Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 4/16

Good evening ladies...

I did not workout this morning. Just too tired. My husband is away on business tonight so I did do a quick SB workout then the Youtube Body by Simone. I saw on VF she had a new dvd out so I ordered it plus her 1st dvd. I now have 3 and know I will enjoy them. So much for not buying more workouts. Guess it just never ends and I should just accept it!

Deb...oh that sounds terrible to have to do that test. After all this I really hope they find out what is going on so they can treat and you can move on.

Diane Sue...glad you like your tower. I do like mine and find I am using it more and more. I like using it for pull ups and tricep dips. I am looking forward to the new workouts too. Yes I think you are right about the mix and match on her older dvds. I loved the old desk top workout blender. It made creating workouts from downloads so easy. Then you could save them on your hard drive. I have quite a few I customized to my liking and still have them. The new blender you can create the workout but it is not downloadable. But you do have access to all of Cathe's workouts to mix and match. So it has advantages. Your bathroom sounds like it just moved along quickly.

Carolyn...that is how I felt this morning. Just was not feeling it. Those RWI plyo workouts are tough! If I remember they are about 30 min? I think I may try one on my jumpsport!

Judy...great job with the 1rep testing. I never did it when I did STS.

I am a huge online shopper. I am just to busy to go to a store other than for groceries.

Valerie...have a great trip!!

Good morning,

I am now "wire free" or Wireless...:)....good thing because I was ready to rip that thing off of my face...

Carolyn, I can really sympathize with your husband. I had a heart monitor once that I had at home for 24 hours, but it was not like this one.

Diane Sue, 7 hours of sleep had to be wonderful! do you use a bucket with a built in wringer when using that mop? Yes, the internet replaced catalogs....however we still get things like Orvis, and some others....but they are way smaller and only focus on seasonal items. The Penny's and Sear's catalogs were as big as phone books! Speaking of phone books, does anyone still use one? We still get one each year and each time I wonder how long they will be around.

Lori, I liked the one Body By Simone YouTube workout that I bookmarked....are the others cardio focused as well? I remember the Mix & Match option on Cathe's DVD's...I bet she was glad to not have to continue producing them that way. It seems like it would be tough to do. The Live workout for today (I think it's Upper Body Bootcamp) sounds good.

It's our agility trial this coming weekend, and today is set up day at the arena....I have Kylee entered in 2 events all 3 days...what was I thinking???

Take care,

Today I did Les Mills Pump Step, 32 minutes, 229 calories, 135 average heart rate/ 174 max. I wanted to do some strength work. maybe later. We need to go buy a mirror for the bathroom.

Deb, I am glad that you are wire free. I think a bucket with a ringer would be helpful. I used to have one. Maybe I should check on one when we are out. We still get phone books and I have tried using them occasionally but they are not as good for the yellow pages as they once were and generally there are no white pages that are delivered here. Although trying to find something by search engines is a bit irritating because it is the companies that pay money that are listed first and they are generally the over priced places.

Lori, it would be much better if the blender was downloadable. I used to have a 5 disc dvd player and would do a lot of work to mix up workouts and once I was done doing it, it would be gone. I finally gave up on that and just used one dvd at a time and found the chapters I wanted.

Today was X Train Legs. I did not realize that I have only done that one 2 times before today. I think I must have skipped over it in favor of Cardio Leg Blast. Anyway, I enjoyed it, even the dreaded floor work. The segments were just long enough that I didn't mind continuing to the end.

We don't get phone books anymore, but you can make a request if you want to receive them. I do miss looking up businesses in the Yellow Pages, but not enough to get the books.

I have been trying to find a sunscreen that I can stand to use. I have tried to pay more attention to my skincare routine the last few years but sunscreen is something that I often omit. For a long time I didn't think that African Americans needed to bother, but have changed my mind about that. I don't spend a lot of time outside but I need some sun protection. I want to find one that is not too greasy and doesn't leave a white tint on my face. Some brands irritate my face. I will continue to research the issue.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

Carolyn, I always felt that X Train legs seemed a bit lighter and easier than the cardio legs workout. I think I have chosen the cardio leg blast over it mainly because it felt harder. Probably because of the cardio, but I also if I remember correctly Cathe goes a bit heavier in the cardio leg one. I have to be so careful with sunscreens. Any of them that have the ingredient names that start with O are out. I mainly have to track ones down with zinc and titanium dioxide. I also need to watch the medium it is in. Particularly on my face and neck. We just got another motorcycle so I need to find another good one. I have even purchased sensitive skin for faces and acne ones and have not had a lot of luck. Good luck with it. At this point I rely on my Tarte Makeup and a sunscreen sample that my daughter gave me for babies that is zinc based. Everyone needs sunscreen. My grandson who is half Hispanic has darker skin and I constantly am telling him he needs sunscreen because he does outside work a lot. He burns and peels and has a tendency to have white patches that my daughter gives him creams for from her office.

