Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/22

Good morning,

I'm back, workout done...I really like this DVD. It has great premixes.

Well, I spent 4 1/2 hours yesterday on the phone with Time Warner regarding their mess up with their e-mail. They deleted my Sent folder from Outlook, and in the process of trying to get it from their Web Mail program, deleted it from there too, so now they are trying to get it back from the server. Does it ever end? I wouldn't care except there is a lot of the dog club stuff on there that I need. Unbelievable.

Valerie, we are getting 3 estimates, I agree that this one is high. My cousin's friend is a contractor, and he is going to come to the house with him to do an estimate, and we have another one that should be calling this week as well. We'll see. I wish we could go away and come back with it all complete, like your painting.

Lori, yes Kohl's has a way of making you buy a lot, but you do get those $10 cash coupons, that make you go back too! I find that I forget that I have them, and they expire. :(. I hope your DH felt up to the Mexican food dinner and you had a good one! We went for Mexican food Friday night for dinner....brought home lots of leftovers that we can have tomorrow. YUM.

Hi to Lynda, Judy & Josie,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Silly me to think I was going to do some spinning after Athletic Training. I used heavy weights and the blue fire walker - at the end I was done! We ended up going for a nice Mexican dinner early evening and still had plenty of light to walk Chester 2.5 miles. Was a nice day.

Today the plan is to do Cathe's Live Hard Strikes low impact from Thursday's class. Al (from XTrain?) made an appearance and worked the entire class. Was sort of cool to see him.

We are going to home depot in a little bit to price out our fire pit project and most likely will order everything today. Planning to build it the week of July 4th.

Deb...which KCM did you do? I also need coffee to get me going!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:16).

Hong Kong Ballet was terrific yesterday--3 pieces by 3 different choreographers. A very precise ballet training and rigorous measurements and weights for the dancers make this troupe look effortlessly perfect in executing moves. The music was also terrific--Vivaldi and Bach for two of the pieces.

Valerie, I meant "Orange Is the New Black." I watched the first two episodes and liked them a lot.

Lori, I think AT is a real sweatfest. I'm not surprised that you did not do spinning after that one. It goes a little too fast for me at times, but I still do it occasionally. Hasn't this weather been fantastic?

Deb, DH has two batches of chickens now. One of them is well along in terms of feathering out, and the other is still in the chick/brooder phase. For some reason the hawks have not been around for a couple weeks, so the feathered-out group seems very laid back--i.e., they don't spend all their time looking up to see if the sky is falling (Chicken Little syndrome). When we had our roof done, we spent time choosing one kind of shingles we wanted and bought those separately, and then our contractor hired a roofer to do the work. We were putting on an addition to our house at the time. I sympathize with you wanting to be away. I grew to hate the omnipresence of workmen when we did that addition and renovated our kitchen.

Go USA! Anyone else keeping up with the World Cup? USA is playing Portugal with the famous Ronaldo at 5 today on ABC.

Good morning,

I did Walk Fit vol 1 this morning on the treadmill. Boy this one is usually too easy for me and today my legs were like lead. I think it's from the KCM I did yesterday, "Muscle UP".

Lori, did you get the prices for the fire pit? that will be so nice when you do it. Word to the wise, put a lot of black plastic or something under those bricks...we put in a whole patio of Unilock bricks, and fought grass and weeds coming up between them for years. I did the total body, 1 set premix from Muscle Up.

Lynda, maybe Max's presence helped keep the hawks away. the ballet sounds beautiful. Is Orange is the New Black on Prime? Although I have 2 more seasons to watch of VM. Really like it a lot.

Hi to Judy, Valerie & Josie,

Work, then late class tonight,

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did LLA (48:33).

Deb, Orange Is the New Black is a Netflix original series, like House of Cards. I don't get Netflix streaming, but I do get dvds from them, and I will have to wait for House of Cards and Orange.... to come out with their second season on disk, but I have watched the first season of House of Cards and am now watching the first season of Orange.... Max was only out with the first group of chickens and hasn't been out with the second group at all. It would be great if the hawks just decided it was too much trouble.

