The Gold Standard | Olympics | TIME.com

this is a link to the Time article about chinese athletes. I don't think this system would be able to pick people truly brillant at their own chosen activity. maybe it results in many medals but sad and depressing.

Some of the athletes have solid color rectangles, red and blue, on their lower backs. seem to be different coujntries, different sports, men and women. Anyone know the significance?

Good morning,

Work, work and more work, will definitely have to go in tomorrow, and most likely Sunday. Nice weekend, but it has to be done.

Off to get ready, will check back later, have a great day!

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style Back, Bis, Sh (48 min.).

Sorry about having to work tomorrow, Deb. Doesn't sound like fun, and I know how you enjoy your weekends.

I am off to Jacob's Pillow both tomorrow and Sunday and we're going out to dinner with friends on Saturday night.

Interesting piece on the Chinese athletes. Not the same, but we do have our own issues with college basketball and football. These seem to be pre-NFL and pre-NBA training with almost no relation to education, just money-makers for the colleges. Penn State was more interested in protecting their football program than protecting kids from a pedophile.

Deb, I always hated working weekends. fortunately retired people don't have to. hope it goes by quickly. can you at least sleep in a little later??

Lynda, how can kobe Bryant can be playing basketball in the olympics... what ever happened to the "amateur" requirement? plenty of schools have been accused of giving coddled student athletes a free pass, full tuition scholarships etc. makes you wonder how many assorted scandals could be uncovered if something as blatant as Penn State went on for 10-15 years. ticks me off sometimes when I think of my tax dollars going to support schools that sometimes seem more interested in great sports teams than in making sure the average kid who's paying the full rate gets an opportunity to get a good education.
I don't understand how the chinese system works. WHAT kids want to do... such a big deal here... is maybe not something chinese kids dream about? I don't see how you could go out in the countryside, pick young kids, and mold them into world class athletes. I suppose they have criteria. how do you pick great potential for diving, or gymnastics? . I realize some skillls and strength can be taught and developed but I keep thinking the child would need to want to do it. maybe not.

Good morning,

I am going in at 7:00 so no sleeping in, not that I ever could. I was up at 3:30 with Kylee, back to sleep, then DH got up at 4:30 took both dogs down so I got a little more sleep.