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day. I was a little sore after the BBS Bounce workouts. I used 1.5# ankle weights and 2# hand weights and I am feeling it. I received the 2 new BBS workouts today so I will review tonight and tomorrow then try them out over the weekend. I want to try out Cathe's newest live one for today. It sounds good. I have not watched the video clip. Will do that after I finish up here.

Deb...glad you are wire free! When do you get the results? Yes her workouts do seem to be more cardio based with some strength thrown in. I really like here as an instructor.

Diane Sue...funny you mentioned Les Mills...my friend just asked today to borrow my Les Mills. I have never done any of the workouts. I have so many sets people have given me and I keep saying one of these days!

Carolyn...I am a huge suncreen fan. Never leave the house without it. It is just part of my morning routine. I like Paula's Choice products. I feel not only am I protecting my skin I am nourishing it also. Been using her products for years. I always felt Xtrain legs was on the light sode also. Think I only did it once. When I was doing the rotation I remember subing in another workout.

Have a good night all!

Good morning,

A busy day yesterday, meeting at the bank with financial advisor, then set up at the arena, which took a long time. We did not get home until almost 7:00 pm.

Diane Sue, did you get the mirror? I agree on the search engine...Target always comes up first and sometimes it is pretty frustrating because depending on what you are looking for...you know for sure that they don;t sell it at Target.

Carolyn, do you use regular face moisturizers? I like Cerave daytime face moisturizer...it has SPF 30 so I just use this as my sunscreen. It seems to absorb quickly and pretty well. I don't remember much about XTrain Legs.

Lori, I saw the clip of yesterdays Live workout...whew, it looks tough. All on the stability ball. Not sure when the results will be in from the test...they said maybe a week or so.

Will be at the arena most of the weekend, we are entered in 2 events, each day...This should be fun!

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Today was Pyramid Upper Body, up only premix with abs. Yesterday's X Train Legs was definitely an easier (but not easy) leg workout.

I have used the same brand of cosmetics for the last 20 years and the moisturizer has sunscreen. When my daughter (number 1) came home for Christmas she gave me an organic face serum. She gets different products through her magazine, similar to Diane Sue's daughter. I really like the serum and I decided to try the full routine for a while. If I can't decide on another sunscreen I will probably get one from that brand.

Diane Sue, that's the kind of sunscreen that I am looking for. The Tarte Tarteguard 30 is one that I have considered.

Lori, I have looked at Paula's Choice quite a bit but have not tried it. I stumbled across the brand from some reading and videos a couple of years ago.

Hi to everyone. Have a wonderful afternoon.

Good evening ladies!

I slept in today. My little Nilla kept me up most of the night. She just kept getting off the bed then would come over to my side and cry for me to pick her up. I may have mentioned how she does this from time to time. It is like she forgets to use the steps we have for her to come back up! This went on for several hours, up and down. She is soon to be 17 so we are really patient with her but man, I need my sleep!! Tonight when I came home I did one of the BBS new dvd's which was the dance cardio workout. I loved it! So much fun. She does 2 dance routines then goes in to some lower body and balance, 2 more dance routines, then arms and core.

Deb...long day! I am keeping my fingers crossed for your doggies!!! I agree that live workout looks tough! I am planning on doing it tomorrow so I will let you know exactly how tough!

Carolyn...I have been using Paula's Choice now for several years and really like what it has done for my skin. I also use Retin A and have done so now for over 10 years and this very well could be why my skin is very smooth. I recommend Retin A to everyone! Makes me sensitive to the sun so sunscreen is a must.

Have a great weekend all!

Today I did STS Total Body , 66 minutes, 291 calories. I then did the Fit Tower DVD long and lean that came with the Fit Tower, 34 minutes, 88 calories. Total calories 379, 1 hour 40 minutes. Not a great burn for such a long workout. Oddly my average heart rate for STS was 99 and for the Fit tower workout that was not intense at all 92. It makes no sense to me. It has been a busy day. I did not get out for errands though. The storms were bad and I kept getting flash flood warnings in my area on my phone. I decided to forget going to the vet and Walmart. I wanted to pick up a new supply of flea and tick stuff and the heartgard for Gertie. I will do it Monday. All of that wind , rain and thinder kept me up half the night. I spent today trying to do some mopping up the new floors and putting felt pads on the bottom of furniture legs. Now I am a bit worried about Gerties claws on the new flooring. I wish she didn't chew them till they were all jagged. We made a trip back to home depot and got Paint for the exterior of the house. We are hoping the guys can start next weekend if the rain lets up.