Last night's USA vs. Portugal game was a real heartbreaker with that last minute tying goal. Anybody watch? It was a very good game. USA plays Germany next, which may be very hard.

Good evening ladies!

Loved Cathe's Live Hardstrikes. Was a lot of fun. I did the entire workout using the heavy bag which really added intensity through out. I can see me doing this one many times.

Today at lunch I did about 30 minutes of Suzanne Bowen's barre amped bootcamp. Really got my legs good. I enjoy doing barre at lunch. Really gets the blood circulating. Tonight was a gym style legs premix. This did my legs in!

Deb...we priced and ordered every thing! I am really excited. Decided not to order the kit and will do it all manually. Home Depot makes it easy. They have a picture and tell you exactly how many bricks and size of the insert. Total with delivery is $256 (We do not have a truck) $200 cheaper than the kit we were looking at. We do not think we have to worry about the grass. We dug all the grass up 15 years ago and had the pool sitting on top of a sand base. Once we removed the pool we still had the big sand circle in the middle of the yard. We could be wrong but do not think anything will grow there. How did you make out with your emails? Did Time Warner recover them?

Lynda...we have not watched any soccer. We think about it but then don't. I hear Orange is the New Black is really good. I am the opposite we stream netflix but do not get the DVD's. Still have yet to watch the last GOT!!!

Hi to Josie, Valerie and Judy!

Good morning,

No workout this morning, late class last night. It was so hot in the training hall, no AC there.

Lynda, no soccer here, I don't even understand the whole sport, just that the players must be great athletes, and very physically fit. Max's presence must have made the hawks go somewhere else where it is easier to get their prey.

Lori, you are probably correct, and no grass will grow there after the pool etc. As for Time Warner I need to call them back. They have done nothing to fix it so far and I dread spending more hours on the phone with them. I don't have much hope that anything will be done. Now I have to get on the phone with Microsoft and have them fix the set up of Outlook mail. Time Warner really messed that up too.

Hi to Judy, Josie, & (vacationing?) Valerie,

Work, then home to relax and stay cool.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Hiit (47:00), and took Max for a walk after dinner last night.

How frustrating for you, Deb! I know what you mean about Time Warner. I feel like I am calling them every month about some billing issue. They are usually very nice, though. Things will probably get worse when they combine with Comcast.

I guess you had to have been a soccer mom to really get into the sport. DH was also a referee for several years over in NY. My sons were in incredibly good shape from all the running involved. They also started in kindergarten and the Williams coach had summer clinics and a travel team. When my younger son was in college at Gettysburg, he was the varsity goalkeeper, and we flew to see him play a lot of games. Very fun!

Lori, streaming is a lot more expensive than dvds from Netflix. I figure I have enough streaming from Amazon to satisfy my viewing appetite--plus all of the stuff on cable I enjoy. It sounds like you will have a great project to do and not too expensive either. Good for you working out during the lunch period!

Good evening ladies,

Today I did Cathe Live Step Hiit. Then took chester for a walk. It has been so nice here the past few days.

Lynda..I would prefer the DVD's also but DS streams a ton of shows. I really think he would cry if I cancelled! I would agree you were a soccer mom! DS played a couple of years but that was it.

Deb...you have had crappy luck with computers this past year. How frustrating.

I like working out at lunch as long as I can get it done in 30 minutes or less. The girls are starting to join in also so it makes it fun.

Have a great evening all!

Good morning and Happy Thursday!

We are on the downward slide towards the weekend :)

It has been really steamy here the last couple of days, and it rained a lot last night which we really needed.

