Good Morning!

Well I finally got my act together this morning and got up at 4:15 to do an I-Tread...Wow..it really was hard, after no workouts for 2 weeks!

Yesterday I had all plans to do an upper body weight workout, when DH said he wanted to go to a local dog show to see the Wire Fox terriers. Well, who could resist that? So I said, I can do the workout when we get back...forget it! If I don't do it early and first thing, I never get back to it.

Garance:
I too was wondering how Jen was doing, with the hurricane and all. I wonder if she still checks in here at all. We had a wind storm last night that was pretty bad, but nothing like what others are going through.

Linny:
How are you doing?

Carol:
What's up for today?

Have a great day ladies!

Deb;)

Ike blows through

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Carol--

This morning I did Stepworks, an oldie but goodie (60 min.). Great choreography on this one. Yesterday I did 4ds all upper body (67 min.)

I don't know how things were for you up in Buffalo, Deb, but down here the temperature was in the high 70s last night, and the humidity was atrocious. Not great sleeping. Ike coming through with a final blast I guess. Good for you on getting in a workout at last! Did you notice the thread on the Open Forum about cancelling STS? A lot of economic woe out there, and today the stock market is taking another wallop. I wonder what the overall impact is on the fitness industry--gym memberships, equipment, etc.

I bet you are living the high life in Atlanta, Josie. Have another Manhattan for me.

Well, back to work here.

Hi Ladies:
Deb:Welcome back! Glad to hear you got a workout in.Don't be too tempted looking at those terriers;).How are K&K?
Garance:I got up this morning and thought I was having some baad hot flashes then my husband came home at lunch and said it was very humid outside.I quess this is the end of Ike.I have been sticking to everything. Those poor people in Texas, some won't have electricity for a month.
No lake this past weekend, rained most of the time.Went shopping alot getting things for DS's new apt.We find out today if he was approved for apt.I did change my Md appt to next week, since one of the tests takes 7-10days for results.I'd rather he had all my labs before I go back to see him.
Well I have to go in for a mandatory meeting this afternoon then home for dinner and then naptime before work so I thought I'd post now because I doubt I'll be able later.
Have a great night~Linny~

Is it only Tuesday?

Good Morning!

I was up at 4:00 again and did the "Up Only" premix from PLB. I want to start slow and this was perfect for me. I only do the weight section, no floor work ( which I hate).

It's pretty cool here today, and finally no rain!

I did notice that thread about people canceling thier STS orders due to financial issues. Does Cathe give you a 100% refund if you do that? We should have had the dang thing by now...but I won't go there..

Garance:
Yes we had the same weather Sunday night...rain and high winds. We were lucky ..a lot of people here lost power but we didn;t. I can't wait for STS so we can all start out together and see how it goes. I am not used to a whole hour workout...but I will set my mind and do it!

Linny:
The Double K's are doing well. Keegan goes in Thursday to be neutered....poor little guy! Did DS get approved for the apt? How is the job lately? Are you getting the help you need? Don;t you hate mandatory meetings?..keep us posted on how you are doing and the dr apts.

Carol:
I hope all is well with you ...

Have a great day ladies!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie,and Carol--

This morning I did Lauren's kettlebell workout (45 min.).

Good for you, Deb, on getting back into those workouts! Hey--in thirty minutes, you can get a lot done, and when STS comes, maybe you can break them down into shorter units to fit your own needs.

Hope that apartment works out for your son, Linny! That would be one less thing to worry about. Keep us informed on your medical tests.

Teaching Henry 4, Part I this afternoon. This is one of the plays with Falstaff, who is a lot of fun to teach.

Have a great day!

Hi Ladies: Just a quick note before work.
Deb:Yahoo 2 days in arow working out,Good for you.Better than me No workout:(
Garance;Hope you had fun teaching Henry 4.Heard from apt today they want a co-signer because son has no landlord history, also they think he should move into another building because it slipped their mind that a elderly lady lives below his apt.Its just one thing after another:mad:
Got to go~Linny ~

Ladies..It's Hump DAy!

Good Morning!

Today I did an I-Tread and thought my heart was going through the roof! I am concerned that the 2 weeks I took off really lessened my endurance. I-treads I did before at certain heart rates are showing an increase of 20 points at times...scary.

Garance:
How did Henry 4 go yesterday? Do the students like this?

Linny:
Why does an elderly woman living below make him have to go to another building? I can understand the co-sign business...will you be co-signing for him? Don;t fret too much about not getting in a lot of workouts. Right now you have to focus on your health and the upcoming Dr apts, test results etc. Sending (((HUGS))) and good Vibes your way!

Have a great day ladies.

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie, and any later posters--

This morning I did Cackle and Shriek (58 min.).

Take care, Deb, on the heartrate--are there any slower I-Treads you can do to build up your endurance?

Yes, I would say that students do enjoy Henry 4, I, because Hal (later Henry V) is something of a prodigal son who makes good on his plan to surprise everyone with what a great warrior he is in defense of his father. Shakespeare is developing the background for Henry V, who was one of the most popular monarchs, and that's the next play. We will be looking at some episodes from Kenneth Branagh's version, which is really fun. Some of H V's rousing speeches were given on the radio by Laurence Olivier during WWII to stir British patriotism.

Ahh, Linny, what is that old saying about troubles coming in threes? Once you get past this bad patch, maybe you will be trouble-free for a good, long spell. You certainly deserve a break.

Anyone alarmed by the stock market mess?? I guess if things don't turn around, I will have to work a few more years than I'd like.

