Good morning all,

Today I did STS # 1. I am going to try that undulating rotation that was mentioned here on the board. I really have to watch the chest stuff since I think I pulled a pec muscle in the last chest workout for Meso 3. Lots of house stuff being done today. I was a slug yesterday, so now it all falls to today...ugh. I hate when I do that.

Garance, very hot and humid here today. It rained last night and early today, so it like soup out there. I liked the Sarah Paretzky series too, but got away from it. I should go back and see which ones I missed. I finished the one "Guilt" from the series ( Dismas Hardy) although this one did not have him in it, it focused on the police guy, and cases he was working. I like how he does that.

Joan, you are an amazon! 3 STS workouts at once???

Cathy, even doing STS and then a cardio workout seems like a lot to me.

Josie, are you on the dunes today or spinning?

Have a good one!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Drill Max (75 min.!). I am doing a Timesaver tomorrow for sure.

Busy weekend with my sons, future daughter-in-law, and father-in-law and mother-in-law. Just my younger son for dinner on Friday night. Then they (dh and ds) watched as much of the Boston Red Sox and Yankees game as they could before going to bed. Darn A-Rod! I watched Gran Torino and liked it, but found the racial slurs pretty hard to take. Saturday was HouseMax, followed by a birthday celebration last night at a local restaurant. It was fun and fil enjoyed his 85th. He did 18 holes with his grandsons and hit 92, which is pretty good for someone his age.

It was beautiful on Friday and Saturday, cool and crisp. Today is cool and very very grey. It's supposed to get into the 80s this week, but also humid. I'll take it, though.

I'm a bit sad. My older son and his fiancee are headed off to California on August 26. I will miss them, but definitely plan on visiting them since San Francisco is one of my favorite cities.

Joan, I don't know how you can do 3 STS workouts in one day. I could barely get through Drill Max!

Deb, there is one with Wes Farrell defending a friend that is a really great Lescroart courtroom thriller-mystery. Have you read Thomas Perry's books? He has a heroine, Jane, who helps people "disappear" from life-threatening situations. She is another of my favorites.

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the irregular check in, my life is crazy about now. I always seem to be whining about something so here I go again. You know I have been planning 40th reunion. It was this weekend. Since dh was in Germany I was going to drive up with my brother and come back Monday.

Then I get a call from mother's doctor and she needs a breast biopsy. Since I wanted to get her in quickly I didn't drive up Wednesday when brother had to go back. When I finally got through to specialist we can't get in until next week anyway so I was going to drive the 5 hours Saturday. Then I realize that I have 300 miles on new engine and have to get oil changed at 500 miles or warranty is no good. So no reunion and I was really looking forward to it. I have to start babysitting Wednesday. On Thursday I need to take brother to Social Security to try to get SS disability. He is deaf in one ear and only has limited hearing in the other ear. He has not worked in a year and a half.

I am done complaining. You get to hear it so that I am nice and pleasant at home.

I'll bbl if I get a workout in.

Joan

Stormy Monday

Good Morning,

No workout this morning, There were storms through here all night, lightning, thunder and pouring rain. It went on for quite a while. John, the dogs and I were up for most of it. Had to run around and close windows etc.

Garance, sounds like you had a nice family weekend. The book I mentioned. "Guilty" is the one you mentioned with Wes defending his friend. It was a great plot and kept me wanting to read all the time.. I have 3 more waiting for me at the library. I will definitely look for the Thomas Perry ones.

Joan, sorry about all the stress going on for you right now. How is your Mom? You can complain here all you want...we all have those times. it's good to have a place to vent. Too bad about the reunion. all the work you did.

Hi to Josie & Cathy!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Timesaver #1--only 38 min. But it really felt good because it is super-sticky here.

We had thunderstorms here last night, Deb, but I slept through everything. I really loved that one with Wes Farrell. The heroine is Jane Whitefield in the Perry books.

Joan, don't feel like you are whining here. The way I see it, I deserve an occasional whinefest (and winefest!) at my age. It sounds like you are in the middle of two generations in terms of the support you provide--plus a sibling who needs help. That's a lot of demands.

Our tomatoes are at last getting ripe. Time for me to gorge!

