Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/19

HI Ladies,

Feeling 80% better and I will not be working out until I get back from NYC. I found the ZICAM melt aways and got some for the next time.
I will be prepared :)

Lori, I keep watching the 21 day fix information and I have been tempted to get it. I still have Christmas money and I need something to help me with the food portions. Glad that its working for you.

Deb, my sleep has been off also. I think its because my DH is not here.

Judy, glad that you feel better and are back to the challenging workouts.

Valerie, hope that the critters don't get back in.

Hi to Lynda!

Josie

Hi Everyone,

Today I got an email survey about my doctor's visit last week. I completed it and explained what my visit was like and that I was disappointed and had been expecting a better experience since he came so highly recommended. I did it in a very polite way hoping that it will be taken seriously. I am supposed to get an ultrasound next week but I doubt that I will go back to see him about it. Hopefully I can just get the results.

I did my Core Max/Turbo Barre combo again today. Tomorrow I have jury duty at the local courthouse.

Josie-Glad you are feeling better!

Deb-sorry about Keegan :(

Hope everyone has a great night!

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Today was another no workout day at lunch for me. :(. The ladies did workout but I needed to help my mailroom person with the heavy Wednesday packages. She hurt her back and is on light duty until further notice. Tomorrow we are trying out the Plyo one so I really hope I am able to join in. Tonight I did Cathe Live Butts and Gutts so I did get a great workout in.

Deb...the ladies all seem to be happy with how they are feeling. One has lost a few pounds and the others like me have not weighed themselves. They all feel they have tons of energy which is great. There is a total of 10 doing the meal plan but only six (including me) doing both plan and workouts. So far it has been fun. Hope Keegan is feeling better. I hear you about getting them to tile! We do the same thing. Sometimes we make it sometimes not.

Lynda...that is great about the college and Earth Day. I could never go without coffee in the morning. Love it toooooo much!!!! DH is home tomorrow so hoping he will notice a little difference in me and get excited about the diet. I swear I have lost 5lbs. Of course I am guessing based on how my clothes feel.

Judy...glad you filled out that survey. Let us know if they respond to it. Would be curious to what they say. Another great workout for you. Seems like it has been a while since I have done Turbo Barre. Now that you have mentioned it a couple of times I feel like pulling it out. I remember it being a killer barre workout.

Josie....if you want the meal plans and information on the 21d fix I can email it to you. Then you can just plan on doing your own workouts. We all made copies of the information/meal plans from the one that was purchased. Made no sense for us ladies to each buy the program. I did buy the containers on Amazon but not all of us did. You do not need them as we have the conversions...green and purple are both 1 cup, yellow 1/2 cup etc.

Hi to Valerie!!!!!

Good morning,

Can you believe that it snowed last night? Not enough to really matter but REALLY??? The high today will be 43.

Lynda, I like that Earth Day tradition at the college. I bet your DH likes it too! Our first fox terrier used to catch and kill mice, but none of the subsequent ones have shown any of that interest.

Josie, glad you are feeling better. Good idea to wait for a while to get back to the workouts. The last thing you want is a relapse while on your trip.

Judy, good for you for doing that survey. They need to know what this guy's "bedside manner" is like. I wish they would have sent me one for the Urologist I saw last year. They must know better. LOL. Glad the barre workouts are helping your hip issue. That's great.

Lori, it's great that the Ladies are sticking with this with you. Let me know how the Plyo workout is. It is the only one that I never did, you know me and anything labelled "Plyo". LOL. Keegan is ok, never did puke....he must have had something like hair or whatever stuck there. Dogs. :).

I had a conference call yesterday with the 401K people in Memphis, and another today. I need to do something with that...now that I am not an employee. Otherwise, no big plans for the day. No gardening that's for sure!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris (39:30).

Deb, it's freezing here as well. The mountain tops are covered with white again. Sheesh! They should have had Earth week last week on campus. I don't see how with these winds and temps in the 40s they will have an outdoor picnic today.

