do you have over your own work schedule (hours, time off, etc)?
I create my own schedule.

13. Do you have any other work responsibilities at the gym other than training your clients (i.e.: working at a front desk, walking the gym floor, etc)?
Trainers are encouraged to do orientations for new members. We do get paid for orientation. The orientation is 1.5 hours and this gives us an opportunity to give the new member our brochures, flyers, business cards, etc.

Thanks! Project is all set now and you answered some of the things I was wondering about as I get started. :)