This afternoon, it's L'Avventura by Antonioni--my film seminar. He's a hard one to "sell." As he told the abstract painter, Rothko, "My films are like your paintings--about nothing, with precision." We'll see. There may be a couple aesthetes in the class who appreciate how beautiful the images are.

Hey, it's Thursday!

Good Morning!

No workout today. The little K woke me up at 4:00 ( he knows the schedule!) but I did not feel like doing anything. My lower back was very stiff ( I think it;s our mattress). So I took him out then went on the couch with him and dozed until DH got up at 5:15.

Speaking of mattresses, does anyone have that Sleep number bed and if so, what do you think of it? Our mattress is about 6 years old, so I can;t say it's because we need a new one. I just never get a good nights sleep on it. I am tempted to try one of those Sleep number ones, but I have heard people have trouble keeping the air in.

Garance:
When I do an I-Tread, they give you speeds to use for walking, jogging and running. Some of them are strictly walking, but only a couple that I have. Anyway, I use these as a guide, so if she says "walkers, go to 4.0, I will maybe go to 3.7, and I keep that ration throughout the workout. I was getting to the point where I could keep up with her numbers most of the time, but now I have fallen back. It will just take a bit of time to get back the endurance. Do you have a treadmill?

I got the AOS Providence kettlebell workout dvd. ( someone gave it to me, I never would have paid that price).. Just previewed it last night. I think I need a lighter kettlebell!

Linny:
I hope all is well with you. Check in and give us an update. We are worried about you!

Have a great day ladies...the little K gets "snipped" today!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Carol--

This morning I did Chiseled and Ripped with Jari Love (62 min.)

Poor little K! Reminds me of when DH puts these rubber bindings on new bull calves. Their mothers are never too happy about the procedure, but DH has their absolute confidence and they never push him away. Nooo--I don't have a treadmill. I do my workouts in the living room, and I wouldn't have a place to put the thing.

We definitely need a new mattress. It must be over 10 years, which I have heard is the limit on buying a new one. I just have to light a fire under DH to go look and decide, but it would take a bonfire right now because he is so busy. Pigs are getting slaughtered this weekend. They are so different from cows. They don't seem to have any fear and just stare at this fellow DH hires from Vermont when he shoots them. Even the sound doesn't scare off the rest of them. Cows are a whole other story.

Ooh--you probably don't want to know about that. It's just that DH is refereeing, cutting hay and wood for customers, making calls to his pork customers on cuts of meat. Endless work for my workaholic DH.

Back to work here.

Finally Friday!

Good Morning!

No workout today, ( or yesterday :(), again the "lazy;s" have hit me. I will start again on Sunday. At least I got in 3 this week. Keegan made out great with the surgury. You wouldn;t even know he had it by looking at him running around and jumping on things etc. If only we could heal that fast.

Garance:
No, not liking the farm stories about slaughtering...I would feel awful listening to the gun shots, and visualizing what was happening. I know it all goes on and I enjoy the results, but I can;t think about it...I know that farmers are probably the hardest workers there are and I have a lot of respect for them.

DH and I actually went to a mall and tried out those sleep number beds, but were too cautious to try one. They say you can try it risk free for 30 days...well what if you don;t like it and want to give it back? that means you have to have kept your old mattress and box spring somewhere in the meantime? I have no place to put those...and if you did have a place, would they come back and take them away after 30 days if you did like the new one? too many things to think about..so we didn;t do it.

The weather here is perfect! really cold at night then 70's low humidity during the day. I love fall!

Linny:
Please post and let us know how you are doing.

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb and Garance:
Just to let you know I'm still here. I've been very sick last two days,I think its viral GI bug.I've lost 5 pds and am very weak,I'll try to check in later~Linny~

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Carol--

This morning I did Leslie's 4 Fast miles (music only): 50 min.

Deb: What kind of bed is it that you looked at? Are you able to change the firmness by dialing a number? Are they very expensive? Sounds like little K doesn't know what happened to him.

Linny: Hope you are feeling better soon. I am constantly washing my hands because there is always something going around with the students. Right now it's a particularly nasty cold that causes a lot of deep hacking.

This weekend is going to be beautiful and fall-like. Love it!

Hey Ladies...It's Saturday!

Good Morning!

Well no workout for me today, as it is my "official" rest day. I worked in our warehouse yesterday loading candles on pallets, and my lower back is kind of stiff. I thought I would feel a lot worse, so maybe all this working out and lifting weights pays off!:D

Garance:
Yes, the mattress we looked at was the one that you dial the number for your level of firmness. They are not really any more expensive than the set we bought last time. I wish I could figure out if it is a firm mattress I need or a soft one. I thought this would be the solution, but as I said, I heard some horror stories about the air leaking and people having to have them replaced more than once.

Linny:
Sending ((hugs)) your way..I hope this was a 48 hour bug and you are better this weekend.

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb and any later posters--

My rest day as well, although I like to think cleaning the house is a workout.

My guess, Deb, is that you need a more firm mattress. DH has back problems and was told to sleep on his back on a firm mattress. He had to train himself NOT to sleep on his tummy, because apparently the spine collapses in that position. I'm a side-sleeper with a rather extreme running pose--one knee way up.

Well that darn groundhog finally got into the garden last night and cleaned out the last of DH's lettuce crop. He didn't mind though, because there was very little left. Brought in more tomatoes for me and some butternut squash which I will make soup with.

This week it's Henry V and Fellini's 8 !/2, plus student conferences, full professor meetings and DH's birthday. So this afternoon I'm watching the Fellini film for the umpteenth time.

Hope the stock market doesn't do loop-de-loos again this week (cringe!).
