Pentagenarians & beyond: W/B 7/26

Good evening all,

I did LIC today also but just premix 1. Yesterday was disc 31. I'm caught up but not doing wo in order.

I'm happy about losing inches, but I wish someone other than me had noticed.

Unfortunately tomorrow is the "big day" when dh will tell 40 people that after 5-20 years they no longer have a job. The only good news is that the remaining 200 jobs will stay in St. Louis instead of going to Mexico. The plant in Florida is not as lucky. They did no cost reductions and everything will be outsourced. Surprisingly enough the head of that plant is rumored to be the new head of out sourced material. I wonder where his bias was. He was the only vote on the team to outsource the remainder of the jobs in St Louis.

I will now selfishly complain that my 38th wedding anniversary is Friday and will probably be completely ignored. We usually have something planned but with layoffs and dh leaving for Germany Sunday he doesn't seem to be in the mood for anything.

I really think the plyo legs is what worked. I didn't think I was going to use that option but since I haven't been going what I thought was heavy enough, I gave it a try.

I know I am doing STS again in the fall but I think I need something with more cardio to lose weight for the next couple of months. BUT I don't want to lose my strength gains and my inches lost. I have no idea what to do next.

A Tremendous Thursday!

Good morning!

I just finished the last workout of STS! :D..Now to figure out what to do next week. It is so muggy here, it's like being in a sauna.

Cathy, WTG on the workouts! I don't think I had that Firm workout...is it all cardio?

Josie, good job on the weight loss. The rule is...never weigh yourself the day after lifting. Only the day after cardio. I find that the day after lifting, I could be up 1-2 pounds, then it drops right off if I weigh after cardio.

Garance, can you give me that site again? I am the same as you...I never got DOMS in my legs from STS, not sure why.

Joan, how horrible for your DH and those poor people. This country is going to hell...sorry for the rant, I will stop now. I feel like you on what to do next. I want to do something to lose weight, but am afraid of losing all the gains in strength. That is why I am considering that "undulating" rotation with STS ( I hate that name btw)..Maybe we can start that one together?

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Ladies,

Kevin workout today plus 30 minutes of cardio on the stepper. I will be picking up my GS's
tomorrow and will not be at work. Saturday is Kevin + spinning and I will be walking with the kids on Sunday at Venice Beach and then breakfast at Buna Cafe. Mickey loves it there and Alex just loves to eat.

Garance, The only thing that works for my thighs is spinning and running. Also doing the leg extension machine at the gym and the leg curl for my hamstrings

Deb, You should try and do the same workouts that Garance is planning on doing.

Joan, I'm sorry to hear about your DH. My DH forgot that my birthday is August 20th.
He was giving me his August schedule for work and entertaining clients and he said that he was taking a client to a ball game on my birthday. So I said, I guess I will be celebrating by myself and he said why. I told him to figure it out and to call me back later. He felt terrible as he should.

Cathy, How are you holding up with the heat?

Have a nice weekend!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did High Step Training (63 min.). Short bursts of cardio, tons of leg presses, and some pretty intensive weights. I was a puddle of sweat at the end--in part because it has been so humid here.

Deb, it's propertyroom.com. I do think these circuit workouts are pretty tough compared to all of the STS workouts alternating with, now that I look back, some fairly easy cardio.

Josie, I bet your dh gets you something really special for your birthday now that he screwed up. Guilt can work wonders!

Joan, that is just plain awful about losing all those jobs! Are they in manufacturing? I suppose that means a lot of people also losing their health care as well.

Cathy, I have stopped praying for rain, because it just doesn't go where you are. Instead, it stays here. Yesterday, we had FOUR INCHES OF RAIN. I feel like I am living in the tropics.

Garance , The individuals laid off get a minimum of 8 weeks of severance plus 1 week for every year they have worked for company. Since severance is paid weekly they will have health insurance until that runs out. The new cobra insurance that was part of the stimulus package only costs 40% rather than former 100%. Most of the people had worked for the company 15-20 years so at least their severence is 23-28 weeks. I think one individual got 48 weeks. (I think he was in his 70's). This is manufacturing but most of the job loss is in the supervisor, HR, IT,etc.

Back to babysitting I think I hear Elliot waking up from nap.

Finally Friday

Hi all,

It is finally Friday. I had a terrible nights sleep, so no workout today. At least it is only a cardio day, not STS!

Josie, I think for at least one week, I will do 3 circuit training workouts, and 3 cardio and see if that helps move the weight a bit. Your plans for the weekend sound great.

Garance, I think I have that circuit workout...I belive I have 2, one called High Step Training, or Challenge or something like that, and one has "Advanced" in the title. Thanks for the web site.

Joan, it sounds like the company is really trying to help those people. They are getting a lot more than some get.

Cathy, we had a sales rep up here for a client visit, he lives in El Paso. He was telling us about the heat as well.

Any exciting plans for the weekend? I am starting Keegan in Agility classes tomorrow. Can't wait!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's Cardio Sculpt (68 min.). I don't know if I will repeat these 6 workouts next week or dig out some more of my interval DVDs for next week. I found these 6 pretty challenging.

I am off to Jacob's Pillow tomorrow for a ballet company. It is supposed to be nice weather, and I am crossing my fingers, because it's raining again here today. We don't need this rain--it's causing tons of problems for farmers and flooding for a lot of people. Tiresome!

Joan, it sounds like your husband's workers are at least being treated well. It must have been very hard for him, though. A lot of unhappy people to face.

I am getting started on my next chapter, so I feel better. NO MORE PROCRASTINATION!

Let's Play! It's Saturday!

Good Morning!

Today I have Keegan's aglility class at 9:00.

Garance, sending good weather vibes your way for the ballet! It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here. Maybe we will be able to spend some time outside later on.

I want my supermarket to get this stuff:

http://www.myarcticzero.com/nutritionfacts.html....they sell it on Amazon too, but I would think you would have to be home to get it, since it is packed in dry ice etc.

have a great day!

Deb
