Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/28

Good Morning Everyone,

I took a rest day yesterday. I did some housecleaning and organizing and got caught up on laundry. DH worked in the garage and washed his car.
We are up early today and are going to breakfast. I plan on doing a bike ride and workout later.

Josie-It's good that you got back from Greece when you did. Nice that you signed up for the ALC Ride!

Lori-That is very sad about Madeline. You are right though, that miracles can happen. It is good that she is trying to be positive.

Lynda-I'm sorry about your sisters. That must have been very hard for you to lose them both.
It's great that you can use the honor system. We couldn't do that here. When I first moved here from Iowa I learned the hard way. I was at the gym and had put my gym bag on a bench in the locker room while I took a shower. When I got back, someone had stolen my heart rate monitor strap out of the bag. They probably went through it hoping to find money or a wallet and just took the only thing that looked valuable. I never had to lock things up in my gym in Iowa. That's one of the reasons I started working out at home.

Deb-I'm sorry about your mom. Lung cancer is horrible.
I hope you get your drain fixed quickly, that is too bad it happened on a holiday weekend.

Valerie-we don't even use the remote garage door opener for fear of someone getting the code and getting in while we are gone. There are quite a lot of home invasions around metro Detroit and we don't want to take any chances.

well the heat goes on. man, day after day. there are no air conditioning devices of any kind to be found anywhere because this has been so hot so long and so unusual for here. it's a little like san Francisco... hardly anyone has 'air" because it's only this warm occasionally. some years not at all. we wanted to look at a portable unit. when we called Lowes / home depot, and ask for "appliances" the phone person jumps right in and ask if you're looking for an air conditioner. they are completely out and have been. one store got some yesterday and they were gone in an hour.
a heat pump removes heat and moisture from the air. it's all one unit for winter and summer.

had to leave for a while there. DH & I did a ride. a short one about 15 miles. very busy already, before 8. no one is getting decent sleep here.

wow... that is a lot of close family members to have lung cancer! I guess it makes us (people in general) feel better if they were smokers, but a fair number of nonsmokers get lung cancer too. obviously odds are much greater for smokers. Lori it's great she has a positive attitude. hope for the best and plan for the worst though. some people respond well to treatment.

Judy our doors don't even have handles to open them "manually" from the outside. we lock the door between the garage and the house (bolt) so if someone got in they would be limited. there is an alarm on the rest of the house. that's the kind of petty stuff that wears down your attitude and makes you distrustful. You think everyone is "nice" and just working out like you are, and then something like that happens to wake you up to unpleasant reality. It's why people take their bikes into the bathroom with them. why we will have to be WAY more careful with the GD opener if it's on the mower.

Deb, how unlucky for that to happen on a holiday weekend. I don't want to know what plumbers charge for service.
