Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/16

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit, premix 1 (49 min.). I also had a lovely walk with Max last night after dinner.

Deb, I use the tower for chest presses, but there is no way (I looked!) I could get under it for squats and lunges--I would have to be a midget.

Lori, after the recent flooding of their first floor, my in-laws put in a sump pump. Major problem: mil is really weird about noises when she's trying to sleep, so she complains constantly about this "improvement." Meanwhile, fil is pretty deaf and also has lung issues from mold and wants to get rid of as much moisture as possible and can't hear either the sump pump or the dehumidifier or the air conditioner, all of which bother mil. Sounds like they are in constant bickering over ALL of these modern conveniences.

Well, I'm not sure what I will do for legs next week. I really wanted to complete the whole of STS this time.

Judy, I have to have my morning caffeine fix or I get a headache. How's Tiger now?

Good afternnon ladies!

We are all in great moods here in New England! Two days of sunshine will do this. We have all been cranky due to the weather.

This morning was Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit. I think this one is 40 minutes. Tonight will be disc 30 Chest and Back then walk Chester. I am going to do a lot of fast fowarding to move things along. Poor Chester will be patiently waiting.

I am 5'2 and looking at Cathe's tower and I agree with you garance. Don't think I could use it for squats. I love the plyo legs anyways. :) Do you have any of Cathe's other weight workouts? I would just substitute that or any leg workout for that matter. Or how about repeating Legs from Meso 2? Oh and Max is adorable. Been meaning to tell you! Funny about your inlaws.

Judy, how is your kitty? Feeling better? Congrats on all that core work you did the other day. I really need to do more core/ab work. I am blessed that I have a small waist. Always have and I feel I take it for granted that is why I slack on abs/core work. I always feel great after I do them. I need to be consistent. Perhaps reading your posts will motivate me.

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Have a great day!

Judy hope your kitty is OK. I have a little gray kitty, Puss. not inventive with names...
cats hide things so well you never can be sure.

Deb, my mother would be in a care center if not for my brother. my sister can't handle it, and I was not moving back there to do it either. luckily he lost his job and is on disability retirement and this definitely gives him a purpose.

we did a garden day yesterday. loads of things to harvest... broccoli, snap peas, lettuce, spinach. cabbage and cauliflower soon.
legs needed a rest after 3 days of work. will do an upper body this afternoon. yoga this morning was pretty intense so already have in an hour.
I didn't think quitting smoking was easy, I just didn't notice any signs of "addiction" , so to speak, but it was a hard habit to break and uncomfortable for a few weeks. so used to picking up that pack! I didn't gain weight either but watched it carefully.

Lori try the Core 1 workout. it's fast and effective and no dread factor for me. I got to dislike coremax from doing it too much and still having problem moves.

My mothers house has a sump pump because her lot is downhill from the surrounding properties enough to cause water issues. the sound would drive me nuts. when I stayed there last time I was sleeping upstairs where it doesn't carry.
Lynda, I'm another one who can't sleep with certain repetitive noises. can't sleep with the furnace on because every time it clicks on or off it wakes me. things like that. luckily I want it cold at night anyway. can't sleep with traffic noise. I always carry ear plugs and a soft pillow I can put over my head.

My mother ( and father) were always on my case because I was the oldest. they were constantly riding me, refusing to let me do things/go places. I never got to any normal socialization / events in junior high or high school. One traumatic event in 6th grade the whole class ( 30 ) was going to a 'summer camp" place for 3 days and my parents refused. I don't know what happened but finally they relented. I think a teacher contacted them because they were angry and adamant about how I was NOT going, and for no reason changed position. if they refused and I kept asking, they'd withdraw other privileges as punishment, so I knew better than to keep on asking if they said "no". never found out what happened there. anyway, I turned out "normal" eventually.

Hi Everyone,

Tiger is feeling better today. The vet called me this morning with blood test results and it looks like Tiger is starting to have kidney problems. We are going to start feeding him a prescription food. I picked up a couple of cans at the the vet's office. One is "Purina NF" and the other is "Hills K/D". Tiger had some of the Hill's tonight and he seemed to like it.
I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but Tiger was a stray that landed on our doorstep 5 years ago. He is FIV+, so we tend to panic whenever he gets sick. We don't know his exact age, but the vet estimates 8-10 years old at this point. The first year we had him he was sick constantly but he has been pretty healthy since.

Lynda-I get pretty bad headaches if I don't get my morning caffeine too

Lori-Thanks, I've really been motivated to do core work lately. My goal is to do an hour of Cathe core workouts by the end of the year.

Valerie-I like Core 1 and Core 2, like you said, no dread factor. I like Core max, but there are some funny moves in it. I haven't done all of the workouts on that DVD yet.