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

ok, i did disc 23 and that is a tough workout. had to go down in my squat wts a bit. was hurting my lower back again. do ya'll find you have to go lower w/narrow squats as opposed to regular squats? i don't know, but , man i had some pain in the left side of my lower back.

anyway, very tired, so ttyl
cathy

Hi everyone,

I forgot to come back yesterday and post that I did get body fusion done.

Today (Monday) I just finished disc 36. It would be the last one but I still have to do disc 35. I just didn't feel like doing legs.

Has anyone looked at their 1 rm? I thought we could edit in calendar and that would change 1rm. It does change future workout cards but I have several listed as my 1rm's that are less than I just lifted on disc 36.

I don't look at calendar enough to do undulating sts. I think I will do mostly cardio for awhile and then do sts again when I get tower.

I hope you had better luck with your tomatoes than I have. We have had 3 or 4 ripe every day for quite some time but will not have enough to make salsa like last year. They were also a lot smaller than most years. I can't complain because I haven't watered at all this year. My bil is expert gardener and he has had same problems this year.

Joan

Tuesday- afternoon!

Hi all,

Sorry for the late post...I have had to go in early yesterday and today to do some interviews. Now that they are done, it should be better the rest of the week...crappy sleep, no workouts since Sunday..all the storms, humidity are killing me..

Cathy, I can go pretty heavy on the narrow squats.

Joan, I think you are correct, the 1RM changes don't seem to go back to old worksheets, but I have only done disk 1 over, so I will see how it goes,. I did add at least a pound to most of the exercises, I just re-used the sheet again so I could see what I did last time and try to add a pound or 2.

Garance, I did pick up the first in the Jane series by Thomas Perry last night at the library...

have a good one!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did High Step Challenge (69 min.). A real sweatfest here with all this humidity.

So far so good on the tomatoes, but apparently there is some kind of "late blight" hitting a lot of farmers around here with their tomatoes. DH seems to have lucked out, but we'll see. He picked about 20 today, and they are soooooo good. If you grow zucchini, I have this great recipe that is really low calorie. It sounds kind of blah, but it is surprisingly tasty:

2 lbs. zucchini
1/4 C. olive oil
3/4 C. chopped onion
2-3 cloves garlic
1 tsp. salt
1/3 C. fresh basil leaves

1. Julienne the skin of half of one zucchini with a vegetable peeler into thin strips and toss with 1/2 tsp. salt. Set aside to drain.

2. Chop onion and mince garlic. Saute in olive oil for 5 min.

3. Chop zucchini coarsely and saute with onions, and garlic, and 1 tsp salt for another 5 min.

4. Add 3 C. water and bring to simmer. Simmer 15 min. until soft.

5. Using a slotted spoon, take out the softened onions, zucchini, and garlic and put in food processor with basil leaves. Emulsify and return to soup kettle.

6. Serve with a few julienned peelings on top as garnish.

I plan on making several batches and freezing them. We have so much zucchini.

Cathy, I agree with you on those front squats. I have to go lighter, and I just cannot hold the barbell the way Cathe does. I hold it like Deazie.

Joan, I am waiting for my tower as well to start STS again. I'm doing circuits this month, and I have found this pretty challenging.

Deb, let me know how you like Jane.

Hi to Josie.

Hi Ladies,

I'm back! Today is my wo with Kevin and I know that I'm going to be a slug. I did not wo at all in Vegas and I ate and drank too much. I probably gained 3 to 4 pounds, I was afraid to weigh myself this morning.

I won $1800 dollars and plan on spoiling my GS's this weekend. My peanut is starting school on August 20th and I'm going to take him shopping for school clothes.

Garance, I finished The Help while I was in Vegas and I'm saving the othe book for when I go to Palm Springs next week. I will be there from the 19th through the 21st.

My DM and I are going to spend time together for my birthday. I will be 53 on the 20th.

Hi to Deb, Cathy and Joan.

Josie

Hi everyone,

Way to go Josie. I'm glad you came home with your winnings.

I need advice on wrist. I just made cup of tea. I can lift cup with right hand but can't tilt cup to drink. My wrist just gives out. It must be from disc 36 shoulders, biceps and triceps. Nothing really hurts. I'm going to put ice on it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Joan

Wednesday

Good Morning,

Well I slept a little better last night, but still turned off the alarm at 3:00 am, hoping that I could sleep until the regular alarm went off. I woke up at 4:00 anyway, then again at 5:15.