Lynda, I watch the bills from Time Warner, creep up a nickel here, a quarter there,...they get away with it all the time. I can't stand them, but they are the only "game in town" basically, since they provide only internet and phone for me. No cable. I can't imagine what they will be like when they merge with Comcast. :(
I can see how following a sport that your sons were in would keep you interested in the professional version.

Lori, I'm with Lynda, cudos to you for being able to do a workout at lunchtime, and also at night! Also getting all those walks in with Chester. :).

Not much exciting going on here...coming home today and getting on the phone with Time Warner again. They never did what they said they would do...surprised? At least I have a ticket number to refer to so I don't have to repeat the whole story again to the next person..ugh..

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

Went o body pump class yesterday and plan to go spinning today. I need another goal in order to keep myself motivated. I looked at the MS ride in October which is a two day ride, but did not like the route. I have to keep looking. Friday will be one year since I retired, the time has gone by so fast.

Deb, we also have Time Warner, but so far we have not had any problems. Good luck!

Lori, I used to love working out at lunch time when I was working. It made me feel refreshed and ready to keep working :)

Garance, I was never interested in soccer, even though I grew up in Mexico. My brothers never played either.

Judy, did you ever get your Altra ($54.98)running shoes? There is a great sale at TheClymb.com.

Hi to Valerie!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Deb, sorry to have to tell you this, but this is hump day, not Thursday. What a rude awakening! Today it's a bit steamy, but so far this week's weather has been pitch perfect. Anymore roof estimates?

Josie, I am shocked that you are not a soccer fan because my colleagues who are Mexican are rabid fans. I actually am rooting for Mexico if USA topples. I was also a basketball mom, a wrestling mom, and a track mom. DH tried to get our sons into anything that would keep them busy and out of trouble, and not scrapping with one another. When they were not at a practice or a game or a match, they were taking guitar lessons or pestering me. It was so odd for me because I grew up with three sisters and except for one cheerleader, we were not athletic. My sons are still gym rats, and the younger one is an excellent golfer, while the older one is still running. I hope you find a new goal to motivate you. I just trudge along, hoping for no injuries and being realistic about what I can and cannot do--e.g, no rappelling for me!

Lori, your DS is lucky to have such a doting mom.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Good evening ladies...

This afternoon I did my workout blender of flex train and LLA. It is about 25 minutes and mainly uses the fire walkers then I followed up with LLA bonus barre. No workout tonight. For some reason I am really tired and may be heading for bed soon if I do not get a second wind. It's only 6:45pm!

Lynda...I wish my son was a Gym Rat! We did p90x together and I loved working out with him. Yes he knows how good he has it. I still pay his cell phone and fill his gas tank up for him once a week! The young guys at work crack up that I do this.

Josie...I know what you mean about having a goal to get you on track. What didn't you like about the MS route?

Deb...yes I do like my double workouts! To be honest there are times I do not feel like walking Chester but he needs the exercise.

Judy have you been able to do any of Cathe's Live classes? I really like these a lot. I believe I have done all except for one.

Hi to the vacationing Valerie! I am on vacation next week! Nice!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a good week so far. I was able to get a 3 mile run in Saturday afternoon. Sunday was YardMax, Monday I did STS Squat Rack Legs and a segment of Core Max. Tuesday I did 90 minutes of indoor cycling and today I did 70 minutes.

Josie, I bought 2 pair of Hoka running shoes and I love them! I am running pain free for the first time in years! They have so much cushion they are like running on clouds. I haven't looked at Altras but I'll check out that website.

Lori-So far I have done all but 1 of Cathe's Live classes. I really enjoy them.
So far my favorites have been Bootcamp and Total Body Weights. Tomorrow is all Step, and I haven't decided if I will try it or not. I might just stick with weights and core work and a 3 mile run.

Deb-sorry about your computer problems. I hope you can get everything worked out soon.

Hi to Lynda & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning, and today is Thursday!

Don't ask me why I thought it was Thursday yesterday...my brain is fried.

Josie, Retired a year already, how fast the time goes by!

