Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/6

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets premix with step (47:20). Took Max for an after-dinner walk last night for a couple miles.

Josie, that is so dear of you. Her name is Pamela Wells, killed on September 21, 2013 in the annual Granite State 100 mile ride. Her favorite color was purple. Just out of curiosity--how much does it cost to get an hour-long Chinese massage?

Lori, there are a couple recent bios of Jefferson. One of them is pretty harsh about him being a slave owner and famously fathering children with one of his slaves (can't think of her name at the moment, but she was very beautiful, and he took her to France with him and refused to sell her to some French man). I will have to give you a title for the battle of Gettysburg. It's a really good book. Talk about a bloody battle! I read it with my son when he was reading it for history. It sounds like you are also loving your new workouts.

Deb, how would you describe the 21 day rotation--does it alternate between weights and cardio with a day of Pilates or Yoga for stretching? There's also a recent mystery I read titled "The Weight of Blood." Very good--Southern Gothic.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

This morning I subbed in ruthless fast slow burn circuit for T25 speed 1.0. They are similar in structure but ruthless is a little shorter and I was running late. Tonight I had tons of energy and DH is working so I did gym style bk,sh,bis then ran on TM for 2 miles. I would say this was a good workout day. :D

Lynda...I would love to know the name of the book. Not only do I love reading about our founding fathers I may love learning about the civil war and more. Those poor men and boys and how they fought. I read The Life of Abraham Lincoln and when I finished I felt I knew him personally. Great book. Jefferson's slave was Sally Hemings.

Josie...what a beautiful thing for you to do to ride the 100 miles in remembrance. Very touching. That is unbelievable the massage was 60 minutes. You would get a 5 minute massage around here for 25 bucks! Thoughts and prayers to you and your family with the passing of your uncle.

Deb....I had no idea either about the peroxide and seizures until they mentioned it. And she did have a seizure just not at the same time thankfully. I have never done Pilates. P90x3 has it in the rotation but I have yet to do it. I am liking Dreambody so far. I have only done one but previewed the others and know I will love them all.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a hectic week here. Things going on with FIL. He is in the hospital now (long story short-he went for a drive in the middle of the night and had a minor accident, he is ok, but he has no idea what happened or why he was out) He will be moving to Assisted Living within a few days. What a week. DH and I have been up since 3:00 AM. The main thing is that FIL is safe and will now stay that way.

I managed to get a workout in today too, I did KCM Shape Up. I really like her workouts. She is my second favorite instructor now, next to Cathe.

Josie-that is wonderful that you are doing the ride in her memory!
So very sorry about your uncle.

Hi to Deb, Lynda, Valerie & Lori,

Judy

Good morning,

I didn't sleep well so did not work out this morning. I do find that the Pilates yesterday may have helped me a lot. My usual aches in my knees and hip are not here this morning.

Josie, thoughts with you and your family. A sad time. That is so nice to dedicate part of your ride to Lynda's SIL.

Lynda, the workouts for the 21 day are cardio & weights, just cardio, upper body, lower body, Pilates, there is a yoga one which I have not previewed. BB coaches throw in a bonus Plyo one that I have not opened, not sure if I will or may sell it on Ebay. I did look at it on YouTube and there is the modifier so I may decide to keep and do with the modifier. In my opinion, they are not as difficult as Cathe, probably because they are only 30 minutes, and the moves are compound type. Those that are used to Cathe style may find these too easy, or just not intense enough. I would say they are more like KCM. If you are interested to actually see them, you can look at on You Tube. It's usually someone that has the series showing how they do them etc. That book sounds good, I will put it on my list, thanks.

Lori, what type of workouts are Dreambody? Is it a 90 day or some type of rotation?

Judy, so glad your FIL is ok! I guess the good thing is that this shows he cannot stay alone any longer and will be safe in the AL place now. Is this the one that is close your you?

Work, then agility class. So glad it's Friday.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Supercuts (55:56). Hate those sit-outs--tougher than I remember.

Judy, perhaps this incident with your FIL, scary as it sounds, will ultimately lead to closure on assisted living. I bet you are so grateful there was no terrible injury. Does your FIL take Ambien by any chance? I've heard of people sleepwalking and raiding the refrigerator, going for a drive, with no consciousness of what they did because of Ambien.

Lori, the Gettysburg book is Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels. If you look it up at Amazon, it is described as a historical novel, but also as probably the most revelatory of books about the generals and a couple of really terrible battles--Pickett's Charge and Round Top. Won the Pulitzer. My younger son went to Gettysburg college, so we did the tour a couple times. Really fascinating. Yes, Sally Hemmings. Apparently Jefferson's wife, when she died, made him promise not to marry again.

Deb, I will take a look at You Tube. Sounds like the right mix of workouts for a great rotation.

Josie, my BIl Tom Rogers is on Facebook and has a lot of stuff about Pam, and a lot of pictures. I will let him know about your beautiful good deed when the ride happens. She trained so hard, like you, for the 100 miles and had just done a 70 mile ride the previous weekend.

Hi to Valerie!

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday morning was T25 total body. Did not workout when I came home. DS was home for a visit.

Looks really nice today and tomorrow so walking chester will be on the agenda!

Lynda..I bought Killers and Angels for my kindle and also on audible. Thanks for the referral. I love that I can continue where I left off on either device with Amazon's whispersync. On my commute to work or walking chester I listen to books...then home will pick up on my kindle where I left off...or on my Iphone or Ipad. Love this.

Deb...total fitness has clips on Dreambody. I have the Dreambody cardio which is a 5 disc set. They are advanced and remind me of old school aerobics updated to the current times. A lot of jumping. But I like this.

Judy...very scary about your FIL. Glad he will be safe and going into the assisted living soon.

No plans for the weekend other than dinner with DS tonight. My DH is working late tonight and I have a groupon about to expire at a really nice restaurant so my date for this evening is my DS!

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

Good morning,

Slept in until 5:30 this morning and it felt great. Then we went for breakfast, and I am getting my nails done at 10:00. After that, it's a visit with my friend for coffee, and HouseMax the rest of the weekend. I can't believe Easter is only a week away. We are having our usual family brunch.

Lynda, I did Super Cuts not too long ago but don't remember sit-outs. Maybe they are not in the premix I do. Cathe does a lot of hard core stuff in her workouts. You might find the BB workouts too easy. I like them for some reason, probably because with the hip and knee stuff going on, my flexibility has decreased and I find a lot of the moves either too fast, or you have to get into too many difficult positions to do. Like those banana roll things she does.

Lori, your weekend plans sound great! Love cashing in on coupons before they expire! You almost feel like you have accomplished a feat of some kind. :)

Hi to Josie, Judy and Valerie,

Take care,