Garance, The soup sounds delicious, is it served hot or cold? How are the circuits working for you?

Josie, you have all the luck! Did you enjoy the book?

Joan, what do you think did it to your wrist? the bicep exercises? Is this the one where you do the forearm exercise? that one is a little awkward for me...So you can lift with it, no pain, but you can't twist it? I actually sat here with coffee and tried out what you described. I have had wrist pain in the past, but usually can connect it to some dumb activity I was doing. Ice is a good thing to do.

Waving Hi to Cathy,

have a good one!

Hi Ladies,

Workout went well last night. Today I will be spinning for 45 minutes. I did gain 2 pounds while on vacation, but I'm back on the horse now.

Garance, I loved the book and can't wait to start on your other recommendation.

I also have a good recipe for zucchini.

6 to 8 zucchinis
1 can of mexicorn
1 large onion chopped
2 tomatoes chopped
Chicken broth powder to taste

Put it in a pot and cover until the zucchini is tender then add grated pepper jack to taste and serve. This is one of those dishes that taste even better the next day and it is so easy to make.

Hi, Deb, Joan and Cathy

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Timesaver 2 (40 min.) from the Bodyblast series.

Wow, Josie, good for you on those winnings! Was it poker--or is that Joan's specialty? That recipe for zucchini looks good--a little more fattening than mine, but I guess you could go lightly on the cheese. I'll give it a try, since we have, as usual, a bountiful crop of zukes.

Joan, I seem to have pulled something in my hand when I was in the ocean with DH and he was trying to prevent me getting swamped with a wave, so I sympathize. It's getting better now, but for awhile I was having trouble writing. I'd say just ice it and give it a rest for awhile and then gently try to regain mobility. There are so many little nerves, bones and muscles in our hands it could be anything.

Deb, I am liking the circuits because I feel aerobically challenged on a daily basis. I felt kind of sluggish on STS--probably because I wasn't doing very challenging cardio on the alternate days--Leslie???

Hi to Cathy!!

of course, it took my brainy son to fix my mess up. but, now how do you get your name in color and a different font?
i did the firm's Calorie Killer today. and it is a killer.

Thursday

Good Morning all,

I will not bore you with my sleep issues, let's just say I saw every hour on the clock last night. Very foggy here, I hope the sun burns it off.

Josie, that recipe looks great. Is it like a soup or a side dish?

Garance, have you had any weight loss doing the circuits?

Cathy, love the "ticker" and your new sig line!

waving Hi to Joan!...

Have a good day!

Hi Ladies,

I did not go spinning last night. I had to go to the DMV and it was a mad house.
Today is my Kevin wo.

Deb, the recipe is a side dish. You don't have to add cheese if you want it to be low fat.

Garance, I won the money by playing craps and rullete. I also won some on the penny slots.

Hi Joan and Cathy.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did the Cardio and Weights premix from Bodymax 2 (70.5 min.).

Deb, I have definitely lost a pound, and it looks like I might lose another. So I am down to 136, maybe down to 135 if my scale keeps shivering lower. Who knows, maybe it's all the fresh veggies from our garden? I have been gorging on tomatoes and plums from our plum trees and other things from the garden--pesto, broccoli, zucchini, and now the eggplant is almost here. Maybe you should go to a sleep clinic like Regis did. He is now using some kind of contraption (C-pack?) to deal with what for him was sleep apnea. He is much more vibrant now that he is getting some sleep. I still haven't received my Physique 57 workouts. They are really slooooow.

Like your new handle, Cathy. Has it cooled off at all down there??

Sorry the RMV is such a hassle for you, Josie. Ooh--roulette is that spinning wheel, isn't it?

Finally Friday

Good morning,

I hope to take off this afternoon after meeting with a client aound 11:00. I would have taken the whole day off if it wasn't for that meeting. No workout, my leg was bothering me all night, I took 2 Ibuprofin before bed, and 3 more at 1:30 am. This is sciatica, I hope not from my back issues from years ago. I can at least say it did not happen because of a workout!

Garance, I really would like to do circuits and see if it would move this weight, but I can't get into them for some reason. I think it is great that you are eating all those home grown veggies!

Josie, how was Kevin's workout last night?

Cathy, any relief from the heat yet?

Joan how are you feeling today?

Does anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I hope the weather holds out and we can get some yard work done.

Have a good one!

Joan,
