Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 7/22

Good Morning Ladies,

I went out to dinner with a friend and had a couple of glasses of wine and even though I got home at 8:00 I was not able to work out this morning. I will be doing my workout when I get home tonight.

Deb, I know what part you are referring to about the German potato soup ;) It does not bother me though.

Garance, I agree with your DH regarding you being retired. It seems that you are busier that when you were working regular hours 

Valerie and Deb, I had the same problem with numbness on wrists and the ring finger and pinkie finger on my left side when I first started to ride. It started to happen when I got into the longer miles, but a friend of mine told me to readjust my hands constantly and I have had no more problems. Also, during my first year of training for the ALC I was very tense and that contributed to the numbness.

Went to my yoga class this morning. she gave us a 'hard" move. (some things are very hard for me but this was just fun...) she had us put our feet on a blanket on the floor and slide backwards while in down dog. then pull feet back in. this was to make sure we used our abs and not low back to do the pulling. after doing burpees, mountain climbers, and all the other moves where cathe has us slide our feet forward and back on disks...well this was SO easy for me!! I did about 6 before anyone else had done one! One of those AH-HAA moments when I realized how much Cathe workouts have done for me.

I never saw Leslie but there was one blond lady who used to be on the exercise channel. Sharon something? she drove me crazy. jumped around like she was on springs and speed. Kathy Smith too. and the one dark curly haired guy with the women all in unison behind him. Israeli stud muffin?? can't think of his real name. it takes a special person to make you work hard without annoying the cr*p out of you in the process.

Josie I keep my hands moving as much as possible but the pressure gets them. sometimes more one wrist than the other. now my right wrist seems most bothered and before it was my left.

Lynda, ask your orthopedic guy his opinion about whether injections might benefit you. I don't remember what the compound is...Euflexxer or something like that? some derivative of hyaluronic acid. can't find the brochure they gave him. stimulates new cartilage formation. Even if it just delays knee replacement for a few years, it might be worth it. DH said it wasn't that unpleasant... just an injection that stung a bit. I don't knwo the cost either but insurance will discount it.

Friday!!

Good morning all,

Off today and meeting my friend for breakfast in a bit. No real plans for the rest of the day, or the rest of the weekend for that matter. Agility class is cancelled due to an event the club is participating in ...:Balloons over Niagara"...

NCCC - Balloons Over Niagara.

some of our club members will be there with a table, and then they are doing some type of dog drill team demo with obedience training.

Garance, glad the procedure was pretty simple, now for the other leg?

Valerie, I still say that to get a good series from Cathe for $10 a workout is a steal, even if you don't plan to start it right away. So those burpees, mountain climbers are good for something ! Good job, I bet they were impressed! They sure are tough to do. I think we are going to the bike shop tonight to get the odometer/speedometer, and a bell for my bike.

Josie, you still want the Spin DVD from my set correct? LOL about the couple glasses of wine and not able to workout the next day....part of getting older I guess. I am the same way. Remember what we used to be able to do? I used to stay out until 4:00 am on Saturday, from Friday night, then go to work on Sat at 8:00 am....unbelievable. That would kill me now.

It rained almost all night, my hydrangeas ( sp?) are actually smiling this morning...;)

Off to shower etc...take care,

we've had several warm sunny days, but today is supposed to be cooler, cloudy, some drizzle. sounds good to me! in the garden yesterday for a while and we covered the blueberries with netting. the robins ate every one last year before we realized we needed to protect them. there was a robin busy on them again this year but we'll get a few this time. my basil is only an inch tall. I bought a small pot of larger plants .. by the time mine get big enough to harvest it will be labor day! this is worse than usual.

Did a small leg workout yesterday in addition to yoga from total body trisets. didn't care for it. need to do the whole lower body section of it to get a better idea but didn't like the moves on the express version.

I'm one of the stronger people in my class. but I sadly lack grace and style. and hip flexibility. the cross legged sits ...anything where your legs open out to the side are really difficult. it seems more like that's just how my hips are formed not being stiff. I have flexibility in other areas but this has not changed since I first started and it's been about 5-7 years now. I'm much more flexible in other areas but the hips do. not. change.

Hi Ladies,

I will be on vacation again next week. I will be picking up my grandkids tomorrow; they start school the middle of August, so this is my last chance to see them before it starts. My peanut #2 will be starting pre-school. He is very excited.

I’m so glad it’s Friday, my co-worker has been bitching all week about everything, and she also has allergies and has been snorting instead of blowing her nose. It is so gross and I just can’t stand it.

Deb, I still want the spinning CD. I plan on getting my own spinning bike for my birthday.

Hi to Valerie and Garance!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the upper body premix on High Reps (39 min.).

Valerie, thanks for the suggestion. I will ask the orthopedist about it. I did try Synvisc maybe 5 or 6 years ago and that was a disaster. I was allergic to it and my knee just swelled up and was extremely painful. Went back to cortisone. Good for you on the new yoga move.

Deb, you always sound so cheerful when you don't have a work day ahead of you. Enjoy your long weekend!

Enjoy your vacation Josie!

Lynda, the older products like Synvisc were derived from "chicken parts".... rooster combs, I think. I know there is a warning not to use it if someone is allergic to eggs, or other parts of chickens.
DH mentioned something this when he was talking about the newer meds... not being derived the same way. Definitely a question for an Orthopedic person who deals with this stuff routinely.

Josie, you need sound blocking ear covers, like the big ones we wear when using a chain saw or mower. this is beyond just ear plugs! Have a great vacation.

Good morning,

Gloomy and dark here, like it wants to bust out and rain. Go ahead!! Please? We need the rain. I never thought I would say that, since I really don't like rain at all, but it has been so dry lately, everything is brown. I feel like Cathy from Texas telling us how dry and brown it was there.

Valerie, bought the speedometer and bell for my bike last night. I picked up the speedometer in 2 seconds, then took 10 minutes to decide on a bell. :).

Josie, Like Valerie said, get some industrial ear plugs, like the ones we wear when we are shooting..:) enjoy your vacation!

Garance, yes I am downright cheerful when I don't have to go to work. Signs of retirement on the horizon. 11 months to go. I promise I will not be one of those "counting down the days" people. At least not out loud. I always get annoyed at work when someone makes the decision/announcement and them proceeds to tell you every day how many days they have left. I have not made any announcement, or even discussed it with anyone at work. I will probably to that when I am about 3 months away from the date. I have to LOL when you talk about the cackling Leslie. I remember when you used to do her workouts, that was a while ago. I bet lots easier than Crossfire or To the Max?

I am supposed to meet my cousin at the track to run, but not sure if the weather will cooperate...we'll see,

Will check back later,

Deb, we always use speedometer/odometer. it's fun to see how fast you can go.. I've gotten to 21-22 mph.... can't imagine the tour de france guys getting over 30mph. that would feel VERY fast on skinny tires. I track miles... I like to improve my time and distance.

I did disk 13 yesterday, first one of meso 2. I ended up taking more than a week off since meso 1, but feel like I've been active enough. I did the same weight I did previously. a few times I'd noted to increase weight but I did not. I was tired by the time I was done but have no to minimal soreness today. funny how upper body stuff ( for me) does not cause much DOMS. I got more sore from the meager # of squats/lunges I did the day before. the STS segment was at least 10x harder. weird.
Yes Josie.. easrmuffs!