Josie, glad to hear you are feeling better. Enjoy NYC! I'm sure your DH will have a lot to talk about from his x-country trip. How is he getting back?

Lori, do you not weigh yourself? I do once a week, but that's all. Just to make sure I'm not inadvertently gaining.

Judy, I'm glad you had an opportunity to give some feedback. It's important for caregivers to know if they fall short of attentive listening and responding to a patient.

I'm back. a GREAT trip. we enjoy these impromptu ones more than the well planned out ones.

we set a bunch of mouse traps and replaced the garage door gaskets before we left and came back to no more mice. we'll never know why they decided to chew up the old gaskets when the weather is really pretty decent.

we did the 3 hour drive, then a 6.5 hour hike on Tuesday. It was so pretty out, but a tough hike since the last part was in snow. "post holing" is not a recommended technique... wed am we did another shorter hike 2-3 hours... and then mt biked nearby for a few more hours. this morning a shorter 8 mile mt bike before we packed up and left. we were alone in the campground one night, one other party the first night so quiet and pleasant. still quite a bit of snow left so spring flowers were lovely but not too many spring birds yet. saw some bluebirds though... mt bluebirds are so gorgeous they almost don't look real. the color blue against white snow is so stunning. I love the colors of spring! we will do this trip ( variations on it) several times more in the next 2 months.

My shoulder feels quite good after the cortisone and I think I will skip PT and just leave it alone for a few weeks, just doing whatever exercise comes with my regular activity.

Judy good that you can give feedback. Some people don't accurately perceive how they come across to others. maybe he'll pay attention.

Lori, I know you've been talking about a diet plan but I haven't paid much attention. is this one where the food is pre-prepared? Congrats on your probably weight loss. Nilla is so darn cute!! they know how to get a comfortable warm spot, don't they!

deb I always thought some dogs were prone to jump into icy cold water and retrieve things... like labs do...and that other breeds were not so inclined to do that. like some dogs have natural herding instincts like Max has. I always thought fox terriers liked to dig and would go after little ground critters aggressively....

dogs and cats do the same thing.... they eat grass and then they puke. I never heard a good explanation of why. Off to find you a good bluebird picture.

Good morning,

Not much going on here, it's cold and I don't want to leave the house. I think I will tackle a cleaning/organizing project. I didn't get to the basement room that I had planned on the other day, so maybe that will be it for today.

Lynda, I think all of our daffodils are going to be frozen.

Valerie, your trip sounds great. Yes, sometimes things done with less planning end up being the better ones. Those are beautiful birds! I have never seen one "live"...only pictures.

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lori,

Agility class later tonight, otherwise, I plan on staying in!

Take care,

I didn't intend on so many bluebird pics!. I thought I got one "line" of them that showed the color variation . they are so gorgeous ...almost don't look "real". they are pretty easy to watch since they're "flycatchers". they often pick a tree limb in a burned area, and fly back to it again and again as they catch bugs. pretty easy to watch once you spot one. I have a birding app on my phone& going to get an app for wildflowers soon but I think we'll be upgrading our phone and will wait for the new one. think we will go to an iphone. this one is an android and the battery seems to be losing charge faster and faster. won't last for a day if I use it for anything.
Deb, daffs bloom early and can take freezing. does not seem to hurt them. of course, you get colder than we do. but I would not worry!

we left a bunch of mouse traps in the garage while gone, and all were empty. so changing the door gasket took care of it. today we have truck service, shopping, and a small touch up on the tub that was scheduled a month ago.
Suddenly my shoulder just feels better. I'm not sure I will ever know exactly what was wrong. I can't get a MRI. the next best option is a CT arthrogram. they inject dye, then scan. However, as long as it improves I will leave well enough alone. I think even PT exercises were not helping. I'll do "normal" movements for me including poles when hiking, lifting grocery bags etc. I can do all normal home chores. ROM seems complete. it's not stiff or sore. whatever the issue has been seems to be disappearing quickly. I've decided to wait longer before doing specific shoulder exercises. I am not forgetting how paddling a kayak at the wrong time set this whole process back to square 1.

