Pentagenarians & Beyond! W/B Jan 11

Thursday...it's almost Friday!

Good Morning!

It is freakin' cold here...5 degress right now, and they say it will not get up to even 10 today...BRRR...

I go for the big squish this morning ( aka mammogram)... asked DH to go with me for some reason...I have been doing this for 20 years ( started at 35 with a baseline) and always went alone. My SIL told me she always has my brother go with her "just in case" she gets bad news. I never thought about it. Now with my MIL and John's sister, and now we found out that John's sister's business partner was just diagnosed with breast cancer, one of my managers has "suspicious cells" that she has to have removed...for some reason I asked him the other night if he would go with me. He said "yes of course", now I feel like a big baby...

No workout today...I slept better, but did not go to sleep untl 11:00 and no way was I getting up at 4:15...sigh...at least I am on day 5 with no sugar!

Josie, please send some of that heat this way! I agree with Garance, your partner is not really a partner any more...

Garance, you are right, we will be SHOCKED when we finally get those dvd's...

Linny, lucky you still had that dental coverage! Yes, I love my car starter..it is pretty funny at work when my assistant yells out around 4:55...START YOUR ENGINES! there are a few of us that have these...I can start my car right from my desk.

Joan, glad to hear I am not the only one on the couch at night! I have a resolution for this year and that is to get him to get this checked out..he knows his DR will send him to one of those sleep clinics to get checked out for sleep apnea which I know he has...( classic symptoms), and he does not want to get that diagnosis..

Stay warm ladies!

Hi Ladies,

I did PLB this morning and my partner showed up late, she missed the whole warm up and I did not rewind. I did not go to spinning class last night, instead I used my new treadmill.

I love it! I did 3 miles and felt great. It was also nice that I did not have to drive to the gym and I could check on my dinner while I was running.

I lost 1lb so far, I was very happy to see that this morning.

I'm trying to send you ladies some warm weather.

Have a great day!

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's bis, tris, and sh (30 min.) with 2 miles with Leslie for a total 60 min.

Now I remember why warm weather makes me feel lighter--because I AM after I remove 10 lbs of layers. At least there is no wind and it's sunny.

Had a good time at ballroom dancing last night. The instructors promised that they would spend some specialized time with us because we really do have the beginner's stuff down by now. When I said I wanted more tango, the guy instructor grabbed me and we just started the steps. LOVE TANGO! I think DH lacks muscle memory, because it takes him a little while before he remembers what he did the previous year. DH is a good sport about this because I love it and he just has a hard time. He starts looking at his feet and then is reprimanded by the instructors: "Look at your partner, not your feet!"

Tonight my summer dinner party--in defiance of the cold.

Josie, it sounds like your partner will not be able to sabotage your workouts anymore. Great news about the lb loss.

Deb, that's really nice that your DH is going with you for your mammogram. I think if I asked my DH to do the same, he'd look at me like I was insane. He has his own "female troubles" One of his cows keeps prolapsing her vagina, and he keeps pushing it back in. Sounds like he's getting a vet to sew her up until she's ready to calve. Sort of like a reverse episiotomy.

Stay warm you east coasters!

Hi Ladies:
I didn't realize how tough it is getting up at 5:15am is.I used to do it all the time last March and April,I quess I'm out of sync.Director's day off is on thursday so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out some answers.
Deb:Hope everything was alright at mammogram today.I hate having them done, afraid my boob is going to pop:eek:.Good luck getting that husband of yours to the md.Man can be so pig-headed about going to the doctors.
Garance:Sounds like you had a good time last night dancing.Did your DH get jealous when the instructor grabbed you up and started dancing?Mine would have. What did you cook for your summer dinner?I made minestrone soup with chicken caesar salad.
JoanC:Sounds like you and Deb are in the same boat.I'm so use to wearing earplugs from working nightshift that I just put in a pair if DH starts up.Can't hear any snoring with those in.
Josie:Congrats on your weight loss.I try to eat good ,than come home from work hungry and gorge myself.I feel so uncomfortable at this weight.I notice I get out of breath going up the stairs now:(
Torrow is another early day, have a great night~Linny~

Good evening everyone,

I finally got an hour in on treadmill.

Deb I hate to admit I haven't been to doctor in 10 years except for poison ivy.

Dh got the news today that there will be no raises for anyone this year. He was told earlier he would not get a bonus. It would be different if the company wasn't making money. Since bonus is about 1/3 of salary it will be noticable. Fortunately we never counted on bonus for living expenses.

TGIF!

Good Morning all!

No workout today...not sure where all my energy has gone..most likely it's because it is so darn cold that I do not want to get out of bed at 4:15! It is 4 degress here now, it was 1 when I got up...wow it's going up!

Josie, good for you for not rewinding! Maybe she will try harder to get there on time. Are you still working out in your garage? You should look into the I-Tread workouts from ITRAIN.com...they are great on treadmills, make the time go really fast.

Garance, I can see you tango-ing around...LOL. your DH is such a good sport!

Linny, I may have to take your advice and start using ear plugs!

Joan, get yourself to a DR! At least get a mammo and pap test! Sorry about Dh's company and no bonus. I am not getting one this year either, and also took a 5% cut in pay effective Jan 1. I guess it's better than no job. Scary stuff going on..

Stay warm ladies!

Happy Friday!

I have long weekend and will try to workout every day. My favorite spinning instructor is back at my gym and will be taking his class tomorrow morning. Sunday I will be doing ME and walking 3 miles after. Monday, I might sleep in and then run on my treadmill.

Deb, I have 7 cardio coach cd's that have been downloaded to my ipod and have used them in the past. I like the workouts and the time does go by fast.

Joan, Please promis us that you will go and get a physical. I have lost friends & family because they never went to the Dr. and when they did it was to late.