Lori, so you stream the live workouts, after the fact correct? I watched a clip of the boxing one she did the other day, it was pretty good. I was surprised that the actual attendance in the class was so sparse. It was the one where one of the STS guys was there.

Lynda, wow your boys kept you busy. I agree with your DH, keep them busy with good things and hope it keeps them out of trouble. I am loving VM by the way.

Judy, I never heard of that brand of running shoes, I will check them out. I have so many pair of different types of athletic shoes, I need to stop buying them. I just got a pair of supposedly the best shoe for dog agility. They are really cute, even have a tiny paw print on the front. :)

Hi to Valerie,

Leaving early for Toronto today, spending some time in our office up there.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41:30). Ordinarily this is a fairly easy workout, but this morning was so humid I was really sweating through it.

Last night we got more than 3 inches of rain! Thought it was a monsoon coming down for awhile.

Deb, I think keeping the boys busy also helped when they went to college. Both of them said that being a varsity athlete meant that they had to be very careful planners of their time. No procrastinating on assignments. They both graduated magna cum laude and now have excellent jobs and are completely self-supporting, so I feel like we did a good job parenting.

Lori, did you get all of that rain?

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Go USA (they are playing Germany right now)!

Good evening ladies!

This afternoon was 30 minutes of Barre and this evening was Cathe's Live intensity step which I loved. It was the perfect length for me at 45 minutes. The step was intense and drill like. Nothing dancy more athletic. This is the kind of step I love!

Lynda...we did get some rain last night but I do not think it was as much as you did. I slept thru the night and never heard any rain whatsoever. It was just very wet when I left this morning. I can not wait for my DS to be self supporting. He is a great kid though. He is Straight Edge and all his friends are too...Straight Edge is no smoking, no alcohol and no drugs. He is very committed and I am very proud!

Deb...yes I stream later in the day and usually use the lower resolution. This works fine for me. I really enjoyed that boxing workout you spoke of. This is the one I did entirely on the heavy bag. Her attendance varies. The first was really lacking but it has picked up a bit.

Judy...the total weight live class is the only one that I have not done yet. As I mentioned above I really liked todays too. Actually I have liked them all!! I really think they have a huge fun factor.

Josie....wow! A year of retirement already??? That seems to go by quick. Good for you! I have a ways to go...:(

Hi to Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

Today my workout was Push-Pull and 1 segment of Core Max.

It looks like our home gym is finally going to be moved to the basement. DH is reorganizing things now that he has more time to work at home and we will probably start moving things downstairs this weekend. There will be quite a bit more room and am hoping to add a squat rack and/or pull up bar eventually. I also have my old spin bike down there already so I will be able to use it for cardio & weight workouts (like the new KCM Home Gym Intervals).

Deb-Hokas are awesome! I highly recommend them. I ordered mine from the Boulder Running Company, because they are kind of hard to find in stores.

Buy Womens Running Shoes Online | Boulder Running Company

Lori-I was afraid that Cathe's step class today would be too advanced for me. Maybe I will try it out sometime. If it was more drill like then I might be ok with it. The workouts definitely have a huge fun factor. Cathe is so motivating and such a great instructor.

Hi to Josie, Lynda and Valerie!

Judy

Happy Friday!!

I'm pretty sure I have the day right this time. LOL..

Long day yesterday. When I got back from Toronto we met my uncle that is here from Florida for dinner, then went to my brothers for coffee etc. etc.

Lynda, from what your sons have accomplished, I think you have done a GREAT job parenting!

Lori, I was surprised with such great classes, and being able to be with Cathe right at your own gym that her class was so sparsely attended. I guess if you have her there all the time it's no big deal. Maybe people don't want to be streamed live to other people? You would think she would need some signed release from them or something. She is making money from them.

Hi to Josie!

Judy, thanks for the link. I will check them out, ( not that I need any more athletic shoes!)

Work, then agility class, so glad the week will be over.