Lori ...I think clothing fit is the best indicator of fat loss. I weigh occasionally but definitely not daily. too many small variations can be misleading.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix with her bonus abs (54:00).

Deb, I think your daffodils will tolerate the cold pretty well, but I agree, this is really cold here today. Where did my spring fever go? Ted Hughes has a beautiful poem--really an elegy--titled "Daffodils," remembering the first and only spring he shared with Plath in their Devon home. They had so many daffodils that they sold them at a local florist shop. One line is really haunting: "They [the daffodils] return to forget you stooping there / Behind the rainy curtains of a dark April." Do you need to find someone to take over the management of your 401K?

Valerie, your trip sounds lovely. We have bluebirds here in the east, too, but they aren't as intensely hued I think. Those are beautiful and so bright! I didn't think PT helped me much either and might have actually exacerbated the pain at times.

Hope the weekend warms up and I can do more stuff in the gardens.

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday at lunch we did the Plyo workout and that was my only workout. My DH came back from his conference yesterday and I picked him up in the evening from the airport. Didn't get home until 9pm. Today we did the 21Day Barre. We like this one. Really different from Barre but boy you do feel the burn.

I decided to weigh myself and I have lost 4lbs. Very happy with this! I originally wanted to lose 8lbs but now I am going for 10 so I have a little wiggle room. :)

Valerie...those blue birds are beautiful. I have seen a few here and there but none as blue as those. Beautiful. Glad your shoulder is doing well. Mine have been great. Next time I will not wait so long going to the doctors.

Lynda...I weigh myself from time to time but not very often. Years ago the scale would set my mood for the day so I just decided not to weigh myself. Now a days it does not bother me at all but I have been in the habit of just judging how my close feel and this works better for me.

Deb...we have some plants that are usually blooming a little now but there is nothing in our yard at this point. We have a nice shrub at the end of our driveway which we fear we have lost due to the winter. The plyo was tough but I liked it though as it was drill based and we were all able to catch our breath for a moment in between. The ladies hated but loved it and want to do it again next week.

No plans this weekend other than yard work.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Morning...Happy Weekend!

It's only 29 degrees here now, but it's supposed to get up to 50... We'll see. I cleaned the room in the basement that has all our painting and cleaning supplies. It took almost 2 hours but it felt so good when it was done.

Valerie, glad your shoulder is better, We have Blue Jays here, but not Bluebirds. At least not in the city. I couldn't justify the price of the iPhone, so I got an LG Access, which has really been great and about 1/3 the price of the iPhone. It seems to do all the same things too.

Lynda, the daffodil poem sounds lovely. I have an assigned financial person at Vanguard that will assist in managing the money from the 401k. I rolled it over to an IRA.

Lori, great job on the weight loss! Those little containers really help in portion control, which is half the battle.

Josie, when do you leave for NY?

Judy, hope your hip is continuing to improve.

What is everyone doing this weekend?

Take care,

Lori that is so right.... about your weight setting the mood for the day. I had too many days ruined by unpleasant surprises. I let small fluctuations bother me too much.... mostly by not seeing any progress when my eating and exercise was going well. I pitched more than one scale because it varied so much.

Deb I think we're going to do some shopping, pay bills, and re-pack for another trip this week. a little longer, maybe 4 days . road bikes this time. there is an area we wanted to ride last year on the WA/ ID border. we got busy with other stuff and didn't fit it in. so the plan is to do it this next week as long as the weather forecast stays good.
I've never had an iphone but we've been so pleased with the ipad that we might do it anyway. I need to research the various models . I don't need the newest & biggest. both of us have been unhappy with our current phone. the battery doesn't hold a charge . if I actually USE the phone it drops quickly. I will see what I can get thru Verizon or thru the Verizon kiosk at Costco. usually they have some kind of "deal" but I didn't look lately.

Blue jays are not a favorite of mine . we have stellers jays, also gray jays. loud fairly aggressive birds. bluebirds are so gorgeous. it sounds silly but I have "good bird/bad bird "categories that only make sense to me.