Linny, I hope that you get your benefits.

Garance, How was the dance class? My ex and I used to go disco dancing at least 3 times per week. We nevet took classes, but we used to practice all the time. My DH does like to dance and he is a good disco and salsa dancer. I told him that we should go out and dance at least twice per month to get our dancing legs again.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Nag, Nag, Nag

Just kidding. I made appointment for mammogram for the 22nd. Now do you see how valuable this group is to me. I've had 3 pap in my lifetime isn't that enough? I know, I know but each time I've found a doctor either I've moved or they have.

I tried lower body premixes from a couple of Cathe dvd's. Lots of squats and lunges. I think I felt it more with floor work. I'm doing the 3day split but with legs twice a week.

Dh is off Monday so will have to watch eating.

Joan

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did AOS Providence, including the 3 min. at the end with those overhead swings (he calls them snatches I think.), so 48 min. My younger son (who does training for athletes) says kettlebell workouts are training the body for explosive movement and the fast-twitch muscles. He's somewhat bewildered by the fad for at-home exercisers who don't need this kind of conditioning unless they suddenly want to become competitive athletes. But he says it's a great idea for me as part of my effort to cross-train. He also thinks many of the exercises are good for the core and may actually improve my abs--hooray. Maybe I need some explosive movements for ballroom dancing??

Joan, let me join the chorus of voices on getting a physical. Think of how you maintain your car--oil change, brake pads, tire pressure, etc. Surely you deserve as much maintenance as your car.

Linny, I pulled out frozen pesto from last summer, made a tomato caprese salad and a French apple tart from my new Ina Garten (aka Barefoot Contessa) cookbook, and linguine with the pesto, some rolls and olives with the salad, and vanilla ice cream with the tart. Martinis or Manhattans and white wine with the meal. Decaf coffee. DH wasn't jealous at all. Last year he just handed me over to the instructor at one point when I wanted to do the jive and he could not keep up.

Deb, I know how you feel about this cold weather. I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I gave myself a boring lecture about how I'm doing this for me, how exercise will make me feel good for the rest of the day, and blah! blah! blah! and then I got up because I was getting tired of listening to myself. Tomorrow is my rest day, so I have that to look forward to.

Joan, I love disco and salsa! Put on those dancing shoes, girl, and kick up your heels!

Back to my writing. This poet I am writing about I believe suffered from a sexual addiction. Anybody know anything about that? I'm going to ask my friends over in Psych for some insights.

Hi Garance,

You should call Michael Douglas. He had a sexual addiction. I'm goins to try and convince my DH to go dancing tonight. The New Conga Room opened just before Chirtmas and I would love to go and dance. You can go to Congaroom.com to see it.

This place is owned by several celebrities.

It's Saturday!

Good Morning!

Today is my "officia" rest day, so I am resting!...although I have been resting since Wednesday...sigh...We were up early as usual and went for breakfast at our favorite little Greek diner.. I love the place! The people are so nice, the food is wonderful, forget about calories etc. Now I am doing some regular stuff around here, and will meet my cousing to go see her Mom ( my aunt) in the memory care facility she lives in. Talk about depressing...

Josie, it sounds like you have a great workout plan for your long weekend. We do not get Monday off. I have never tried spinning. I will be picking up my cousin at her gym where she will be taking a spinning class.. she likes them a lot. I have an old regular exercise bike, what makes the spinning bikes different? I like I-Train better than CC because they go by real numbers on the equipment rather than percieved exercion..I am anal retentive in that way! Did your DH go dancing with you?

Joan, so glad you made that appointment! Good for you!!;)..now get the Pap done and maybe a colonoscopy? Then maybe we will leave you alone!

Garance, I think your son is right...the KB workouts are explosive type exercises, but seem to do a lot of people good. The only thing I don;t like about them is that I don;t seem to get much arm work, eg biceps and triceps. Shoulders, core, legs get the most I think. Count me out on any knowledge about sexual addition...Is Michael Douglas still alive? really I have no idea:eek:..

Linny, where are you girl??

Stay warm..it's about 2 degrees here right now!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I slept in until 7:30. My day off. Felt good.

Gee, I knew about David Duchovny, but not Michael Douglas. I wonder how Catherine Zeta-Jones is handling that. Maybe I will give HER a call. Right!

Well, Cathe sent out an e-mail saying they expect to have the STS dvds on 1/27 and they will begin sending them out according to when they were ordered. Since I ordered the very first day, I am finally hoping to begin STS in February. I guess I will have to start my testing. The first mesocycle is endurance I believe at some percentage of how heavy you can lift (70-80 %?).

I will check out the congaroom, Josie. Sounds glitzy, but then you are in Lalaland. Did you go dancing last night?

What did you have at your little Greek diner, Deb?

Good morning,

It's 40 degrees right now. Yea a heat wave.

I plan to get all the Christmas stuff put back in the storage closet today. I took it down last week but the boxes are sitting in my family room.

Dh is working today. I guess I should also in case he wants to do something Monday. He may have to work again on the holiday. He has a very stressful project for the next few months. He has to decide if it is better (cheaper) to outsource the production that is done in his factory. This would be 450 people out of a job. He is also working on a plan to reduce costs so that he could manufacture for less than the outsourcing. This could mean a reduction of 50 or more positions. Right now he is fighting some departments to keep them from hiring. It's the corporate office that started this and it is a secret from everyone else in the plant.
If he can keep managers (not under his authority) from hiring that would be one less person fired.

Sunday we need to drive 1 1/2 hours to see mil in hospital. She got another bladder infection and got dehydrated. I wonder if that is common with a catheter.

I walked 5 miles on the treadmill. It took an hour and a half but I got it done.

Joan