Last night I did another core workout, Core Max 1 (no equipment) and Medicine Ball abs from Ab Circuits. This morning I walked/jogged 6.5 miles. The weather is so nice right now, I think I'll be doing most of my cardio outside for the next few days!:D

Hi to Deb & Josie!

I am so ready for a weekend and a couple of days off...
sun.gif
Let's hope the weather cooperates, although a nice steady rain and a good book isn't bad either..

Garance, maybe I didn't use the Tower, and used my bench squat rack, but I thought you could raise those side holder things to a high point where the bar is high enough to be able to back into it and put in on your shoulders...I could be mistaken..

Valerie, I am like you...hate noises going off and on...or even a steady one like a room window type air conditioner...sorry you had to be the oldest and take the brunt of the discipline...that is usually the way though, at least it used to be back when we were kids. I got away with a lot more than my brother, mostly because it was 5 years later, and because I was a girl. My father was a lot easier on me....

Lori, I can picture Chester sitting in the doorway with his leash watching you and waiting for you to hurry and get that workout done! LOL..

Judy, such a cutie! Glad he is feeling better.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then NOTHING! My favorite time of the week is Friday night after work.

Hi Ladies,

Just finishing up a few things here at work so that I will not have much to do on my last 4 day next week 
Tomorrow I will be doing plyo cardo circuit and on Sunday it will be cardio power resistance.

Lori, I’m usually soaking wet with every Insanity workout. I perspire a lot, when I do spinning I leave a puddle.
I have to lay a towel beneath the bike that is how bad it is.

Judy, Tiger picked a goof home. Have you ever tried the P90X ab workout? I love that DVD.

Hi to Garance, Deb and Valerie!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did STS disk 27 for sh, bis, and tris (67 min.). Last night I went for a walk with Max in this gorgeous weather we are having.

Deb, even on the highest rung, it's not high enough to get under with any kind of ease. If anything, I'd probably find a new way to injure myself. I think I will just use a less heavy barbell--maybe 37.5 lbs instead of 40--and see how that feels.

Judy, sometimes animals just know who to find. Tiger was smart. I found a very funny-looking stray in an underground garage at the U. of Minnesota when I was a student. Picked her up and passed her along to a friend (who eventually became a vet), who named her Brillo because her coat was such a funny texture. She was a very one-of-a-kind dog and my friend adored her, despite her incredible foibles--e.g., at 14yrs, she was barking at a 2 thousand lb. bull. Very feisty.

Sounds like you had a miserable childhood Valerie. I had some problems because we were pretty low income after my dad died, but I had a lot of fun and was in an accelerated class of smarty-pants kids. We pretty much bonded because we were all hooked on books and learning.

Off to Jacob's Pillow tomorrow for a performance by Dance Theatre of Harlem (Alvin Ailey's troupe, but several years later).

Good afternoon ladies!

Deb you are so right about Chester! He actuallys grabs his leash as soon as I get home. breaks my heart when I tell him "no not now". he seems to understand that means no walk because he immediatle looks sad. then he takes the leash and goes and lays down with it to wait! Animals are so funny and cute. Love him to death.

Josie..I LOVE the P90X ab workout (not P90X2 as I have not tried this yet). It is really the only Ab workout I manage to do. It is hard but I like the way it flows. I think that is why I do it. Same here with the perspiration. It is embarrassing for me at times.

Valerie...I will try the Core 1 and let you know how I make out. Sad about your 6th grade trip. Glad it worked out and you were able to go. Odd that you did not know why they changed their minds.

My Uncle passed away yesterday and I have decided to take the trip to PA to visit with family and go to the funeral. Will drive to NY and pick up my cousin then continue on to PA. It will be about a 6 hour drive. Leaving on Sunday and returning Wednesday. Will be a long few days. But I really want to be there.

Judy...so sorry about Tiger and glad that he is feeling better. I agree with Josie in that he has a great home and a great mommy. :)

Have a good weeking ladies!

It's strange my parents gave me so much grief as a chil. completely backed off and liked everything I did after I was independent. I wasn't like them at all and I since concluded that I scared them. we were raised in the "children should be seen and not heard" vein. It was such a relief when they decided I could go on the trip. I was terrified I'd be the only one not allowed to go. It was fun and the first time I'd been anywhere since they were terribly rigid and felt we belonged 'at home" all the time. .

Did Burnsets bi's and tris and core 1 yesterday. will do the other half today.

I don't sweat.... always think there's something wrong with me! I'm well hydrated but perspire little & have difficulty when it gets warm because of it. DH does the towel under the bike like you Josie, but I don't need it.

Lori, I don't think core 1 is that hard but I can do all of it. I get aggravated with a couple moves from Coremax that I either can't do or that don't feel effective to me. at least core 1 I do often and so even if it's easier it's still more beneficial.

so many kitties develop renal problems when they get older...

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did X-Train Bi's & Tri's with Core 2 + a few medicine ball sets. I have a 6 pound medicine ball but I think I'm almost ready to go up to an 8.