Lori, I love Les Mills Pump. They are workouts that I return to. I don't think anyone does well without much sleep. Poor Nilla, I am sorry she was having an off night. I have went back to using retin A. I have found it doesn't irritate and redden my skin if I put on a moisturizer and let it absorb for about 30 minutes before I apply the Retin A. My daughter bought me over some from her office.

Deb, It sounds like you have a fun weekend planned. Yes, we found a mirror. It is a pretty one with etching around the edges. I want to go find some hand towels and wash cloths. My husband has to put the back splash which will be matching floor tile. We purchased a decorative edging to go around that as well. We need to do that before we hang the mirror.

Carolyn, I used the BB foundation from Tarte during the summer because it had a high SPF and did not break my skin out. Otherwise I use the regular foundation in a tube. I haven't looked at their line for just a sunscreen. For moisturizer I am still using 100% pure products. I wish they still had the CoQ10 and A night cream. It worked really well for me. I recently purchased the matcha green tea moisturizer. I also use some Skin to Spirit moisturizer. They are a fairly new company that use natural ingredients. The moisturizers have coconut oil in them.

Good morning,

We did not qualify in either event yesterday. I thought Kylee was not really herself, then she woke me up at 2:00 am this morning vomiting. She has been doing it since then. I will probably be pulling her from the trial today, and seeing is she gets any better. If not, I'll take her to the vet.

Carolyn, that's great that you can get those products from your daughter. They sound good.

Lori, I also have looked at Paula's Choice over the years, but have not tried it. Might be time to look again.

Diane Sue, you are having the exterior done as well? Wow, that is really a lot of stuff at one time!

I may go to the trial early to see if they need any help, but want one of us to be here to see how Kylee is doing...

Take care,

Today I did Tabatacise. You would think my readings would be higher. It was 46 minutes, 362 calories with my calories burned calculator as net calories. This is what I used. It is at 7.3 on the Met scale on Cathe's Workout manager. She has a met value of 10 and way more calories. Fit Bit had me at 263 calories and when I entered it into My Fitness Pal it gave me 79 calories because it takes away 283 calories for steps when it syncs with Fit Bit. That is where it kind of makes me mad even though by the end of the day it gives all or most of the calories back. If I work really hard on steps it gives me extra. I am not sure I like letting the program monitor my overall heart rate and calorie patterns. I probably bore all of you with all of this. I did find an explanation on MFP about how this works when I click on the Fit Bit symbol. They calculate ahead of time by your patterns and goals set and it changes over the course of the day.

Deb, I am sorry the dogs did not place. Poor Kyle, I hope that stops soon. We were going to put off the painting outside , but then my husband had the guys give us a quote for the exterior and we couldn't pass up the price. They do a great job. Whoever did it before we moved in did a terrible job. It is peeling in places and they painted over hornets nests and dirt. No prep work had been done at all.

My workout today was Party Rocking Step One, which is the highly choreographed one. I did combos 1-5 and part of the finished product.

Deb, the face serum from my daughter was a one time thing. I researched the product line, then I ordered a small sample kit. So far I love it. I would never have looked at it without her gift because of the price.

Diane Sue, that's a lot of remodeling work. I would do the same with a good painting contractor. My Fitbit is starting to fall apart so I will have to replace it soon. It still works fine but is hard to charge because a piece around the charging port is loose and falls off.

Today I had to go shopping for a few items of clothing. I couldn't order because I don't know my size anymore. I have been "shopping my closet" for months, but that isn't working anymore. I was able to get a few casual wear items at a great price because of sales. It wasn't stressful because I went early.

Deb...really liked the recent Upper Body workout. It was tough but not as bad as I thought it would be. I liked using the ball as frequently as we did through out.

Carolyn, which Fit Bit do you have? I have the blaze. It just pops out of the frame and is put into a little plastic device that you close and charge via USB. I purchased a different charger from Amazon that I just sit it in without taking it out of the frame every time. That seemed like it would be better than removing it from the frame all of the time. I do have a couple of other bands that I purchased with the frame so that I could change band colors though. One is leather for more dressed up look. I got it last July though. I really like it. The calorie calculations I was talking about is something that My Fitness Pal does with devices that sync with it. Once I sync again I get back some of my calories. It sort of maps out an estimate of what you are going to do.
I keep picking up a few things. I haven't purchased a lot of clothes in the last few years. I find that I can order Calvin Klein in a size 2 and it always fits when I find something at a good price online. I sometimes find something on Amazon. That is good that you got out early to do your shopping. I am sure it made it much nicer trying things on and choosing what you want. I like the choreography n Party Rockin Step 1. I think it is not incredibly hard to learn and has some fun to it. It is a favorite step workout of mine.