Deb-Thanks! Tiger is such a little sweetheart, everyone loves him. He is a people cat, very friendly and affectionate.

Josie- I haven't done P90x, but I will take a look at their ab workout. I also sweat a lot, especially on the spinning bike and running.

Lynda-Brillo was a very lucky dog, so good that you took her in.

Lori-so sorry about your uncle. I hope you have a safe trip.

Valerie-I talked to the vet and am going to put both our cats on the k/d prescription diet. Our other cat, Misty, is 12 and while she is pretty healthy, she had a couple of borderline high readings on her blood test last year.

Have a good weekend,

Judy

Good morning and Happy Weekend!

Lovely day here, going out for breakfast in a bit. Then maybe some yard work while it is still cool.

Josie, I wish I were you rignt now and counting down those days :)

Garaanc, have fun today at Jacob's Pillow...hope it's a good one. I must have been using my bench squat rack and only read that the Tower could or may not be used at a rack...

Judy, Keegan has been on Hill's U/D food for almost 2 years now, due to bladder stones that had to be surgically removed. Did they say what the kidney problems were? Will this change in food be temporary? Most of the time it is, unless it is what Keegan had...I agree with Garance, he found his good home. LOL about you typying that your goal is to "do an hour of Cathe core work by the end of the year"...hey, that is about what I can do..not you...:)

Valerie, strange about the sweating thing...how people are different. Your DH being a DR would know what is up with that? I guess it is nothing to be concerned about.

Lori, so sorry about your uncle, have a safe trip.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi all!

Been buzy running around trying to fit in all my usual weekend stuff into one day. Leaving tomorrow at about 1pm. Right now I am all packed and managed to fit everything in one very large vera bradly tote. ( Love my totes!). Very impressed that I was able to do this. I have a tiny Fiat so three people in this plus bags will be tight. Told everyone one bag otherwise extras will be left on the curb!

This morning I got up early because of everything I needed to accomplish...I was able to bump out disc 31 chest and back then immediately did RIDE then walked chester 2.84 miles and was done by 10:00am!

I have noticed some huge strengths gains with STS. Right now I am lifting so much more than I ever dreamed possible. Once I have completed thinking I may do the LIS rotation for a month then the 30 Xtrain rotation then on to STS again.

I packed sneakers and workout clothes with hopes that I will be able to fit in an insanity workout or one of cathe's HiiT workouts. I have a bunch on my IPad so I should be able to get a workout in somewhere. If not then that is fine. I can catch up when I get back. In this case....sometimes exercise needs to take a back seat.

Deb...I love going out for breakfast. My favorite restaurant meal.

Garance..let's us know how Jacobs Pillow was. Hope you enjoyed it. What did you end up doing for legs?

Valerie...a couple of the girls at work are the same way. Never knew how that was possible because I certainly make up for both of them. In highschool I was a cheerleader and had to wear dress shields under my arms otherwise once I started sweating the dye from my vest would bleed onto my white shirt. First time this happened it was so embarrasing. To be a 16 year old in front of the entire school with sweaty read armpits!!! I can laugh about it now but I was crying back then.

Judy...I have an 8lb medicine ball I plan to use whenever I decide to do that ab workout.

Hi to Josie!

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with me, just I don't tolerate heat well. I get hot and hotter, and perspire very little. I get warm and maybe a little damp in places but that's it for me. if it gets hotter, I have to slow down or throw water on myself to cool. no way would I ever need a towel!. Lori that's funny...I had forgotten about dress shields. weird things. that was a big varied workout to get in before 10 am.

we did a ride today, 35 miles. on regular roads. took almost 4 hours because of traffic, stopping to read directions. for some reason my wrists were bothering me today and had to stop and shake them out often.

you are all making me miss STS! I just know my time is too broken up for now to try to complete it.

I need to get a garment of some sort to wear to an afternoon wedding in Lake Tahoe in mid September. I'm thinking of a light dress with a sweater for evening. some flat sandals. I'll post some links... tell me what you think. this is a very casual family, second wedding, reception to follow at a golf course nearby. I'm sure men will wear jeans or chinos.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did X-Train Legs Premix 4, with the rear delt workout. This afternoon was mowing the lawn at FIL's. It was very hot and humid. I had sweat pouring off of me!

Deb-The vet was looking at BUN & Creatinine, which were a little too high. He said that can indicate the beginning of kidney disease or chronic renal failure. That is very common in senior cats :( I think the diet change is permanent. It sounds like the diet change is the first thing to do, then if the blood values get worse they look at other treatments.

Lori-you had a marathon session this morning! That sounds like a great combination of workouts.

Valerie-my mom never was able to sweat much either. I had a running friend who didn't sweat and she always had trouble running in the heat. I'm the opposite. I sweat alot, and I prefer hot weather.

Hi to Lynda & Josie!

Judy
